Human Rights Campaign Recognizes PPMC as a Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality For the third year in a row, four Penn Medicine hospitals have been recognized as “Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization.

HOSPITAL WEEK BBQ Earlier this month, PPMC celebrated National Hospital Week – the nation’s largest healthcare event – by hosting a BBQ in appreciation of all PPMC employees who work tirelessly to serving people entrusted to their care. National Hospital Week celebrates hospitals and the women and men who support the health and wellbeing of their communities through dedication and compassionate care from the heart. It is an opportunity for PPMC to recognize and thank all of the dedicated individuals – physicians, nurses, therapists, engineers, food service workers, volunteers, administrators and so many more – for their contributions.

The findings were part of HRC Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index 2016, a unique annual survey that encourages equal care for LGBT Americans by evaluating inclusive policies and practices related to LGBT patients, visitors and employees. Penn hospitals earned top marks in meeting non-discrimination and training criteria that demonstrate its commitment to equitable, inclusive care for LGBT patients, and their families. Penn was among a select group of 496 healthcare facilities nationwide to be named Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality. Full release: http://www.uphs.upenn.edu/news/ News_Releases/2016/05/lgbt/

PENN MEDICINE’S FIRST ANNUAL HEALTH CARE RISK MANAGEMENT WEEK KICKS OFF IN JUNE Penn Medicine’s Risk Management Department is excited to announce that for the first time, it will be celebrating Healthcare Risk Management Week from June 13-24, 2016. Due to the large size of the organization, the event is planned to extend over two weeks. This annual campaign initiated by the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management raises awareness of the critical role healthcare risk managers play in promoting patient safety, quality improvement, safe care practices, and safe work environments while identifying, reducing, and managing areas of professional liability risk exposure. At the University of Pennsylvania Health System, collaboration from everyone is needed to drive safe and trusted healthcare. The theme of this year’s HRM Week, “Everyone’s a Risk Manager,” recognizes the responsibilities that all UPHS employees have in the critical area of risk management. A comprehensive, organizationwide framework for risk management includes the participation of all employees – from dietary, to transport, to clinical and beyond. Risk Management understands the important role each employee plays in reducing risk. We hope that through events such as HRM Week, we can continue to foster and strengthen these working relationships. A session in celebration of HRM Week will be held on June 15th from 11am-2pm at PPMC, Philadelphia Heart Institute, 1st floor, room 106.

Introducing: The Renaissance Leave your leftovers at home and head to the Atwood Café for a new menu item: The Renaissance. Named for Renaissance Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center – who won the right to create and name their own sandwich as part of the silent auction at the annual PPMC fundraiser earlier this year – the sandwich is a chicken salad club: chicken salad, crispy bacon, lettuce and tomato, on a flaky croissant. Served with fresh fruit on the side, The Renaissance will be available on the third Wednesday of each month for the next year.

Paint Nite Fundraiser Contributes More than $700 to Team Presby PPMC put the “fun” in fundraising when earlier this month it hosted a Paint Nite in the Atwood Cafeteria. More than 45 people participated in the evening, which raised $700 for the American Heart Association, “Philly Heart Walk 2016.” Many thanks to Team Presby Co-Chair Kimberly Hibbs for organizing the event!
