By News Staff Red River Valley area farmland prices have skyrocketed to new all time highs this spring, says Hometown Real Estate Broker Ray Shaw. “Four thousand dollars per acre appears to be the current established price for the better Red River Valley soil types, but we have had reports of sales as high as $5,000 per acre,” says the Morris based realtor. “It looks like $4,000 per acre will be surpassed this spring and summer as the going price.” Mr. Shaw attributes the surge in price for farmland to a new wave of international investment interest, but he notes farmland in the Morris area has been turning at the $4000 level with the expansion of locally owned farm operations. The higher prices are convincing many middle age farmers to consider early retirement or pursue other interests. “We have had inquiries for large acreage purchases in excess of 10,000 acres and more,” says Mr. Shaw.
