Message to the People... Erma Johnson Hadley and Sybil C. Mobley Two of our brightest Always impeccably dressed, accented by a beautiful smile, Erma Johnson Hadley exuded, confidence, professionalism, and love for her community and students. She was a true educator, someone who chose the profession because of her love for teaching and ensuring a quality education for all. At a time when some educators are walking away because they spend more time being disciplinarians than teaching, and others are looking for a steady income instead of a way to build a better world, she dedicated her life to her profession. Dr. Johnson Hadley also surrounded herself around skilled professionals who didn’t make excuses when it came to educating our children. Whether she was in her capacity as Chancellor for Tarrant County College District or serving on the Board of Trustees for Paul Quinn College, she was always passionate and focused. This is the week we lost two great educators - Dr. Johnson Hadley and Dr. Sybil C. Mobley. When you think of great educators, these two women should be among those you remember. Dr. Mobley was the dean emeritus of the School of Business and Industry at Florida A&M University, where she built a powerhouse and had produced some of the best business men and women, entrepreneurs and educators in the world. As a freshman I watched with admiration the young students who proudly entered SBI and later graduated with distinction. That school created leaders and taught excellence and a standard that the students proudly displayed wherever they went. The mother of one of my sorority sisters and a proud member of sister sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Dr. Mobley visited Dallas in the 1980s. It was a wonderful moment for us as we enjoyed some of her time. We were honored because she was in high demand, but FAMU was important to her and many of her former students were part of the alumni chapter here. There will be two memorial ceremonies celebrating the life of Dr. Mobley, who died Tuesday. She was 89. There will be a memorial celebration from 4-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Lee Hall Auditorium at Florida A&M University. The Celebration of Life will be noon Friday, Oct. 9, at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 224 Martin Luther King Blvd. Tallahassee, Fl Join the many who will be making to the FAMU School of Business and Industry, at: http://www.famu.edu/ index.cfm?a=sbi.

Saluting Hispanic Americans By Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson As a nation, one of our greatest strengths is our diversity. We have among our population almost every ethnic heritage found on the face of the earth. This one fact alone makes us exceptional. You will not find the American mosaic, with its rich diversity, in any other country in the entire world. Each year, we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month between September 15th and October 15th. In doing so, we place an emphasis on the contributions made by HispanicAmericans. There are 55 million Hispanics in this country and they make up 17 percent of our population. They are the fastest growing minority group in America. We began celebrating Hispanic Americans in 1968, when President Lyndon Baines Johnson started Hispanic Heritage Week. Twenty years later, President Ronald Reagan expanded the observance by adding an additional three weeks. Hispanic-Americans have enriched the soul of America. They have made significant contributions to our national character by improving our business communities, every level of government, our military, our justice system, our universities and colleges, our healthcare system, our entertainment industry, our religious institutions, our agricultural system, and so much more.
During National Hispanic Heritage Month and throughout the year, I urge each of you to explore the history of your HispanicAmerican neighbors, colleagues, and friends. In doing so, you will better appreciate their courage, sacrifice, and tenacity. Our country is a better place because of their presence, their industriousness, and their ingenuity. In my life as an elected official, I have worked closely with countless Hispanic-Americans, including Trinidad “Trini” Garza who worked tirelessly to transform the educational system in Dallas; Francisco “Pancho” Medrano, Sr., was a giant during the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement. He was a prudent political advisor and supporter when I first won a seat in the Texas Legislature. At his insistence, I also ran for a senior post in the Texas State Convention shortly after being elected to my seat in the Texas House of Representatives. During the Convention, I was nominated in English and in Spanish by Mr. Medrano and his allies. I won the seat to the surprise of nearly everyone in the Convention. Icons like Pancho Medrano transformed the landscape of Texas and national politics. We owe a huge debt of gratitude for the sacrifice of these and many others who lived their
lives committed to improving our society for all people. When I proposed legislation in the Texas House to provide free meals to children from low-income families, my principle ally in the effort was Representative Carlos Truan who represented a district in Corpus Christi. Together, we worked on legislation that resulted in the state providing free breakfast to lowincome students in public schools across Texas. Throughout my tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, I’ve worked with Hispanic-Americans who are dedicated to providing exemplary public service to District 30 constituents. My District Director, Esperanza Worley, has served in my Congressional Office for 23 years and has been a zealous advocate for and provider of constituent services. As a member of Congress, I have had similar experiences while working with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on policies that assist low-income families, working individuals, the elderly and disabled members of our population. During this month, we should all salute the bountiful contributions that Hispanic-Americans have made and continue to make to our nation. They are an essential part of what makes our country great, and I am always honored to recognize their impactful legacy.

Punk’d by the Pope? gotten, as my grandmother used to say, “Beside herself.” Americans have rehearsed and regurgitated that rhetoric about being “Exceptional” for so long,
headed social positions. He did not spare the Democrats, but the GOP fared far worse. What made Pope Francis so endearing was his constant request for us to pray for him. He did it in such an earnest and impaled voice; over and over. He asked us to pray that he would have the strength to help others. Symbolically, I believe he implied that we need to humble ourselves, pray for one another and pray for the world. The world that
that we have come to believe it. We actually believe that we are somehow better than all of those Third World nations that Pope Francis implored us to take care of in the name of the God we claim. If it wasn't bad enough that Pope Francis pissed off the Republican Party by continually invoking the idea of immigration in all of its spiritual contexts, he wrecked them on the Climate Change, the Iran Nuclear Treaty and on several of their wrong-
has so much less than we have been blessed with. Don't get caught up in the sordid papal history which has been conjectured to have ties with the mafia. Don't be disillusioned by all of the ritual and headwear and holy garments. Don't reduce the Pope or the Catholic Church to the level of a few wayward perverts. Pope Francis modeled Jesus in reminding us of our sins and summoning us toward repentance and a better future.
QUIT PLAYIN’ By Vincent Hall Irrespective of the fact that some 70,000,000 plus, or roughly 22% of our population is Catholic, I am not. However, I was raised to show deference to the sacred rituals of other religions. That being said, I must tell you by George, that I love Pope Francis. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and his birth name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio. Get it…”By George,” as in Jorge. Jorge in Spanish is George…It was a pun!! Stay with me here because I know you had a hard time putting your finger on why you were spellbound with Pope Francis's visit to Cuba and to the United States. If for no other reason than the fact that he eliminated GOP frontrunner “Donald J. Chump” from the daily media melee, Pope Francis did America a great big favor. This papal visit may not mean much to some, but every part of his demeanor, dialogue, and even his dialect were a symbol of muchneeded humility. The truth of the matter is that America has
In the midst of his genius and sang-froid, he even made a silent statement with the car he drove. That little four-door Fiat he rode in, when juxtaposed to those massive American SUVs was a constant reminder of how overwrought we are with power and how wasteful we are with God’s economy and environment. America, you might have missed it, but we just got Punk’d. Pope Francis used the best of our past to point out the failings of our present. He said as much to Congress. “A nation can be considered great when it defends liberty as Lincoln did, when it fosters a culture which enables people to “dream” of full rights for all their brothers and sisters, as Martin Luther King sought to do; when it strives for justice and the cause of the oppressed, as Dorothy Day did by her tireless work, the fruit of a faith which becomes dialogue and sows peace in the contemplative style of Thomas Merton. “In these remarks I have sought to present some of the richness of your cultural heritage, of the spirit of the American people. It is my desire that this spirit continue to develop and grow, so that as many young people as possible can inherit and dwell in a land which has inspired so many people to dream. “God bless America!”
"Our people have made the mistake of confusing the methods with the objectives. As long as we agree on objectives, we should never fall out with each other just because we believe in different methods, or tactics, or strategy. We have to keep in mind at all times that we are not fighting for separation. We are fighting for recognition as free humans in this society." -Malcolm X

Spiritually Speaking
Move. It's God's Turn, Not Yours. One of the more telling things about being a Christian, no matter how new the claim might be, is a new found understanding and appreciation of being by yourself; being by yourself with the Lord that is.
Spiritually Speaking By James A. Washington
Some might call it prayer, others meditation. You can in call it what you want to, but being alone with God is a whole lot different than being alone without God. Understanding this reality, once you’ve accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, can take some getting used to. I mean there are many of us, including yours truly, who at times, have had great difficulty dealing with self. We can find countless things to do with time alone i. e., lights get turned on, channel surfing starts, music blasts, people get called and shopping gets done. Life got you down? Now I do not know if comfortable is the right word to use, but I’m going to use it, like it or not. We aren’t comfortable with who we really are. It might be fear. It might be shame. It could even be embarrassment. All of this and more comes into play when circumstances force us to look back over our own lives without external interference or internal rationalizations. Deafening silence is filled with the rather loud volume of truth.
!
Yes I went there. Yes, you said it. You did it. And you had a great time while you were at it. But now, if the truth be known, you really wish you hadn’t. You knew better then and you certainly know better now. But you did it anyway thinking if nobody knew, if nobody was watching, then maybe it would be okay. Perhaps you ‘got over.’ Wrong! You see, the closer you get to accepting the Lord’s call upon you, the more you understand that facing up to your inner demons is required homework. Can’t escape. Can’t hide. Coming to grips with one’s sinful past is a prerequisite for all future relationships and some that you’re in right now; particularly the one with Jesus Christ. It’s that truth will set you free stuff. I now believe that the peace of reconciliation with one’s self begins and ends with the unadulterated truth that nothing can stand between you and the God who loves you; not your pride, not ego, not your insecurity, not your sinful nature, and especially not your clouded view of who you think you really are, as opposed to who God knows you are. If God’s in the picture, it’s just you and Him. And He accepts no substitutes for you; no pretenders, gamesters, no pretense or facades.
After all, He knows who you are because He made you in His image not yours. But isn’t that the beauty of what He offers all of us? Isn’t it His essence that we actually seek? Before you attempt to answer with yes, understand that yes means you will never be alone again in life or in death. Now what I’m talking about is getting used to the man or woman in the mirror. That is exactly who God made and whom He loves, warts and all. One of the most awesome things about this revelation is that once it is internalized, it is the most powerful gift in this and any other world. Now you can fill those otherwise lonely moments with the truth that you are surrounded by the ever present crowd of One. The key is knowing you’ve always got that one ever present companion. In His eyes you are the extraordinary one. After all, we are made in His image. Now go find a quiet spot away from everyone and look for Him inside you. Listen carefully. Hear obediently. Believe and let God bless you. Believe and God will bless you. It’s His way. May God bless and keep you always.

QUESTION: I’ve been on Medicaid for several months and drawing SSI from Social Security Administration (SSA). I’ll be turning age 62 next month, I was informed by SSA that my SSI would go away because I’ll start drawing a Social Security Retirement check. Since my retirement income will be significantly greater than the SSI I’ll no longer be eligible for Medicaid assistance. I’m concerned about keeping some medical assistance so my question is will I get Medicare too when I turn 62 next month? ANSWER: That depends; people are eligible to enroll in Medicare prior to age 65 only if they’re on Social Security Disability and have met the 24month waiting period, or have a special condition. Check with the Social Security Administration to see when you will be eligible for Medicare. If you find that you’re not eligible for Medicare yet, then you can always visit yourtexasbenefits.com or call 2-1-1, that’s if you live in Texas, to find what medical resources are available in your area. Evaluating President Obama’s First 100 Days Political analysts, both mainstream and Black news media and intellectuals around the country have given their grade evaluation on President Barack Obama’s first 100 days in office, marked on April 30. “I am deeply impressed with the progress that President Barack Obama has made during the first 100 days of his administration. Already we are seeing evidence of the administration’s plan to dig our country out of recession and develop long-term, sustainable prosperity. President Obama has made two trips abroad, proving to us and to the world that he intends to repair our frayed alliances and restore our international leadership. Finally, the Obama administration’s code of ethics has brought much-needed transparency and accountability to the White House. President Obama is delivering on the change that he promised.”

Investment in new MGM Grand Resort Casino could yield large return for Radio One The definition of an entrepreneur is an individual who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so. Transitioning from a homeless single mother to the owner of the largest Black-owned broadcast company in the U.S., Cathy Hughes, founder of Radio One, is the living example of a "risk taker." Most recently, she proved her risk acumen by investing $40 million into the new MGM Grand Casino at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Just as she took the risk of starting her own radio station in 1980, she is now taking the necessary risk to ensure the company's success. According to consultants hired by the State of Maryland, the $1.3 billion MGM Resort is projected to generate $713 million to $719 million in annual gambling revenue by 2019. At a 1 percent cut, this translates into a projected 7 million dollars annually for Radio One. In recent months, the company lost $32 million and stock value is down to $2.50 per share This investment could mean a complete financial turnaround for Radio One. Hughes' investment may result in future opportunities to broadcast MGM Grand boxing matches, concerts, and other events on Radio One-owned radio stations (Jonathan O'Connell, Washington Post).

600 Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Volunteers Support 12 DFW area Nonprofits in Third Annual Week of Caring Fort Worth, TX - Six hundred Mercedes-Benz Financial Services employees mobilized across the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, volunteering to make a positive difference with 12 local nonprofit organizations during the week of Sept. 21, 2015. This was the third annual Week of Caring for the company, whose Business Operations Center is located in Fort Worth. Week of Caring is a weeklong community service campaign that the automotive financial services company has organized as part of its corporate commitment to make a difference in the communities where its team members live and work.
turned into an assembly line for the Kids Against Hunger program. More than 24,000 meals for children and families in need were packaged by 35 employees. The packaged ingredients include fortified soy and rice casserole-style meals, specifically formulated to meet the nutritional needs of a starving child. All the food packaged was delivered to the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
The volunteer projects were selected by employees and varied from helping elementary students, senior citizens, the underprivileged and the hungry. In addition, the company presented a $50,000 check to REAL School Gardens at Cannon Elementary School in Grapevine, Texas for a brand new learning garden. Eighty-five employees from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services volunteered to build the garden from the ground up. The garden will be a great science-learning tool for the students, where a variety of hands-on activities will be engaging tools to learn math, science and language arts. Statistics show that school learning gardens improve grades and test scores by 12 to 15 percent. Jai Kately was excited to give back to a school he attended Sagamore Hill Elementary. He joined 34 of his coworkers in spending the day building individual bookshelves for 300 first graders to take home. The volunteers helped the youngsters decorate the bookshelves with paint and pick out two books to start their home library. "I grew up poor in this neighborhood, so I know what it is like for these students," Kately said. "I want to do what I can to help them." Kately has found ways to volunteer in the East Fort Worth community on his own as well for the past decade. Some of the volunteer projects took place at the MercedesBenz Financial Services Fort Worth Business Operations Center. One large conference room at the facility was

On path to success A quality education extends outside the classroom and is all year long. That has indeed been the case for the education of Joseph Jackson Clayton, a fourth grader at Harry Stone Montessori Academy of Dallas ISD. Joseph started the fourth grade, this past August, after having educational experiences that took him to the Texas State Capitol in Austin, Texas where he served as a Senate Page for the office of State Senator Royce West. T h e Te x a s S t a t e S e n a t e welcomed Joseph as an honorary Senate Pa ge during the 84th Legislative Session. Joseph was accompanied by a Senate Messenger during his service as a

He also assisted with other assignments such as making copies, and c o m p l e t i n g s p e c i a l e r r a n d requests. During his shift, Joseph had the opportunity to work on the Senate
Floor during Session and witnessed how Senate business was conducted. For his outstanding volunteerism, Joseph received a note and lapel pin from Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and a note, handshake and compliment from Senate Finance Committee Chair Jane Nelson. Joseph also visited the Alamo and other historical buildings in San Antonio and enjoyed learning about Texas history and culture. The eager fourth grader enjoys reading, playing outside and practicing math. He says that he doesn't have a favorite schools subject he loves and excels in them all.

Ghana-Canada soccer game planners brief media Ghana and Canada rekindle a historic soccer rivalry at the senior level during their October 13, 2015 clash at Washington DC. The million dollar question is, will the Canadian underdogs repeat history with another victory or will Ghana avenge the 2-1 defeat suffered during their first clash a little over 30 years ago? A desire to repeat history and the urge for revenge have created suspense and generated interest in this friendly. Canada recorded that victory June 2, 1985 in Seoul during The Presidents Cup; an international tournament hosted by the South Koreans at the time. It is in view of this high stakes that Top Global LLC, (a US based sports management company who are organizers of this game) are making feverish preparations to ensure a successful match which is anticipated to attract a largely cosmopolitan crowd. The above picture was painted to a delegation of media personnel that paid a courtesy call on the officials to explore details about the clash between the African soccer giants, 24th on the FIFA rankings and their North American underdogs, perched at 116 as of September 25, 2015. The media delegation comprised Executive Officers of TheAfricanDream LLC and TribeZone Africa TV in the persons of Oral Ofori and Kofi Jacquaye respectively. On hand to talk to the delegation was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Top Global LLC Rev. Lord Asante Boadu, who was very excited to receive the US based Ghanaian media practitioners into his offices in Gaithersburg Maryland in the USA. H e a n d h i s p a r t n e r, M i c h a e l Bannerman-Hyde, said it was good to have members of the media pay extra attention to the efforts their organization was putting into ensuring the success of the October
!
13 game to be played at the RFK Stadium in Washington DC. Kofi Jacquaye and Oral Ofori on their parts wished the organizers well and encouraged media practitioners and institutions in the USA and especially within the African Diaspora to give the upcoming game maximum coverage owing to its historic nature. Top Global LLC as a Sports Management firm in the words of Rev. Boadu, the soccer-lovingpreacher, is “a firm that plans, negotiates and showcases exciting soccer matches and tourneys with the objective to promote and grow the love of soccer worldwide”. He continued, “we collaborate with various sponsors, advertisers and media syndicates to bring these events to soccer fans in the United States, Canada and worldwide.” In his response to a question from Oral Ofori of TheAfricanDream LLC about the significance of the Ghana-Canada friendly, the Reverend said “We want to use this game as an opportunity to strengthen relationship between all the countries involved. The game seeks to offer Ghanaians in the Diaspora an opportunity to see their beloved Black Stars play in the Washington DC area which is very cosmopolitan and has lots of soccer loving Africans and nonAfricans alike. “For the Canadians, they will be able to rub shoulders with a top class Ghanaian side not as underdogs, but as worthy competitors that plan to use this game as an opportunity
to emerge from the shadows of soccer maturity and show the world how the game is growing in Canada too. This will be a great cultural extravaganza uniting diverse cultures, something we are proud to be an integral part of” revealed Michael Bannerman-Hyde, a Top Global LLC partner. An interview conducted by Oral Ofori on Rev. Boadu during the visit and videotaped by the Tribe Zone Africa crew showed the Reverend saying security for the Game is going to be provided by the DC police. Ghanaian music group Ruff n Smooth and Bizzi B will be providing half time entertainment. There are also plans to have dignitaries from respective countries attend the game. For more information on the upcoming game check out the www.TopGlobalLLC.com website.
