rant world. Despite a few scandals (an affair with the wife of a restaurateur he worked for definitely created a bump in the road to success), Ramsay’s work spoke for itself. By 1998, he had opened his own restaurant, and by 2001, he had become the first Scot to be awarded three Michelin stars. As his business interests expanded, so too did his empire. Soon he was opening restaurants all over Europe and, eventually, in America as well. Meanwhile, his culinary and business skills — as well as his unpredictable personality — had already earned him some television time in the U.K. with the kitchen documentaries “Boiling Point” (1999) and “Beyond Boiling Point” (2000), as well as a BAFTA-winning episode of “Faking It” in 2001. But it wasn’t until 2004 that Ramsay’s television career really took off. Gordon Ramsay and Meson De Mesilla Hotel owner Cali Szczawinski as seen in “Hotel Hell.”
In 2007, hoping to capitalize further on America’s love affair with the belligerent chef, Fox also produced a U.S. version of “Kitchen Nightmares.” After seven successful seasons, the series was laid to rest last spring, but that doesn’t mean the chef’s presence on the network has diminished. In fact, Ramsay has expanded his horizons with the network. In 2010, he signed on as both producer and judge on Fox’s U.S. version of “MasterChef,” a show that’s seen five seasons and is still going strong. Add that to a handful of British series Ramsay has developed and starred in on the side, and you’ve got one uber-busy chef. The latest collaboration between Ramsay and Fox, “Hotel Hell,” was announced in 2012, and so far Fox has no regrets. Audiences love the dynamic of Ramsay’s sharp tongue and heavy-handed approach to helping people make a go of their businesses. As the sassy chef travels the country, he leaves an indelible mark — and hopefully more successful businesses — in his wake. Catch a new episode of this dynamic series as “Hotel Hell” airs Monday, Aug. 18, on Fox.

hollywood q&a By Adam Thomlison TV Media

Q: I would like to know about a program that aired maybe in 1958. It was about a woman held captive in her home by a man who had escaped from prison. I can remember watching it at nine years old, scared out of my wits. Did Kraft have any programs on at the time? My neighbor thinks the title was “Rain in the Morning.” Can you help us? A: To be honest, I’m not sure I can help you. This is a tough one, partly because there were literally dozens of dramatic anthology series on around the time you specify, and partly because escaped prisoners and women held captive were well-used devices in such shows, which were heavily influenced by the pulp-novel thrillers that preceded them. Despite this, no single episode I could find quite matched your description. The closest thing that aired on “Kraft Television Theatre,” one such anthology series, was an episode called “The EightySeventh Precinct.” It aired in 1958 and did feature a woman held captive in a home invasion, but the action seems to have focused more on the titular police station that she called repeatedly for help, but didn’t take her seriously until it was too late. Another candidate is an episode of “General Electric Theater” called “Somebody Please Help Me,” again about a woman taken captive by an intruder. The only thing that disqualifies this one is that it aired in 1962 (which means you would have been watching it at the much less impressionable age of 13). Another possible episode of “General Electric Theater” was called “Disaster.” It aired in 1959 and did feature an escapee breaking in to a woman’s home, but that seems to have been a sort of side point — the larger plot was about the natural disaster that they were both hiding in the house to escape. It should be noted — with apologies to your friend — that “Rain in the Morning” was something else entirely. It was the title of an episode of the anthology “Matinee Theater,” but it was a much lighter affair, about a husband who tries to coach his wife on being more assertive before his boss comes for dinner.
Back in “Dallas”: An old flame is heading back to Dallas. TNT’s revival of “Dallas” has been on a mid-season hiatus, but the third season returns to the small screen the evening of Monday, Aug. 18. All the backstabbing, manipulating and romance will be back on TV, and a romantic partner from the original series will be reappearing in the Ewing family’s lives. Fans of the original series should remember Tracey McKay, Bobby Ewing’s (Patrick Duffy, “The Bold and the Beautiful”) girlfriend and the daughter of the Ewing family’s bitter enemy. The younger Tracey was played by Beth Toussaint (“Savannah,” “The Young and the Restless”), and this time around she’ll be played by the beautiful Melinda Clarke. Clarke’s a bit of a TV darling, and she’ll be a welcome addition to the cast of the iconic “Dallas,” even if it isn’t as a major character. She got her start in “Days of Our Lives” back in the late 1980s, but is probably best known for her roles as Julie Cooper in “The O.C.” and as Amanda in “Nikita.” She’s also had smaller roles in “Entourage,” “The Vampire
Q: Will “Nashville” return this fall? A: “Nashville” will indeed return, after quite a bit of traveling. When most shows “go away,” it’s just from the TV schedule. But this summer, the stars of “Nashville” went away from it all and hit the road, doing a concert tour to perform music from the show, and to promote the upcoming third season, of course, which premieres Wednesday, Sept. 24, on ABC. They’re back now, but “back” for Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere and the other stars of the series doesn’t mean L.A. or even New York. The ABC musical drama, about would-be country stars trying to make it in the country music capital, films on location in Nashville. That fact adds authenticity to the series (and inspiration to the writers, who reportedly lived there during the writing process as well), but it also adds to the city’s economy. Filming got under way just a few weeks ago. “Nashville” is where Britton landed after the end of her previous southern-set hit, “Friday Night Lights,” and where Panettiere finally found a home again after making a splash on the sci-fi series “Heroes.”

Diaries,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “Vegas.” It probably shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that, after being absent from Bobby Ewing’s life for so many years, Tracy is headed back into it. Earlier in season 3, her son Hunter (Fran Kranz, “The Cabin in the Woods,” 2012) showed up on the scene. She’ll join a cast that includes Duffy, Jordana Brewster
Jess sets her sights on a cute guy, though, she’ll be reminded that the competition in the dating world can be mighty fierce. Jessica Biel has signed on to guest star in an episode of “New Girl,” taking on the role of Kat — “the hottest scientist in the world” — who competes with Jess for the attention of a cutie at a wedding. Although she’s a big-ticket movie star these days, Biel is definitely no stranger to TV.
