Built in 1640 by Prince Orsini above the ruins of two Imperial Roman villas, La Posta Vecchia was used for centuries by the Odescalchi Princes as a residence for esteemed guests and travelers en route to Rome. Jean Paul Getty, oil tycoon, philanthropist and world renown art collector, restored La Posta Vecchia as his Italian seaside hideaway and engaged Federico Zeri to decorate it with 17th century european furniture, tapestries and paintings. The present owner acquired the residence, including all of Getty’s art and antique collection in 1980, returning La Posta Vecchia to its tradition of offering exceptional hospitality to exceptional guests. We are honored to share this tradition with you.
Costruita nel 1640 dal Principe Orsini sulle rovine di due Ville Romane dell’epoca imperiale, La Posta Vecchia fu usata per secoli dai Principi Odescalchi come residenza per i loro importanti ospiti e viaggiatori in transito per Roma. Jean Paul Getty, magnate del petrolio, filantropo e collezionista d’arte, restaurò La Posta Vecchia come suo rifugio sul mare e diede incarico a Federico Zeri per arredarla con mobili, arazzi e dipinti del 17° secolo. L’attuale proprietario acquistò la residenza, inclusa tutta la collezione di antichità di Getty, nel 1980, riportando La Posta Vecchia alla sua tradizione di offrire ospitalità eccezionale ad eccezionali Ospiti.
