Plants There are many plants around us. Can you name the plants shown above? The flowers are beautiful. What do they do? Do you know other parts of a plant and their functions?

K.W. L .W What do I know about plants? 1. 2.

K.W. L .W What else do I want to know about plants? 1. What are the names of the common plants? 2. Do different places have different plants? 3. What will happen to the plants if their living conditions change? 4. What are the parts of a plant and their functions? 5.

Do different places have different plants? 1. Go to the garden, pond, big tree and field in your school with your teacher. 2. List the plants that you can find at these places in the table below. Garden

Pond

Big tree

Field

3. Do you see different plants at different places?

4. Can the plants in the pond live in the garden, field or on the big tree?

5. Why do you think that different places have different plants?

Plants

6. What will happen to the plants if the garden is full of rubbish, the pond dries up, the big tree is burned or the field is flooded?

7. What is your conclusion for this activity?

A habitat is the place where a living thing lives. Different plants live in different habitats. Some plants live on land, such as in the garden and in the field.

There are plants that live on other plants.

Orchid plant

Staghorn fern

Some plants live in or on the water, such as pond, lake and the sea.

Water lily plants

Watercress plants

Some plants live in the swamps. An example is the mangrove trees.

Mangrove trees

Desert is a hot and dry place. Cactus plants live in deserts.

Cactus plants

Plants need habitats that are suitable for them to live and grow healthily. What would happen to the plants if their habitats are changed? If the habitats are changed and the conditions are not suitable, the plants cannot grow well. The plants might die. We must care for the environment and keep it clean so that the plants can live and grow well.

Taking care of the environment

Let’s Think ! The conditions of a farm will change when there is no rain or when the farmer does not water the farm for a long time. Think of other ways how the conditions of the farm will change.
