WELLfocused PROGRAM: WHAT’S NEW THIS YEAR*? Spring is in the air, and with it comes a chance to have a fresh start on improving your health and well-being all while earning rewards with the Wellfocused program. The Wellfocused new program year launched this week with a fresh, new, energetic look along with a new three-tiered program structure. The program allows UPHS employees to receive rewards for participating in the many different health related activities, improving, or maintaining good health. For each activity or action you complete, like tracking healthy eating habits, starting an exercise routine and managing your stress, you earn points that allow you to move through the levels and earn rewards. Read more about the new structure in the next issue of System News.
Get a Biometric Screening to Know Your Numbers The first step of the Wellfocused program is to receive your biometric screening so that you Know Your Numbers. A biometric screening provides you with a snapshot of your current health status, which enables you to identify areas of focus when creating your goals. Your biometric screening numbers are kept confidential and will be uploaded to your Well-Being Assessment by a third-party administrator. UPHS will never have access to your screening results. Onsite screenings will be available at PPMC: • May 24: 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. • May 25: 6:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. • May 26: 6:00a.m. - 2:00p.m. You can schedule a biometric screening online at http://adurolife.com/uphs-biometric-scheduler.

PPMC Looks Back, On Friday, March 18, more than 340 of Penn Presbyterian’s friends, staff and supporters joined in an evening of celebration at the hospital’s 15th annual fundraiser. In recognition of this milestone year, the theme of the 2016 Gala was the World’s Fair, where attendees spent the evening “Looking Back, Looking Forward,” through a celebration of innovation and advances in Cardiovascular Medicine and Surgery, which have had unprecedented and extraordinary impact on the lives of patients and their families in fundamental and groundbreaking ways. The event was also an opportunity to honor the recipients of the 2016 Hospital Hero Award: Harvey Waxman, MD, William Vernick, MD, Wilson Szeto, MD, Jack Gutsche, MD and Mike Golden, MD. Upon arrival, guests were surrounded by sights and sounds of the World’s Fair, including jazz dancers, hot air balloon centerpieces, and model biplanes and Zeppelins suspended from the ceiling. Proceeds from the event, which was filled with music from the early 1900s playing on two photographs, will contribute toward the future work of Penn Heart and Vascular at PPMC. As in years past, the evening included a robust silent auction – including tickets to Adele’s Philadelphia concert and the ever popular chance to create and name your own sandwich in Presby’s Atwood Cafeteria – that helped in raising more than $106,000. A new “Fund the Cause” silent auction item gave participants the opportunity to commit any amount towards an upcoming health fair for the West Philadelphia community. More than half the cost of the health fair was donated, and organizers look forward to fully funding a similar program next year. Also contributing to the funds raised was the sale of the flashing “Big Heart, Big Idea” pins, which were a fun way for attendees show their support of Penn Heart and Vascular at PPMC, the department’s accomplishments and bright future filled with further innovation and advancement. Thanks to the dedicated staff and generous friends of Penn Presbyterian, the 15th annual fundraiser, Looking Back, Looking Forward, was an astounding success. See the Presby Bulletin online for more photos from the event.
