Suggested Activities P2

Bring a bottle of shampoo, a bar of soap, a bath towel, a comb and a pair of nail clippers. Ask some children to demonstrate how to use each item. Discuss the consequences of not bathing daily, not cutting one’s hair regularly, and not keeping one’s nails short and clean.

Show the children some pictures of people wearing spectacles and having rotten teeth. Talk to the children about the importance of taking good care of their eyes and teeth.

Show the children some pictures of people doing things independently. Ask the children if they are able to do things by themselves. Encourage them to do things by themselves.

Ask the children why it is important to sleep and rise early. Show a clock and talk about the right time to sleep and the right time to rise. Get the children to discuss the consequences of sleeping and rising late.

Get some children to role-play as father, mother, daughter, and son. Let the children practise proper ways of greeting people. Remind them to smile and look at the person whom they are greeting.

Get the children to name their family members. Ask them how they show their love to their family members. Suggest to the children some ways they can show their love to their family members. (Suggest using Kids’ Voice application to encourage children to record and listen to their voice for better pronunciation.)

Get the children to role-play as father, mother, daughter, and son. Let the children practise saying, ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ in different situations. (Suggest using Kids’ Voice application to encourage children to record and listen to their voice for better pronunciation.)

Discuss the importance of obeying one’s parents.

Ask the children if they help their parents at home. Encourage them to do so. Bring a broom, some clothes, and some vegetables. Get some children to demonstrate how they can help their parents (e.g. sweep the floor, fold the clothes and wash the vegetables).

Tell the children that they should not talk to nor allow strangers into their house. Advise the children what to do should a stranger get into their house (e.g. quickly inform their parents, etc.).

Ask the children, “If you see your younger sibling playing in the kitchen, what would you do?” Listen to their suggestions and advise accordingly.

Show the children some pictures of things that can cause a fire. Get the children to name those things. Discuss the dangers of playing with fire.

Get some children to demonstrate the proper way of greeting their teachers and friends. Let them practise until they are confident and fluent. Discuss the importance of greeting one’s teachers and friends.

Tell the children that they must always ask for permission from their teachers if they want to go somewhere. Explain to them that when they do so, it is for their own safety and it also means that they are showing respect to their teachers.

Discuss the importance of paying attention in class, and listening when the teacher is speaking.
