PEOPLES LAUNCHES EVENT VENUE IN TARRANT COUNTY
CEO brings Insight, Experience and Creative Excellence to North Texas Event Planning
La’Wonda Peoples North Richland Hills, TX –EventfullyYours, LLC, a new venture founded by LaWonda Peoples, will open its first venue on August 19, 2016 in North Richland Hills, Texas. A ribbon-cutting event and host of invitation-only parties will properly unveil the stunning 5,500 square foot venue to North Texans. But it’s more than a venue, it is place where memorable experiences will be created. And for those who know Ms. Peoples, creating experiences is her reason for being. Midway through a stellar 25-year American Airlines career, Ms. Peoples was asked to plan a major divisional event. Not settling for the mundane, she grabbed the creative reins and migrated what was slated to be just another mandatory corporate party to an event people talked about for months. “I realized that I had a gift for organization and planning and seeing creative ways
to bring people together to create memorable experiences. As I reflect on that moment in time, I understand that I uncovered my passion. The dream of EventfullyYours was born,” said Ms. Peoples, who concluded her AA career in the highly visible and influential area known as cause marketing. Although she graciously represented American at key global events, she never forgot that for many, she was the face of American Airlines in the Fort Worth/Dallas community having forged essential relationships along the way. The forging of these relationships—joined with a degree in Event Planning from Richland College— prepared Ms. Peoples for her first major event—the Annual Gala for the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce. “The Dallas Black Chamber had an Event Planner with whom they’d worked with for years,” said Ms. Peoples. “She became ill. At the 11th hour they called and asked if I could step in for her.” Balancing her American duties, Ms. Peoples accepted this challenge. Matt Houston, Immediate Past Chairman of the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce said, “La’Wonda is meticulous and organized and enjoyable to work with. On every project she handled for our chamber, her work has far exceeded our expectations. Can I just say that she is amazing?” He continued, “La’Wonda made peerless contributions to American during her tenure. But what I remember above all was the

blending of her extraordinary vision and unassailable work ethic.” Houston’s sentiments are shared by many. No one worked harder than her in presenting the airline’s values to the community,” said former colleague Lindell Singleton. And that extraordinary vision has made EventfullyYours a reality. “When I was planning events, the biggest obstacle we faced was finding the right venue at the right price,” said Ms. Peoples. The opportunity to overcome that obstacle perfectly aligned with the completion of the North Texas Parkway — the new superhighway connecting Fort Worth to DFW along Interstate 35 and Texas 121. North Richland Hills — at the center of the expansion — is a city poised for explosive growth. “Of the many exciting businesses expanding into North Richland Hills, we believe EventfullyYours is of particular importance because La’Wonda’s venue will bring people from all around DFW to Northeast Tarrant County,” said Jack Bradshaw, CEO—Northeast Tarrant County Chamber of Commerce. “We’re happy to support her and looking forward to the ribbon cutting ceremony.” Quality and affordability were factors the Clark Atlanta graduate considered when conceptualizing Eventfully Yours. “What’s important to me is to create a space where people can feel beautiful at their event and, not have to mortgage their home for the experience,” said Ms. Peoples. EventfullyYours Special Events Center is located at 7640 NE Loop 820 and Boulevard 26. To learn more about the venue and the projects Ms. Peoples is currently involved with, visit: http://eventfullyourscompany.com.

This Is Why Black-Owned Newspapers Matter
By Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr. (NNPA President and CEO)
In 2017, we will celebrate 190th anniversary of the Black Press in America. Since the first publication of Freedom’s Journal on March 16, 1827 in New York City, Black-owned newspapers have led the way when it comes to raising a voice of consciousness for Black America. Today, in 2016, Black-owned newspapers still matter. Black Lives Matter. Black Votes Matter. Black Press Matters. In order to overcome racial inequality and injustice, we have to emphasize the importance of nurturing and mentoring the rise of a new generation of freedom-fighting journalists, publishers and African American owners of newspapers and media companies. There is a huge, qualitative difference between media that is Black-owned and non-
Black-owned media that is targeted to Black consumers. Numerous national studies have documented that Blackowned newspapers remain the “trusted and respected” source of news, empowering success stories, and cultural aspirations for more than 45 million Black Americans.
The inaugural Discover the Unexpected (DTU) NNPA Journalism Fellowship Program this summer at the Howard University School of Communications supported by Chevrolet has done remarkably well in identifying and encouraging the next generation of gifted, talented and committed young journalism scholars. The National Newspaper Publishers Association is pleased with the positive and transformative results of the DTU fellowships. The NNPA fellows scored front-page news features in NNPA member newspapers across the nation. In addition to attending both the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Pa., the NNPA fellows completed assignments that covered a wide range of subjects from Muhammad Ali’s legacy and Black arts and culture to contemporary Black family life, the 2016 Olympics in Rio, mass incarceration, new data on police and prosecutorial misconduct and abuse, and the struggle to preserve His-
torically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This summer, Brandi Montgomery and Brelaun Douglas worked at the “Atlanta Voice,” Briahnna Brown and Mckenzie Marshall at the “Chicago Defender,” Victoria Jones and Rushawn Walters at “The Washington Informer,” and Tatyana Hopkins and Sidnee King worked at the “Michigan Chronicle.”
Black-owned newspapers are businesses and employers that continue to serve the economic development interests of Black communities. As the economy in the United States continues to rebound from economic stagnation and recession under the leadership of the first African American President, it should also be a national priority to ensure the advancement of the economic well-being of Black families, businesses, and communities. In the face of historic, political opposition led by the Republican-controlled Congress, President Barack H. Obama, has achieved leadership success in restoring and revitalizing the U.S. economy. In particular, the automotive industry has set new records this year in automobile sales. Thus, we note, with appreciation, those companies in the automotive sector that have been supportive of the NNPA during these difficult
WWW.MYIMESSENGER.COM
and challenging times. General Motors brands continue to advertise with the NNPA and as a consequence contribute to the sustainability of the Black Press in America. In particular, Chevrolet has been outstanding in its support of Discover the Unexpected scholarships as part of the current NNPA fellows program. Chevrolet also increased its advertising with many NNPA newspapers this year. It is our hope that this successful pilot program will be continued and even expanded in the upcoming academic year. Long live Black-owned newspapers and the struggle for freedom, justice and equality. Yes, Black-owned newspapers surely do matter. Learn more about the Discover the Unexpected (DTU) program at http://www.nnpa. org/dtu/ and use the hashtag #DiscoverTheUnexpected on Twitter. Follow us on Twitter @ BlackPressUSA and @ NNPA_BlackPress and like our Facebook page at NNPA Black Press. Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr., is the President and CEO of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) and can be reached for national advertisement sales and partnership proposals at dr.bchavis@nnpa.org and for lectures and other professional consultations at: http://drbenjaminfchavisjr.wix.com/drbfc.

We Have to End the War on Women in Cyberspace Subterranean assaults carried out in the dark of night that make life miserable for their targets have become a current feature of our times.
By Bill Fletcher, Jr. (NNPA News Wire Columnist)
I don’t know whether you have been following this, but there is a very disturbing trend that has been underway. Women in cyberspace are under attack. These attacks are very much focused on programmers and video game designers. These attacks are nothing short of vicious. Yet, the attacks have expanded. Just recently Leslie Jones, a co-star in the reboot of the film “Ghostbusters,” came under such a vicious online assault that she took a breather from Twitter while Twitter management decided to purge some of her worst attackers. What Leslie Jones has experienced, i.e., these vicious online assaults, is something that an increasing number of women that work in cyberspace and technology careers have been living through for years.
This has expanded so much so that it has even become part of popular culture, such as a plotline of one of the “Law & Order” franchises.
I encountered people who were rude, arrogant and intolerant over the Internet, yet when you would meet them in person they would be nothing short of a cuddly teddy bear.
I believe that “The Wizard of Oz Phenomenon” has expanded and it has become the means through which some very mean-spirited, arrogant men What is motivating these at- have decided to conduct a war tacks? The Truth about Your Health and Fitness
By Aaron Johnson Special to I Messenger
There are several reasons why people do not choose a workout lifestyle or healthy lifestyle for that matter. Please understand, your approach to living a healthy lifestyle is also your approach to everything else in your life, period. Here are just a few I would like to mention.
Reason#1 – Lazy
– If you were not introduced to working out or living a healthy lifestyle as a child or pre-teen the chance of you choosing a workout lifestyle as you get older decreases. If I could only count the number of people who come for a few sessions then quit. Or should I say see some adversity, and then quit. How many people expect to get results without putting forth their best physical and mental effort? These attitudes and behaviors began as a child. Does this behavior carry-on into other parts of your life? Right.
#2 – Do Not Know Where to Start
– Living a healthy lifestyle is a scientific and spiritual idea. It should be approached with a certain level of education. You do not have to know everything but you need a basic education, first. This is where Aaron Johnson Fitness Club comes in. Too many people start their workout programs for 4 – 5 days per week, 1 - 3 hours per workout. Even uninformed
fitness trainers will tell you to workout 4 or 5 days per week. Then by week 3 maybe 4 your workout program is over for the year or two years or twenty years. Give me a break, literally. Is what your body is saying. You hear it, you feel it, you listen to it, you quit. Your body is always sending you messages, FYI.
#3 – Self Sabotage
– If I give you two options. Eat healthy or eat unhealthy, 75% to 25% of the time, respectfully. Or if you eat too much of this you get a disease. Or if you eat this you become disease free. Whichever you choose ultimately determines how you view your life and what it is worth. Make the right choice most times, your family will thank you for this. You can thank me later.
#4 – I Do Not Have Time or Money
– Do you have time and money for injury or illness? Prevention is less expensive. That goes for working out and eating healthy. If you pay a trainer one day per week for the rest of your life it
WWW.MYIMESSENGER.COM
will be neither as expensive nor as time consuming as going to repair damage from not working nor choosing healthy foods choice. My solution is a 1 day per week, for 34 minutes workout lifestyle program. Breathe oxygen inhale through the nose exhale out of your mouth, outside nature oxygen, and preferably through the day. At least 1 day per week. Keep it simple. Increasing your heart rate through exercise will increase blow flow throughout your body and give you more energy. Break a sweat. Your body loves to sweat or release toxins. Stretch your muscles for increased blood flow through your body. This is fundamental it releases and relives pain through the entire body. Visit my blog for workout videos and tips www.FitnessTrainingDallas.com . My solution for eating healthy is to watch portions sizes first. Eat for energy mostly not entertainment. Then begin to educate yourself and family, slowly, about the best foods to eat and where to buy those foods for budget efficiency. Healthy eating choices are a cultural phenomenon. What is healthy eating for one culture is different for another culture. Take that into consideration when you choose foods which your culture may deem unhealthy but another deems to be healthy. Fruits and vegetables works in every culture. Keep it simple. Visit my blog for more information www.FitnessTrainingDallas.com “It is my pleasure to serve you.” #GetFitStayFit

What about my friend? Did she let me down?
Ask Alma: by Alma Gill

Dear Alma,
A couple of months ago a real friendly woman moved into the condo across the hall. She and I hit it off right away. We went shopping and to lunch together. We even went to a music concert and had a real fun time, or so I thought. All of a sudden, she just stopped calling, texting, visiting and really just being my friend. I don’t know what happen. We still speak. She’ll give me a big wave across the parking lot or when I see her in the hall, she seems generally glad to see me, but we just don’t hang out anymore. I’m not sure what happened. I really like her and I want to be her friend. What do you think I should do to get her to talk to me and hang out again? Signed, Lost My Running Buddy Dear Lost My Running Buddy, Well, hmmm Sugar Plum, did you do something to piss her off or hurt her feelings? Could you possibly have said something that was a bit harsh? Maybe you gave your opinion on a particular subject that didn’t sit well with her. Or, could it be, she just don’t like you?
Have you ever started a new friendship and partway down the loop you think, “you know what, I don’t really like this person all that much?” Usually it takes a run around the romper room to learn the true personality of a person. Most folks start out sane and with good intentions, spoon feeding you what’s whole and wholesome about them. They seem to be on the up and up, until, Lord have mercy, six months later, here she comes outta nowhere, drowning in red wine, Missy Super Rachet. You’re totally blindsided like when you innocently pick up a hitchhiker who has an ax, or a hatchet, LOL, I couldn’t resist. This woman could be Lucy Looneybird relocating from Louisiana, you don’t know. Anyhow, let it go. Evidently, ya’ll ain’t got the same flow! You can’t make somebody like you nor should you try. If she decided you were not someone she’d like to add to her friends list, so be it, trust her judgment. She knows herself better than you and she’s had time to peep your hold card. Trust me when I say you’re all the better for it. It’s best to find out up front who’s not friend material, than to waste time cooking in a frying pan of foolishness. Great friendships that are worthwhile grow like a beautiful wisteria vine, you couldn’t stop it if you tried, nor would you want to. Alma

I Messenger Truth is......... A grateful heart is key to success! By Dr. Keisha Lankford
There is an age old question regarding how to look at life and how to have a fulfilling life! In analyzing this question, I would like to refer to the glass half full vs. half empty analogy. My thought is, life is so much more fulfilling looking at the glass half full! Looking at the glass half empty, focuses on what we've lost or what we don't have. However, looking at the glass half full affords us the ability to concentrate on what we have to develop, nurture and appreciate! In life it's easy to become complacent and forget the common things. An example is good health! Many don't appreciate the good health until it's compromised! When we take those blessings for granted, we typically won’t understand. The strength is to focus on our own blessings. When we focus on others blessings, we began to be resentful of our those thin gs take a person once said, jealousy is counting someone else's blessings. If we had a grateful heart, we would count our own and we’d realize that we are equally as blessed! Many don't realize, having a grateful heart, can make life so much more enjoyable! Focusing and appreciating what you have increases the opportunity to receive more! Life is a very Interesting journey! Lots of ups and downs! One thing I've found to be most helpful is a grateful heart! A grateful heart is always acknowledging your creator and the people that support you. Reading this week, it was mentioned that love is an action word, well, so is gratitude! Being grateful is exemplified by being helpful, encouraging, supportive and often times reciprocating! A grateful heart, is always appreciative, taking good care of what they have been blessed with which is not limited to things. It actually includes people too! One of the great secrets to success is being thankful. I try really hard not to give my daughters more of something if they didn't appreciate what they had. If I did, I would soon regret it! Why because they would lack respect for the sacrifice, money, time and thought invested. In other words, I would become frustrated! The same is true in life. Could it be that God is holding a lot of blessings from us because we have no appreciation for the last blessings? A grateful Heart and spirit are key!
