JetBlue Airlines --the answer to your problems!

Life After on TV One 7

JetBlue Airlines is calling the bluff of many. Including me! That’s right, I am one of those Americans who said, “If my candidate does not win, I am outtahere.” More specifically, I said I was going home to the Motherland, preferably along the coastline. On JetBlue’s website, it reads: “If your candidate doesn’t win, don’t worry. Election Protection could be your ticket out of the country.”

For some, if there candidate is not victorious, there is no need or desire to continue living in America. Instead of celebrating on Nov. 6 , it’s time to vacate the premises and for those “die-hard partisans,” the New York -based airline has just the answer with its offer of escape from a country doomed to perish, because after all that is what we can expect if our candidate doesn’t win. “We’ve all heard it said before: if my candidate does not win, I’m leaving the country,” Marty St. George, senior vice president marketing and commercial strategy for JetBlue, said in a statement. “Fun is one of our five founding values, and in this spirit we decided to give people a chance to recover from the political noise and follow through on their claim to skip town if their candidate comes up short.” In order to participate, all you need to do is visit the web site www.jetblue.com/ electionprotection and enter your choice for president. The simple process includes clicking on the donkey or the elephant. According to JetBlue, after logging on through Facebook, you will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win tickets to one of 21 international destinations -- if your candidate doesn’t win. JetBlue officials say the airline is giving away 2,012 one-way seats, or 1,006 roundtrip certificates, to destinations such as the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, St. Maarten, St. Lucia and Turks & Caicos and President Obama currently holds a six percentage point lead over Romney in the online “poll.” I went on line and voted, and picked a destination which will change should I win. This is one drawing I don’t want to win. The candidate that I chose will do great things not just for America, but for the world. No matter where I choose to go, American influence is significant and the entire world benefits from a victory for my candidate. Equally if not more important than the presidential election has to be the trip I am urging voters to take down the ticket. How about the sheriffs, district attorneys, commissioners, congressmen, senators, and so on? Please go to the polls and vote. Sure I want to continue traveling the world, but this election is much bigger than one person.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT...

The Art of Communication

Greedy King Children at it again

TRUTH TO POWER By GEORGE E. CURRY

Adarian Thomas with his school project

Eight-year-old Adarian was sent home from school with his class project this week, The assignment was: "You will create a book review about a myth, legend, or folktale that teaches a lesson about positive interactions." It was a family affair, preparing the project. Adarian was excited about choosing a legend. He looked at different books trying to find someone that would meet the criteria set forth by his teacher at Hyman Elementary. When Adarian father went to meet him at the bus stop, he said he was surprised because his son got off the bus with his project in hand and a sad look on his face. It seems that his teacher said that the person he chose to write about was NOT a legend. He was told to do it over and he would be docked 10 points for turning it in late. The "legend" that Adarian chose was Muhammad Ali. Now everyone knows that Mr. Ali is a humanitarian and philanthropist, as well as being one of the most recognizable men in the world. Once the Heavyweight Champion of the World, Mr. Ali at 75 received the Liberty Medal for his longtime role outside the ring as a fighter for humanitarian causes, civil rights and religious freedom. The school principal says there was a miscommunication and not only with Adarian, so he will not be penalized. Communication is key. The teacher wanted the class to focus on a mythical legend, but her paper didn’t say so. She could have told Adarian that he chose the wrong type of legend, instead of telling him that Muhammad Ali was not a legend, you think? This is a teachable moment for everyone. According to the parents, school officials have apologized, but hey were not pleased with the teacher, who they said was very defensive. Teachers are very important and should be treated with the utmost respect. We must support our teachers and they must realize that there’s a lot of responsibility that comes with the position. Interestingly when the story about this incident aired on NBC5, some viewers said the race card was played. That was not the case at all, it was actually the poor communication skills card. You can check out the story on the NBC5 site. Adarian’s family never said anything about “race.” So now the ignorance card gets played. We have to stop the madness and we all lose when we are disrespectful of others in any way! PAGE 4

OCTOBER 12, 2012

In his “I Have a Dream Speech” delivered at the 1963 March on Washington, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said he dreamed of the day his children would be judged not by the color of their skin but the content of their character. If Dr. King had known how Martin III, Dexter and Bernice would later fight over money generated by commercially exploiting his name, he might have omitted any reference to their character. When it comes to money, King’s remaining children have no character. The latest of many examples is their profiting from the construction of the Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial. They – and all Americans – should be grateful that Harry E. Johnson, Sr. and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity had the vision and unflagging commitment to believe they could erect a memorial to Dr. King on the National Mall. Last year, the 30-foot, 8-inch statue of King was unveiled, dwarfing the 19foot statue of Thomas Jefferson and the Abraham Lincoln memorial, which is 19 feet, 6 inches. Instead of being satisfied with this impressive memorial to their father – the first monument to an African American on the Mall – the King children saw dollar signs. They have collected more than $3 million in licensing fees from the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation. The fees were charged in exchange for allowing the foundation to use King’s words and likeness in fundraising appeals and as part of the memorial complex itself. Harry Johnson has raised $119 million of the $120 million needed to

build the memorial. But I doubt that any donor gave money to the project with the expectation that the King children would be able to line their pockets with their contribution. David Garrow, the Pulitzer Prizewinning King biographer, told the Associated Press that Dr. King would have been “absolutely scandalized by the profiteering behavior of his children.” He added, “I don’t think the Jefferson family, the Lincoln family…I don’t think any other group of family ancestors has been paid a licensing fee for a memorial in Washington. One would think any family would be so thrilled to have their forefather celebrated and memorialized in D.C. that it would never dawn on them to ask for a penny.” The King family is not looking for pennies or dollars. They are looking for millions. They are already making millions from King’s “I Have a Dream Speech.” King was a very public man, giving a public speech at the Lincoln Memorial, yet the King children claim that he was a private citizen and therefore they are entitled to profit from his public pronouncements. They successfully sued CBS to prevent the network from airing the “I Have a Dream Speech” – without paying them. But would they win such a suit today? Fortunately for them, people are willing to give them a pass b e c a u s e t h e y a r e D r. K i n g ’s dysfunctional children, not because of anything they have done. Private citizens don’t have federal holidays named in their honor. Monuments aren’t erected to them on the National Mall. If Dr. King isn’t a public figure, no one is. Even worse than charging the foundation that erected the King Memorial for use of King’s words and images, the King family has now told the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation that their licensing agreement has expired and the family will not extend it. Not even for a sizeable fee. And by the way, the foundation can no longer use King in its name and will have to change that, too..

So what is their angle? You know the money grubbing Kings had to have one. Bernice King, CEO of the King Center in Atlanta, announced a year-long celebration leading to the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. “We are excited by the four days of activities we have organized to commemorate my father’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech, in cooperation with the MLK, Jr. National Historic Site and the CDC,” she said. “As we launch the year-long countdown to the global observance of the 50th anniversary, the Dreamkeepers Program events will help us address the still relevant challenge of creating a more just society through nonviolent activism.” The King Center – which has been managed by Dexter, Martin III and now Bernice – hopes to raise $170 million from the events. The famous march was about more than a young preacher from Atlanta delivering a sterling speech that mesmerized the nation. Rather, it was called the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It was organized by A. Philip Randolph, president of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. With an official Black unemployment rate of 14.4 percent, the emphasis should again be on jobs, not Dr. King’s speech. But a focus on jobs wouldn’t put any money into the King coffers. And they’ve already shown that is one of their major objectives. They had arranged for Sotheby to auction King’s papers in 2006. But Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin stepped in and organized a private group that paid $32 million for the papers and donated them to Morehouse College, King’s alma mater. Had he been alive, that’s something Dr. King probably would have done. But unlike his children, he wouldn’t do it to make a buck. George E. ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL

Magic Johnson makes an appeal

In basketball, getting ready for the big game takes years of hard work on the court and in the weight room. But getting ready to vote? Now that's easy -- and this year it's more important than I can ever remember. So much is on the line this election -- from accessible health care to good, affordable education -- and it's up to us to deliver the win for President Obama.

Will you ask your friends to register to vote today? If there's one thing I learned on the court, it's that people can always achieve more when they're working together as one team. That's the vision President Obama has for our country -- and that's why it's so important for us to vote in this election. I couldn't be prouder to have a president who stands up for the middle class and provides a good role model for our community. It doesn't hurt that he knows how to make a jump shot, too. So I'm going to tell you the same thing I always tell younger players: Make sure you're ready for game day. Get your friends to register to vote now: https://my.barackobama.com/ Game-Day-Registration It's game time. Let's go win this thing. Magic PAGE 6

Peta Lindsay and Yari Osorio, PSL Candidates for President and Vice President, on the victory of Hugo Chávez “We socialists in the United States celebrate with Venezuela’s working and poor people the re-election of Hugo Chávez”Socialists throughout the Americas, and indeed throughout the world, join with the Venezuelan working people in celebrating the re-election of Hugo Chávez as Venezuela’s president. As the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) in the United States, we recognize that Chávez’s victory is a step forward for working and poor people everywhere. Wall Street and the CIA are disappointed today for the same reason that millions of people in Venezuela and throughout Latin America are celebrating. Chávez and the Bolivarian revolutionary process seek to overturn the wretched capitalist status quo that has allowed the elites to get ever richer while the masses of people suffer in deep poverty. Massive support for the Bolivarian revolution could be seen in a huge rally two days before the election, on Friday, Oct. 5, with 3 million people dressed in bright red packing seven main avenues of the capital. With 54.42 percent of a record-turnout vote, Chávez has won a fourth term as president of Venezuela in a race widely recognized as a crucial struggle between the progressive forces of the “Bolivarian Revolution” and the right-wing opposition of U.S.-backed Henrique Capriles. His Democratic Unity coalition (MUD) had hoped to return the wealthy classes — national and foreign — to their former unchallenged status by reversing the social and economic gains of the vast majority of Venezuelans.

In 2004, Peta Lindsay was the youngest delegate to the World Meeting of Artists and Intellectuals in Defense of Humanity in Venezuela, hosted by President Hugo Chávez and the Venezuelan government.

Before Chávez’s presidency, at least 66 percent of the population of Venezuela — a country with one of the highest oil and natural gas reserves in the world — suffered from deep poverty. Despite enormous natural and industrial wealth, the two dominant capitalist parties, Copei and Acción Democrática, ran the government to benefit both the Venezuelan elite and U.S. and British oil companies. That old social order is coming undone in Latin America. It needs an equally radical transformation in North America, where capitalism has allowed the 400 richest billionaires to increase their wealth by 13 percent in the last year while millions lost their jobs, homes and health insurance while the government handed their tax dollars over to the biggest banks and the criminal cliques who run them. Today, socialist and progressive proworker movements are struggling throughout the Americas for a new world. The governments of Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador and, of course, Cuba, are representative of a hemispheric trend to overturn the old, oppressive order.

This is not the Latin America of yesterday, when U.S. imperialism was able to expel Cuba from the Organization of American States, invade Dominican Republic in 1965, overthrow Salvador Allende in 1973, invade Grenada in 1983 and Panama in 1989. Now there is a powerful anti-imperialist alliance of countries that have supported each other’s social development, sharing resources and building solidarity. We, in the United States, will continue to demonstrate our solidarity with the people of Venezuela as they struggle for workers rights, for justice and for socialism. We oppose the policies of the U.S. government that continue to treat Latin America as its colonial “backyard.” The Party for Socialism and Liberation's Lindsay/Osorio Presidential Campaign is on the ballot in 13 states, covering every region of the country: the West - Colorado, Utah, Washington; the South - Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana; the Midwest - Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin; and the Northeast - New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont. The 10-Point Program of the Lindsay/ Osorio campaign calls for making a job, healthcare, housing and education the constitutional rights of every person; seizing the big banks and creating a national people’s bank; ending all wars and interventions; stopping racist police brutality and mass incarceration; defense of women’s rights; equality for lesbian, gay, bi and transgender people; full rights for immigrants; defense of unions; and saving the planet by ending capitalism.

Democrats gather at TBAAL for first presidential debate

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson speaks as Dallas County Democratic Chair Darlene Ewing looks on.

In Dallas, more than 1,000 Dallas County Democrats converged on the Texas Black Academy of Arts and Letters, to be a part of the biggest Presidential Debate Watch Party in the state. Those numbers directly reflect the excitement

around President Obama's reelection and the Dallas County Democratic Party's goal to make history again, with competitive House District campaigns and a likely super-majority in the Dallas County Commissioner's Court. "Our County Party knows how to turn Democrats out. I'm thrilled with tonight's response," said Darlene Ewing, Dallas County Democratic Party Chair. "We will keep turning out Democrats all the way to Election Day. We are talking to voters about Straight Democratic Ticket voting when we knock on doors every Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon until November 6," she said. "In the past three cycles, Dallas Democrats have made and kept the county Blue, even in 2010. !

Dallas has performed a threepeat. 2012 will be a four-peat," said Dallas County 116th Civil District Court Judge Tonya Parker. "Democrats know what's at stake in this election," she said. "President Obama's plans for the economy, health care and education all move our country forward, but Romney won't tell us his plans and even Sunday his running-mate said 'he didn't have time' to explain the Romney budget," said Dallas Democrat Emma Nelson. "When do we get specifics? In December?" she said. Democrats and disenchanted Republicans may get involved locally by contacting the Dallas County Democratic Party headquarters directly, 214.821.8331. !

A Healthy You Survey: U.S. seniors overwhelmingly satisfied with Medicare Part D Coverage Affordability, Reliability and Ease-of-Use Cited as Primary Factors; Room for Improvement Exists with Open Enrollment, Plan Education Washington, D.C. With the future of Medicare top of mind for millions of Americas seniors and their families, a national survey released recently finds that nine out of 10 seniors are satisfied with their Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D). The survey also shows that overall satisfaction with Part D has increased from 78 percent to 90 percent since the program was first implemented. Ninety-six percent report that their coverage works well, and nearly 3 in 4 seniors say it works very well. Conducted annually since 2006 by Medicare Today and KRC Research, the survey is the nations longest running public opinion survey of seniors views toward the Part D program. Its very rare to get nine out of 10 people to agree on anything, but Medicare Part D has sustained that level of acceptance and popularity, said Mary R. Grealy, Chairman of Medicare Today and President of the Healthcare Leadership Council. Beneficiaries view Part D as affordable, reliable and userfriendly. Its become an essential component of seniors healthcare. Other key findings: Seniors Depend on Part D: Eighty-four percent of seniors report that their outof-pocket drug costs would be much higher without Part D, and sixty-one percent would be unable to fill all of their prescriptions. Similarly, 53 percent would be more likely to cut back or stop taking medicine altogether. Dual Eligibles and Low-Income Seniors Give Part D High Marks: 91 percent of seniors earning less than $15,000 per year and 95 percent of those eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid report being satisfied with the program. Reliability Sees Greatest Improvement Since Implementation: Those feeling peace of mind by having Part D PAGE 9

coverage has increased 16 points (78 to 94 percent) since 2006. At the same time, those feeling frustrated has declined 8 percentage points over the past year. Part D Is a Bi-Partisan Proposition: Despite differences over a variety of domestic and foreign policy issues, Democratic and Republican seniors share a 90 percent satisfaction rate with their Part D coverage. Seniors Cite Multiple Reasons for Approval: More than 8 in 10 seniors report that their plan is predictable, affordable, reasonable, and offers good value. While satisfaction rates remain high, the survey finds that there is still an opportunity to educate seniors on the benefits of shopping around for another plan and many are unaware of the Medicare Plan Finder tool that allows seniors to compare Medicare prescription drug plans. Only once before in the history of this survey have we seen a 90 percent satisfaction rate and it is a testament to the strength of the program, said Mark Richards, senior vice president of KRC Research. At the same time, there is a significant opportunity to educate and empower millions of seniors who are happy with their coverage, but who are not yet focused on this years open enrollment and the flexibility to change plans. In August, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services projected that 2013 average monthly Part D premiums would remain near $30 for the third year in a row. This is significantly lower than a 2004 Medicare Trustees report that projected a $61 average monthly premium for 2013. For seniors who would like to sign up for a new Part D plan or change an existing plan, the Medicare Open Enrollment period runs from October 15 to December 7. Beneficiaries can get more information on Part D coverage by going to www.medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE.

Commissioner Staples awards $1.8 million in federal grants to improve production of crops Funding will help consumers access more quality Texas produce AUSTIN — Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples has announced the Texas

Department of Agriculture has secured and awarded more than $1.8 million in federal funding to promote and develop Texas-grown specialty crops. The grants, funded through the USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, will be awarded to 26 projects throughout the state. “The specialty crop funding will further improve the ability of Texas consumers to access food grown right here in Texas while giving Texas farmers access to the tools and resources needed to grow their businesses and improve the quality of their crops,” Commissioner Staples said. Specialty crops are defined as fruits and vegetables, dried fruit, tree nuts, horticulture and nursery crops, including floriculture. Texas ranks among the nation’s leaders in the production of many specialty crops, including citrus, onions, watermelons, pecans, grapes and others. The Specialty Crops Competitiveness Act of 2004 authorized USDA to help states enhance specialty crop competitiveness. The 26 projects being funded were chosen through a competitive grant application process administered by TDA. The selected projects specialize in several key areas, including: improved food safety; increased development of

OCTOBER 12, 2012

the specialty crops industry; increased marketing and promotion of Texasgrown produce; increased promotion and consumer awareness of the nutritional benefits of produce consumption; and increased protection of Texas specialty crops from plant pests and diseases. The following are some of the ways in which TDA will utilize the recent round of federal specialty crop funds: Partner with Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association to establish a series of grape-growing workshops. Partner with Texas Olive Oil Council to enhance consumers’ and growers’ awareness of Texas olives. Prevent the spread of citrus greening in Texas through research and containment measures performed by Texas A&M Kingsville. Partner with the Texas State Florists’ Association to increase awareness of local Texas florists through a high school design competition; and increase promotion and sales of local flower shops through increased media coverage. Statement by Joint Center President & CEO Ralph B. Everett on the death of former Congressman Mervyn Dymally

1926- 2012 We join with residents of California in mourning the loss of one of the state’s most remarkable leaders and a key figure in the founding of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies in 1970, the Honorable Mervyn Dymally. For more than 40 years, he embodied the notion that anyone who works hard and plays by

the rules can realize the American Dream. A native of Trinidad, Congressman Dymally’s career in public service was marked by a series of “firsts.” He was the first African American to serve in the California Senate and became the first to hold statewide elective office when he became Lieutenant Governor. In the United States House of Representatives, he distinguished himself as a member of the House Foreign Relations Committee by championing the sanctions that helped end apartheid in South Africa. During his six terms in the House, he served as Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus. Congressman Dymally was a mentor to a generation of California politicians and an inspiration to public servants and civic leaders across the country. We salute him for his lasting contributions. Congressman Dymally received his secondary education at St. Benedict and Naparima Secondary School located in San Fernando, Trinidad and moved to the United States to study journalism at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. After a semester, he moved to Los Angeles where he eventually graduated from California State University, Los Angeles in 1954. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

A SON’S LOVE BY CHERYL SMITH

“I have so much love for my mother that I don’t want anyone to suffer without information.” Bradie james is serious when he’s on the playing field and he is equally serious about breast cancer. In 2007 the professional football player founded an organization, Foundation 56,, to focus on breast cancer awareness and survival. Named after his number when he was a member of the Dallas Cowboys, the foundation is a tribute to his mother, who died of breast cancer. “I wanted to be a part of our community,” he explained, as he talked about his mother’s battle with cancer. “I have something that is so near and dear to me, because my mother dealt with it.” In addition to a number of ongoing programs, most recently Mr. James partnered with hip hop sensation and 1/3 third of the legendary female rap group Salt N Pepa’s, Spinderella, to raise funds for the charity. Whether its a fashion show, Zumba Lessons or visiting survivors, Mr. James’ Foundation is making big strides in Texas and joining with others to make a difference. “I am so excited that Spinderella is getting involved and partnering with our organization,” he said, during a recent interview where he talked about the fashion show fundraiser where Spinderella, who is also a radio personality, performed. “It is great to see people come together for a common goal.” Driven by passion and purpose, Mr. James is committed because he still recalls his mother’s battle and subsequent death. “I am just a son showing love for his mother,” he said. “I have so much love for my mother that I don’t want anyone to suffer without information. We try our best to get out and do things that are purposeful and meaningful and not just for show. We want to create awareness.” Although he started the foundation when he was a member of the Dallas Cowboys, the Louisiana native and graduate of Louisiana State University has since moved to Houston where he plays for the Houston Texans. Expressing his love for Dallas, where the Foundation is based, Mr. James said it was important to keep the foundation going and also expanding activities to other cities. PAGE 12

!

Working with survivors has been very rewarding, he said, while also acknowledging that he often finds himself talking about personal topics with women. Not one to buckle under pressure, Mr. James said that he realizes that while he is talking about a sensitive subject, candid talks are just what is needed. “I try to meet the women where they are,” he said. “To talk about breast cancer is one thing. Women are drawn to me because of my mother and I speak to them as if I am talking to my mother.” Admittedly the first time he spoke to a group comprised mostly of women, he found the situation “ kinda surreal, because I could imagine if we had what we have today, if my mom had had it, we would have had a better understanding and she might still be here.” Mr. James appears to be on a mission as he spreads the word and encourages woman to do self examinations and when they reach a certain age, go for mammograms. He doesn’t want to hear excuse or long drawn-out explanations for not taking care of your health. There’s no getting around him either. He said that when he and his wife found out that his mother-in-law was not going for regular mammograms, he had to have a serious talk with her.

“We (he and his wife, Star) couldn’t believe it and we had a fairly candid chat,” he said, as he informed his mother-in-law that “whatever the reason, you will get tested!” The key is early detection,” he continued. “The push is on for women to start mammogram exams at 40.” Mr. James said he has noticed that people are becoming more conscious of self exams and the importance of getting checked out. Still there are obstacles that some women face and he wants to be a source of support. “Lack of insurance, tough economic times, and privacy are a few of the issues that arise when talking to women about taking care of their health. “I think everyone is so private, especially about their health,” he said, adding message he wants women and men to listen to, “When it comes to health--don’t worry about being invasive.” Since its inception the impact Foundation 56 has had is especially significant in South Louisiana and North Texas. Well over half a million dollars has been raised to contribute to funding mobile mammogram units, funding a resource center, proving transportation services to women in need of physical therapy, chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Anxiously awaiting his second child, Mr. James still finds time to devote to Foundation 56. And his work doesn’t stop there as he serves as a health ambassador with GlaxoSmithKline and works with at-risk youth through the Heroes Foundation. He has also opened a breast cancer resource center at Dallas’ Methodist Hospital. He wants women to understand that they have support and no matter how uncomfortable the process is, it is important for their survival. “There’s a consciousness that we have to tap into,” he pointed out, as he talked about understanding that the exams are not a pleasant experience. “You have to decide whether you want a couple of seconds of being uncomfortable or a lifetime of comfort with your family and loved ones.”

SPECIAL

Deborah says, “Personal health and wellness is a very serious matter, and we must actively participate in the decisions that affect how we feel. With the many serious (and some even deadly!) side effects of some prescription medications we must seek natural solutions where possible. We should all be looking for simple natural solutions to replace complex unnatural approaches. It is the goal of Something Natural...Aromatherapy to Enhance Everyday Living to provide a forum for making natural choices.”

Aromatherapy and Healing – Geranium Is Not Just A Pretty Flower Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to help the body heal itself. It has been used for thousands of years and is the basis for modern day pharmacology. Essential oils are the natural extracts obtained from aromatic plants. They have antiinflammatory, pain relieving, as well as anti-bacterial properties to name a few. It is widely recognized as an extremely effective form of complementary medicine, and is in no way intended to replace the treatment of a licensed medical practitioner. Essential oils are extremely potent, and should be used with care or under the direction of a certified Aromatherapist. A few drops of an essential oil go a long way. In almost every case, they should be diluted for use with a base, such as sweet almond, sesame, or apricot seed oils. When stored in a cool place away from light, essential oils remain effective for months, and in some cases – years. There are many essential oils that are especially useful in the maturing years. Geranium is one of the best. Circulation, particularly in the hands and feet, can be a problem for the aging. Blended with a base oil, it can be used as an effective body rub to improve circulation. Rub it from the hands to the elbow and from the foot to the knee. PAGE 13

!

Geranium is one of the best revitalizing oils for mature skin. It improves the texture of the skin making it firmer and smoother. It is good for broken capillaries, eczema, and heals bruises and skin abrasions. The same body rub for improving circulation can also be used over the entire body to tone the skin. Aromatherapy packs a double punch when used on the skin. It is easily absorbed through the skin, and the olfactory organ, or your sense of smell uses its aroma. The distinctive aroma of geranium has its own healing properties. It is a natural anti-depressant and lifts your spirits. Many side effects come with all of the prescription drugs available in today’s market. Synthetic chemicals have toxins that can damage major organs such as the liver, kidney, and heart. Aromatherapy is a tried-and-true method that is pure and natural. Essential oils do not remain in the body, and leave no toxins behind. The majesty of the plant world extends further than the eye can see. Geranium is one of those plants. It is not just a pretty flower. In our library New book claims to reveal what Democrats are hiding from African American voters

Tulsa, OK (BlackNews.com) -- With less than 30 days to the election, AfricanAmericans are a significant voting block that is necessary to either candidate in order to win. With the first black president up for reelection, has this become an election only about race or about principle and beliefs? According to Janice Ponds, author of Stealing the Minds of America, the Democrats pray it is on race alone and that the truth of their history will remain hidden. "I was shocked when I discovered that it was the Democrats who instituted the Dred Scott decision which declared my race, the black people, as non citizens," states Ponds. "The Democrats were also the ones who created the Jim Crow laws to deprive us of our voting and civil rights! These are historically documented facts. So why are we supporting the very party that has tried to silence us?" In her book, Ponds shares what she calls "fact after fact" that the Democrats Support Black -owned bookstores

hope to bury from the past, but it doesn't stop there. She comments, "I learned that the Ku Klux Klan was formed by the Democrats in an effort to prevent African-American leaders from being elected to political office after slavery was abolished and that Planned Parenthood, which was created by Margaret Sanger, was started NOT to help women, but for what was called "The Negro Project". Of the project, Sanger made the statement, 'colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated.' Sanger has been successful in her quest." said Ponds, "as 45% of abortions in America are on black babies and our race has decreased from 13% of the population to

history in a straightforward uncompromising manner abandoned in recent years. Knowing who we were in the past affects who we are today, and how we behave in the future. All who want to live their lives by God's standards will benefit from Stealing the Minds of America." -- Dave Barton, Founder of WallBuilders, Inc. (named as one of the top 25 Evangelical Leaders in America by Time Magazine.)

New book debunks old myths; reveals dos and don'ts to finding/marrying "Mr. Right" --

12% since 1973..a number that will continue to decrease if nothing changes. We are being exterminated by the very party that states they are for us, but are they really?" In Stealing the Minds of America: The Obama Administration - bonus chapters, Ponds debunks the theory that the Democrats have changed from their early days. Instead, she provides ongoing information to show that while the Democrats court the black vote, she believes the love affair ends there. According to Ponds, her book is a must for all truth-seekers who vote. WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING: "When God records history in the Bible, He shows the good, the bad, and the ugly. God always presents the unvarnished truth, and Janice has faithfully followed the model in Stealing the Minds of America, presenting black

Chicago, IL (BlackNews.com) -- Over the past few years, several major media outlets have featured news stories about the crisis in Black marriage. One of the most staggering statistics those stories revealed is that a whopping 42% of Black women have never been married. So why are Black women having such a difficult time finding a mate and why does this problem seem to be as bad or worse among women in the church? "For the unmarried Christian woman, much of the problem has to do with what they've been taught in the church," says Pastor Ira J. Acree the author of In Pursuit of Mr. Right. Acree heads St. John Bible Church on Chicago's Westside and has counseled hundreds of couples and singles over the

years. Acree adds that much of the Bible has been mis-interpreted when it comes to whether women should even engage in the act of pursuing a man. He also says women must uphold certain rules of engagement during their search for "Mr. Right." "Too many women are trapped by tradition," says Acree. "They think that making the first move implies that you are desperate or less of a lady and that is simply not true," he adds. In the book, Acree goes on to give vivid examples of women icons from the bible that went after the men they wanted and got them. There are also some old school traditions however that Acree says women would be wise to adhere to if they want to find a lasting love. "Resist the urge to give up the goodies' to quickly because easy women rarely get chosen by kings,'' Acree quips. In Pursuit of Mr. Right combines biblical wisdom with real-world wit and honesty. "The goal is to help today's women stop making common yet massive mistakes

that keep them from finding, marrying and keeping their "Mr. Right," Acree said.
