Annual Holiday Toy Drive It’s Not Too Late to be Someone’s Christmas Miracle Over the past four years, Presby employees have granted the holiday wishes of more 500+ children by giving gifts to children currently housed in the People’s Emergency Center. We are so proud of our accomplishments and hope to keep the spirit of giving alive this year. If you’re interested in adopting a child and fulfilling their holiday wish, please contact Kim Hibbs at kimberly.hibbs@ uphs.upenn.edu or 215.662.9104 right away – the toy drive ends on Monday, December 15. In addition to selecting a specific child to donate gifts to, the PEC also welcomes donated generic items like dolls, board games, sports equipment and creative activities such as coloring sets. Gift cards and toiletry items for both Mom and children are always welcome as well. All items should be unwrapped. As always, thank you for your generosity.

Ebola Preparedness at Penn Medicine As you know, preparations for the possibility of caring for a patient with Ebola have been underway for several months at HUP. We were among the first in the nation to offer our special expertise in this global public health crisis. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently announced that HUP is part of an elite group of 35 hospitals nationwide – and the only adult hospital in Pennsylvania – capable of safely caring for patients with Ebola. As always, we encourage all staff to continue to check for updates at http:// pennpoint.uphs.upenn.edu/sites/ebola/ default.aspx. As a reminder, two phone lines are available to assist clinicians and staff around the clock: *Clinicians with patient-related questions should call 215.614.0524. A physician will answer and handle calls about screening, isolation and, if necessary, lead arrangements for patient transport to HUP from another entity.
Please note: Not all HIM functions will move. The release of information (medical record requests) will remain in each hospital. The Medical Record scanning functions of all three hospitals have already moved to a centralized location at PPMC (Myrin basement, room M06). HIM and clinical documentation improvement teams have developed documentation tips to help providers capture the patient’s acuity with precise and complete documentation. Provider documentation drives everything in our organization, from publicly available quality of care scores to appropriate coding and reimbursement. Tips can be found at: http://uphsxnet.uphs.upenn.edu/ceqi/ medrecordspage.html In the event that you need assistance or have a question, please call Lana Brunkel at 215.439.5338.
Annual Penn Youth Baseball Camps Youth baseball camps are held at the University of Pennsylvania in our state-ofthe-art bubble for player’s ages 7-13. These camps are a fun and instructional way for children to improve their game in the off-season. This year the camps will take place on Saturday January 3 and Sunday January 4. Penn and Penn Medicine employees, faculty and staff receive a 20% discount off of any camp they sign their child or children up for. Visit pennbaseballcamp.com for more information.
