Cultural Diversity Committee Announces Culinary Competition Winners The Cultural Diversity Committee hosted its International Food Tasting and Culinary Competition on May 5. At this year’s event, staff had the opportunity to show off their culinary talents by creating either an international or regional dish for entry in the culinary competition. Of the 17 entries, our panel of judges chose these winners: FIRST PLACE:

Kristine Chestnut, Behavioral Health Services, 4 Wright Saunders

Key Lime Pie (Origin: Key West Florida)

SECOND PLACE: Colleen Bynum, Neurodiagnostic Lab, 4 Wright Saunders

2015 PHOS Housing Fair Returns to Penn Presbyterian Penn Medicine faculty and staff are invited to the Spring 2015 Housing Fair on Wednesday, June 3, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, W-186, located at 51 N. 39th Street. Hosted by Penn Home Ownership Services (PHOS), the Fair is a convenient one-stop resource to learn more about the current real estate market and its implications for Philadelphia and the wider community. Representatives from PHOS, its lending partners and other exhibitors will be on premises to address any questions you have about the Forgivable Loan and the Closing Cost Reduction Programs. Additionally, this popular event is an opportunity to hear information about the new boundaries that recently went into effect, providing qualified employees with a wider range of residential housing options in the neighboring communities. These programs are available to full time employees of the University and Health System. Admission to the event is free. “JUST CULTURE” CHALLENGE On May 22, the PPMC Patient Safety Committee kicked off a “Just Culture” challenge. Each week, a new scenario will be presented you decide what response fits best in a “JUST CULTURE.” “Just Culture” is a supportive model of shared responsibility for ensuring safety. Staff are accountable for reporting unsafe conditions and events, following procedures and policies, and avoiding unjustifiable risk. The organization is accountable for creating safe processes and systems, making sure staff members have the skills and tools they need to work safely, and keeping the organization financially viable.

Steps to Win:

Three lucky random winners will be selected for a different prize each week. Stay tuned to your email each week for the new scenario and information on how to enter for a chance to win. Winners will be announced each week. Thanks for taking the challenge! Good Luck!

Everyone in the health care plays a role in delivering safe care. By uniting together and sharing that common goal, we can all make a difference in patient safety.

John Beecroft and Aleta Fisher from Addiction Services who volunteered time earlier this month to teach local kids about the dangers of drug addiction, and practice saying “no” to drugs. The session was part of the annual uGo series, an eight-week program run twice each year by the People’s Emergency Center that features activities that promote healthy lifestyles and community connectivity. Each week, PPMC volunteers will be on-site to lead information sessions and programs for local residents.
