PRESBYbulletin Penn Presbyterian Medical Center

PPMC’S ALL-STAR 2015 started off with a bang – new buildings, new teams, new faces, and new experiences! PPMC would like to thank the entire staff for being hospital heroes. As a salute to our SUPERSTARS, earlier this month, faculty and staff came together for a celebration all of all the recent transition accomplishments and the amazing teamwork and patient care carried out every day.

March is National Social Work Month

CELEBRATION Throughout March, social workers are celebrating National Social Work Month. The national theme, “Social Work Paves the Way for Change,” was selected to convey the efforts social workers have dedicated to bring about positive changes in society and for individuals. Social workers make a difference in the day-to-day lives of millions of Americans by helping to build, support and empower positive family and community relationships. Our own social workers help patients navigate their paths to recovery. National Social Work Month is an opportunity to educate the public about how social workers have brought about major positive social changes, improved the lives of individuals and families, and will continue to do so in the future. We pause this month to recognize Penn Presbyterian’s own Social workers and express our continued gratitude for their support and dedication to our patients all year long.

Heartfelt Thanks A letter from a grateful patient – and Penn employee – to Michele Volpe, executive director of PPMC: Dear Ms. Volpe, From the minute I entered the Penn Presbyterian ER … and throughout the following eight nights I spent on the third floor of the Cupp building, I received care that was beyond exemplary and compassionate. While each and every person who entered my room during this time – from those who cleaned and delivered food, straight through to the nurses and doctors – went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed, I wanted to make special mention of the following individuals:

Apollo Alinea, RN

M. Bradley Falk, MD

Susan Hamrick, RN

Douglas Jacoby, MD

Christina Koutsoubos, NA

Neil Levin, MD

Lisa Long, CRNP

William Matthai, Jr., MD

Tashana Murrell, NA

Linda Petrella, RN

Delmar Shields, NA While no one wants to be in a situation where hospital care is necessary, it is times like these when being part of the Penn family is indeed a privilege. I count myself incredibly lucky to not only work for this amazing institution but to have been placed under the care of such smart, emotionally generous and talented people during my stay. For this I remain truly and deeply grateful.
