This fall, Penn Presbyterian will break ground on the new Penn Center for Specialty Care building to be located at 3737 Market Street. The Specialty Care building represents the expansion of PPMC services, while simultaneously serving to revitalize the 38th Street community. The structure will impact the streetscape at the 38th Street and Market Street crossroads, giving Penn Medicine a welcoming and modern facility with a face on Market Street. This building will serve as both a modern clinic for outpatient services, as well as an ambulatory surgical center, capable of handling today’s outpatient surgical cases. Construction is slated to begin in the fall of 2012 and occupancy is anticipated in July 2014 to meet the system demand for housing the Penn Musculoskeletal Program and elevating the outpatient care level of Penn Presbyterian.

The Specialty Care building is an 11-story business complex with an initial Penn Medicine footprint of approximately 153,000 square feet (equivalent to seven stories). Constructed as a state of the art outpatient clinic and surgical center, the building will house nearly three floors of exam rooms, six outpatient operating rooms, the Penn Musculoskeletal faculty offices, an outpatient radiology center, and all of the support systems required for both the patients and staff. The project will be anchored by the expansion of the Penn Musculoskeletal Institute and Penn Presbyterian Surgical Practice. Good Shepherd Penn Partners will also occupy a floor and a half in the building.

Keep Your Skin Safe This Summer Here’s our fifth and final tip in the Presby Bulletin’s summer skincare series.
{
Tip #5 Stay shady: Staying in the shade will not only keep you cooler, it will reduce your risk of skin cancer. Keep in mind that even though you are in the shade, you will need to wear sunscreen.
Annual Housing Fair:
September 19, 2012 Penn Home Ownership Services invites you to attend the 2012 Annual Housing Fair on Wednesday, September 19, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. in Hall of Flags, Houston Hall. This is an opportunity for all attendees to discuss with industry experts the national real estate market and its implications for Philadelphia, plus gain access to a wide array of housing-related information and resources for West Philadelphia and the wider community. Representatives from Penn Home Ownership Services as well as its banking partners will be on hand to discuss the Enhanced Forgivable Loan Program and the Closing Cost Reduction Program, which are available to full-time employees of the University and Health System.
Breaking New Ground (continued from front)
In addition to the new building and expansion project, PPMC is currently working on several other renovation projects to upgrade existing facilities and offer an improved patient experience. Practice spaces in the Scheie Eye Institute are currently undergoing an $8 million renovation, which will feature upgrades to existing infrastructure and amenities. Additionally, as part of a renovation effort scheduled to be complete at the end of FY13, noise reducing strategies are being added to 3East. Project managers are working to compare noise levels, and are considering implementing sound deadening systems. The unit will also receive new furniture, as well as a “face lift” to the floors, ceiling and counters. Continuing its efforts to make facilities more patient-focused, in the last fiscal year Penn Presbyterian completed a full renovation and refurbishment of the Skilled Nursing Facility, and a new Interventional Radiology room and recovery suite.
