Welcome to the Penguin and DK International Education catalogue. At Penguin and DK, we are proud to publish a broad range of titles including top literary prize winners, classics, reference titles and children’s books to cater for all ages and tastes. For many children in the English speaking world our titles play a significant role in the educational journey from first words through to fluent reading for pleasure. Our imprints reflect this journey – beginning with Ladybird Key Words and leading through to Read it Yourself and DK Readers. Under the Puffin banner, this journey continues from much-loved picture books such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar right through to Puffin Classics for more confident readers. Schools, libraries and homes everywhere are filled with our world renowned Penguin Classics and DK Reference series. Learning is at the heart of what we do but we like to make learning fun – be it Carol Vorderman’s Maths and Science titles or the mischief and mayhem of Roald Dahl’s world. This catalogue is just a short introduction to our total list. There are links to online teacher resources and lesson plans that you can download and print out. Visit the online interactive pdf version of the catalogue at [insert domain hyperlink] and click through to more information. If you’d like to know more about what we do, please get in touch with your regional sales representative (there’s a contacts list inside the back cover of this catalogue). We’d also love you to become part of our online community. Do join us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/PenguinBooksInternational Meanwhile, happy reading.

What are ‘key words’? ‘Key words’ are the most frequently occurring words in the English language. Research has shown that very few of these key English words form a very high proportion of those used every day in speech, reading and writing.

George Orwell
new
George Orwell’s brilliant reporting and political conscience formed an impassioned picture of his life and times. Orwell was born in India and educated at Eton. He served with the Indian Imperial Police in Burma from 1922 to 1927 and in the 1930s he fought in the Spanish Civil War. In books such as Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four Orwell illustrated the political excesses of the twentieth Century. His books should be a feature of every modern classroom because Orwell continues to tell us the truth about the world we live in.

The Great Orwell Series
26
Politics and the English Language is George Orwell’s manifesto on the way we should communicate. This short essay is essential reading for any student who strives for clarity in their own writing. The pamphlet has been published along with new editions of four of Orwell’s books, making the Great Orwell series a beautifully designed and comprehensive introduction to one of the finest writers of the twentieth century.

You always, I notice, feel the same when you are under heavy fire – not so much afraid of being hit as afraid because you don’t know where you will be hit. You are wondering all the while just where the bullet will nip you, and it gives your whole body a most unpleasant sensitiveness. Homage to Catalonia, George Orwell
