Chef’s Choice Four Local Restaurants - (Chefs of the Emerald Coast) Coordinator: Jess Parnell

Exceptional Lakes of 30A Instructor: Brandy Foley

Enjoy lunch at one the most famous restaurants on 30A while discovering a global phenomenon: coastal dune lakes. Dune lake formations are only found in a handful of locations around the world, and Northwest Florida is one such cluster. There are 15 dune lakes along the 30A corridor, which are both unique to this area and distinct from each other. Many of the coastal dune lakes have an outlet that connects the freshwater lakes to the Gulf of Mexico, creating a mix of fresh and saltwater. The intermittent outlet connection creates dynamic water conditions within the lakes and allows for a diverse range of plants, animals and ecosystems. The group will take a short walk to observe and learn about a local coastal dune lake and its wildlife. After, lunch is “on your own”. For more information, please visit www.theredbar.com. Please meet in front of the Red Bar at 10:00 a.m. February 27 Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The Red Bar Restaurant, 70 Hotz Ave., Grayton Beach Fee: $10.00 CRN#: 40146

NEW The Two Koreas – Unite or Ignite? Instructor: Doug Bacon

The United States of America is in another civil war. Not a civil war with violent hostilities over the issue of slavery, but an ideological civil war between the principles upon which the Founding Fathers based our Constitution and the Progressive Movement. The battle is being played out in our national politics, in our schools, in the media, and in our daily lives. So, what is going on? Why is there so much contention, anger, hatred, and civil discord? Let’s get to the bottom of it. We will look at the history and principles upon which our Constitution is based, the history and principles of the Progressive Movement, and how their differences are playing out in this civil war of ideologies today.

Ever since the Korean peninsula was divided into the Republic of Korea and the deceptively named Democratic Peoples’ Republic of Korea, dreamers on both sides of the demilitarized military zone have wished for the two countries to become one. The north has aggressively pushed for such an accomplishment, but its chosen processes led to a devastating war from which only the south has fully recovered and subsequently prospered. North Korea has continuously provoked South Korea through assassinations, limited military attacks, infiltration, and threats. Now we see hugs and embraces between the leaders of both nations with media headlines proclaiming a new era of cooperation. Hmmm. Two profusely illustrated sessions will explore the factors, possibilities, probabilities and expectations surrounding this difficult and elusive goal.
