Catholic Identity The religious character of PC is what sets us apart from other schools in the Hampton Roads area. Christ is the core of who we are. Each gospel value given to us by the Church is the lens through which we teach every subject. We are blessed to have a Priest Chaplain who celebrates the sacraments weekly with our community. This, along with dynamic retreat and service programs, encourages Christcentered values in the classroom, on the field, and in the many activities offered to our students.

1:1 Technology Initiative Every student in grades 8-10 received a Chromebook computer at the beginning of the 2013 school year. These devices enrich the classroom environment and are the gateway to Google Apps for Education. Google Apps support all curriculum, placing thousands of web tools at our students’ fingertips. The new system is completely cloud-based through Google, and individual users have access to all documents anytime and from anyplace that has internet access.

PC students’ AP & SAT scores are above the local and national average. Alexandria Ruble ‘06 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill doctoral student and Fulbright Scholar currently in Berlin, Germany conducting field work for her dissertation: “Equal But Not the Same: Debates and Policies on Gender Equality in East and West Germany, 1945-1965.” “It was through personalized instruction in my German classes, coupled with the vigorous AP program at PC, that fully prepared me for the transition to college. AP credits allowed me to skip several introductory history and mathematics courses at CNU and move directly into advanced seminars related to my major. Having been the former president of the German Club at PC, I had the confidence to enroll in my first study abroad experience. The Undergraduate Research Council, the CNU Honors Program, PC faculty and staff members funded a semester in Prague, which served as a gateway to my international academic and professional careers.” 7

“I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do. -John 13:15

Engaged Families At PC, we partner with families who support our programs through varied volunteering and fundraising opportunities. Family engagement is a prerequisite for helping students achieve goals.

DeLevay Miner, PC Parent and Substitute Teacher As a military family new to the area, my husband and I were eager to find a school for our daughter where the transition would be smooth and she would be challenged academically. This is exactly what we found at PC. The enrollment process was easy and not only were faculty and staff members helpful in the transition, but the students accepted my daughter. She felt welcomed and comfortable. And that, I came to realize, is the culture at PC: warm and inclusive.

PC Parents, William Burke, School Advisory Board Member, and Carol Burke, President of the Home and School Association We are strong supporters of Catholic education. At PC, our 10th grader has developed academically, socially and spiritually. Being members of the Advisory Board and Home and School, we know the program is tailored to meet students at every stage of development to ensure they are aware of and included in the multiple opportunities at PC.

PC has recruited exceptional educators and professionals to serve our students and their families. The faculty at PC develops successful learning and educational pathways to meet the diverse interests and needs of students of all backgrounds. In 2013, The Catholic Diocese of Richmond enthusiastically approved a project presented by the School Advisory Board to construct new athletic fields and a state-of-the-art theater and fine arts wing. The project is underway with the completion of a new soccer field. During phase II, ground will be broken for PC’s new baseball and softball fields and tennis courts. Phase III will include a wrestling room and during the final phase a theater and fine arts wing will be constructed.

Supportive Leadership Peninsula Catholic is not a typical high school; it is a community rooted in faith and dedicated to service. As chairman of the School Advisory Board, I can assure you that the Board’s actions are in keeping with the morals and values long associated with Catholic education. The Board’s primary focus is to collectively assist the school’s leadership in developing strategic opportunities where we can advance the quality of our facilities and instructional capabilities. In executing that focus, we realize a dedicated purpose to our mission, which is to maintain Peninsula Catholic’s reputation as a premier institution. However, institutions are not static; they evolve and grow. Therefore we must continue to advance our school in ways that will give our students the chance to excel in areas beyond their imagination. I encourage everyone to find a way to participate and contribute to this worthy mission because it will take full participation from our community to implement the many opportunities that are certain to advance our institution. Together, we are on the move!

Michael King School Advisory Board Chairman and Parent The tradition of excellence that students at PC enjoy is not due to any one person. Indeed, it is a team effort and every member of that team keeps our mission ever at the forefront. As principal, I am blessed to collaborate with a visionary School Advisory Board, a talented faculty, and a dedicated staff. Together, we foster an environment that will shape our students to be their best selves, preparing them not only for college but for the many challenges and opportunities that will come their way after graduation.
