Hillary Clinton
Donald Trump
The question of who should hold the highest office in our nation – and instantly become the most powerful person in the world – has transformed from one of who deserves this honor and can handle this responsibility to deciding who would be most likely to do the least damage. With just days before the election, I pray that the presidential candidates and the American people raise ourselves from this muck and focus instead on what is truly important—the policies that will drive our nation forward, or mire us in stagnation. Instead of discussing who is more hateful and who can be nastier, let’s discuss how to boost the economy. Let’s hear serious discussions about healthcare, trade and foreign policy. Instead of beating each other down, let’s discuss how we can all play a role in keeping America at the top. The future of our country, and of the entire world, depends upon it. Ironically, the second presidential debate fell squarely in the middle of the High Holidays, the holiest time of the year for our Jewish brothers and sisters. During this period, between Rosh Hashanah
(the Jewish new year) and Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), the Jewish people embark on a process called teshuva, where they recognize their past mistakes and make amends for anything they have done wrong during the past year. Most importantly, they promise to try to be better in the future. We should all try to be better in the year ahead. Let’s elevate our rhetoric. Instead of concentrating on our differences, let’s focus instead on our commonalities. Believe it or not, we have some. Even Trump and Clinton agree on some issues. America is the greatest country in the world. We should not be rolling around in the gutter. We should not allow our rhetoric to devolve into foul language and rampant disrespect for fellow citizens. I continue to believe that the majority of the American people are honest, respectful and hardworking. They do not deserve to see the very people vying for the highest office in our land to be brawling and swearing and adopting a scorched earth approach to this election. A more dignified approach is in order and long overdue: one where the candidates share their thoughts and plans and philosophies. As Americans, we need to recognize the humanity in people who may share different thoughts about how to secure our future and ensure the best possible outcome for the generation to come. Our electoral decisions should not hinge upon name-calling or the leaking of scandals, but by whose policies we believe have the most merit. On November 8, we will elect a new president. That person will lead our country for the next four years. And regardless of the outcome of the election, we will have a peaceful transfer of power. That’s what this democracy does; and America is a shining example for the world. Regardless of what happens at the polls, we will need to come together, find some common ground and restore some level of decorum to our politics. HALL: I’m With Her…Again!
Quit Playin’ By Vincent Hall The thematic thread in penning my opinions over the past 13 years has been a tireless attempt at transparency. I cannot suffer the loss of the six or so loyal readers that I claim because I come off as disingenuous or phony. I rendered this confidential email and rather than be outted by Putin et al, I decided to publish it. Transparency will have a whole new appearance in the new vistas of cyberspace that we are about to embark upon. So on the eve of the most consequential election of my generation, let me be plain; I’m for her! Hell, I was actually for Hillary Rodham Clinton eight years ago before the Brother with the big ears showed up. Dearest Comrade, “I’m with her” for a few reasons, but the weightiest of them is because Hillary Clinton should be the 45th President
and the first to swear the solemn oath without ever donning a pair of boxers or briefs. To put it bluntly, I am tired of the White and male domination of America’s professional, professorial and political landscape. I have three daughters and never petitioned the Lord for sons. Donald Trump, in all of his blithering splendor evinces my argument against the succession of mixed nuts (no pun intended) that hold sway and rank over all three branches of our government. In his December 10, 2015 piece, my man, my role model, my “Nicca”; Dr. Michael Eric Dyson proffered a great editorial; “Hillary’s White Privilege will make her a better President for Black America.” If you aren’t convinced that “White privilege” makes a difference, ask yourself if Barack Obama can casually pop a Tic Tac, grab any ass he wants and brag about it on tape. Only a rich White male could be so openly racist, misogynistic,
and unapologetically ignorant and expect to win the nomination of his party and this presidency. DJ Trump asserted himself the only pimp in the GOP’s “ho” game and nobody challenges him. Anyway…here’s what the HuffPost reported. “In “Yes she Can”, Dyson’s latest piece for The New Republic, the Georgetown professor details Clinton’s journey on racial issues and predicts that, despite her husband’s problematic legacy on race — exemplified by his crime and welfare reform policies — Clinton will have the chance to push change in ways that eluded Obama. Dyson argued that Clinton, free from the stigma of blackness and the potential for perceived bias, would be able to speak more freely on issues of race than Obama ever could. “She won’t have to make apologies in advance, a priori, [and say], ‘It’s not about black people...’” Dyson said. “Hillary Clinton doesn’t bear that guilt, doesn’t bear that consciousness, doesn’t bear that
5
kind of charge to be made: ‘Hey, you’re trying to hook up your people!’ Well, black people are not her people, but she’s able, as a result of white privilege, to speak to the interests of black people in ways that were denied to Barack Obama.” I would go further than Dyson to conjecture that Mrs. Clinton would be of similar benefit to all non-WASPs. But even if she doesn’t get a bill passed, at least girls and young women of every hue and hairstyle will have the boundaries of their dreams enlarged. As someone who has been fortunate enough to get halfway up the corporate ladder in a Fortune 100 company, let me assure you that no woman; no matter how smart, how significant or how “well-endowed”, gets to the top without being head and shoulders above her male counterparts. There are some women and men who have slept their way toward success, but there is a ceiling for that form of cunning and upward mobility. Hillary Rodham-Clinton is the consummate woman, mother and political scientist and I’m with her…Period. But you make your own choice!
MALVEAUX: President Obama’s last 100 days The Last Word By Dr. Julianne Malveaux
NNPA Newswire Columnist
The countdown to President Obama’s last one hundred days began on October 13. Already, the President has committed to spending his waning days in office by campaigning for Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for President. Indeed, he has put his legacy on the line, telling Black people at a his last Congressional Black Caucus dinner that he will be personally insulted if folks don’t get out to vote for Hillary. Instead of staking his legacy, however, President Obama might be better advised to improve his legacy by taking bold actions in these last days of his presidency.
What might he do to positively affect the African Americans he far too frequently scolds? For one thing, he might step up the pace of the pardons and sentence commutations for nonviolent drug offenders, who are disproportionately African American. In 2011, then-Attorney General Eric Holder said there were as many as 10,000 federal drug offenders that could be released. While President Obama has offered pardons and commutations, only a fraction of those whose sentences could be commuted have been. For whatever reason, the Department of Justice has moved at a snail’s pace with commutations. President Obama could direct Attorney General Loretta Lynch to
bring more pardon applications to his desk. He would make a tremendous impact if the number of nonviolent drug offenders with sentences pardoned or commuted were closer to 10,000 than 1000. President Obama might also consider a posthumous pardon for Marcus Garvey, the Jamaican-born activist and founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). At its peak, UNIA had millions of members in 1100 chapters in 40 countries. Garvey was wrongfully convicted of mail fraud and deported from the United States in 1923. Garvey was really only guilty of loving Black people and organizing us. President Obama could lift up an organizer, correct a
historical wrong, and signal that he is not as indifferent to Black people as he sometimes seems. Such a small gesture would go a long way toward contributing to his legacy. The President might also consider the Institute for the Black World request that he appoint a John Hope Franklin Commission on Reparations. He could do this by executive order, and the commission could potentially hold a couple of hearings in the month after the November election. This would be a small gesture, but it would go a long way toward continuing an important conversation about the origins of our nation’s wealth gap. President Obama could also use the Executive Order to direct unspent Department of Education funds to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). What if he Please see PRESIDENT, page 7

The President made important points in his recent visit to North Carolina A&T State University at a gathering hosted by ESPN’s The Undefeated, and led by anchor Stan Verrett. He could combine talk with action by aggressively addressing HBCU issues as his term winds down, making amends for the ways his administration treated
HBCUs earlier. President Obama has lots of unfinished domestic and foreign policy matters, and there will be numerous demands, in these last 100 days, for him to address all manner of matters. It is more likely, however, that they will continue their obstruction to anything President Obama proposes. Still, President Obama has the power to do more both symbolically and substantively in these last
days of his Presidency. I’d urge him to consider some of the things he can do to address the African American community that has steadfastly supported him, even when he has not been so supportive of us. My trifling son Ask Alma: by Alma Gill
NNPA News Wire Columnist
Alma Gill’s newsroom experience spans more than 25 years, including various roles at USA Today, Newsday and the Washington Post. Email questions to: alwaysaskalma@gmail.com. Follow her on Facebook at “Ask Alma” and Twitter @almaaskalma.
Dear Alma: I need your advice. I love my son with all my heart. He’s been a good son and never gave us any problems. He and his girlfriend have lived together for the past five years and they have two children together. They just recently separated and he said it was his choice. He says he should have experienced more in life before settling down with a family. I want to be here to support him in any way that I can. I love my grandchildren and would do anything in the world for them. Here’s my problem: for over three months, on my son’s visitation weekends he brings his girls over and drops them off with me. I don’t want to come off like an ungrateful grandmother, but I don’t think this is right. I think he should spend time with them, especially since they don’t live together anymore. What do you think, Alma, am I blowing things out of proportion? Signed, One Concerned Grandmother Dear Concerned, Look Grammy, there’s one thing I know for sure and that’s every woman knows her child. I think you feel like your son is taking advantage of you, and I agree, he is. Clearly, his weekend plans do not include his children. A mother’s intuition is better than any radar detector, GPS or Google map app. We know what we know. So what you gonna do about it?
Bringing this to his attention, Me-ma, may not convey the truth you seek. You and I both know he’ll deny these actions and accuse you of not wanting to spend quality time with your grands. This is not the case I’m sure, but manipulators are all the same, it’s only the names that change. The truth of the matter is, he drops off the kids to you because you let him. So again I ask, what you gonna do about it? Your question is about him, but my answer is about you. It’s time that you deal with your grown up son like the man and father that he is and stop worrying about hurting his feelings. He survived not getting his way when he was five and he will now. The next time he comes by with the children, tell him you’re a busy “Glam-Ma” and you’re heading out. Nope, the kids can’t join you. Do this two or three times, because you need to build up your confidence and not feel guilty about your actions. Stop allowing your son to take advantage of you and disappoint his kids. Real life isn’t like a monopoly game, there are “No get out of jail” or responsibility free cards to be won. Your grandchildren are to be loved, cherished and enjoyed at your convenience and availability, just like everyone else in your life. This situation isn’t about you, it’s about your son and his accountability as a father. Alma

You can impact your neighborhood, community and districts.” A wife, mother singer, actress and director, Ms. Fields will add another title to her name next year when she releases her book, tentatively titled, “Blessed Life.” Listen to full interview at https://t.co/GuIdRP3WSs. #BlogTalkRadio Get your tickets by calling 214-743-2400.

Mrs. Jackson’s cousin died from breast cancer. “This is a great opportunity for young ladies and men to understand the impact and consequences of this disease that affects one in eight women born in the U.S. The sooner we make them aware, the better.” Mrs. Jackson said. “What better way than through artistic expression”, she added. In MEMORIAM Pastor Charles Frank Lightner
MISSING Two Women One Man 10 Years Later
Taalibah Islam and Typhenie Johnson are missing and dated the same man, Chris Revill. According to reports, they were both last seen with Chris in Tarrant County. Revill is awaiting trial for kidnapping Johnson. Where are these young ladies? Help find them!
Do you know this man? Come on PEOPLE! Don’t you CARE? Will it matter when it is your sister, mother, aunt or grandmother or maybe YOU?
The Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Pastor Charles Frank Lightner was held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Saintsville Sanctuary COGIC, 2200 S. Marsalis Ave. Pastor Lightner was born on 7/16/1944 to Benjamin Franklin Lightner and Callie Watkins in Italy, Tx. At an early age, he moved to Dallas, Tx and received his education in the Dallas ISD. From a child, it was evident that he was destined to be a leader. He was blessed to start his own trucking business landing various contracts throughout the city. Over 55 years ago, he responded to his inevitable call from God and began preaching the uncompromising gospel at the tender age of 16 years old. In 1974, God elevated him to become, the humble founder and shepherd of New Comforter COGIC in Dallas, Tx. Pastor Lightner was most proud to be a SERVANT to God, his church, family, and community. In 2001, under Pastor Lighnter and his beloved, late wife, Lady Margie
Lightner's leadership, the church purchased six acres of land and founded the Cedar Oaks Retirement Center which allowed the community's most valuable citizens the comfort, pleasure, and security which they had given to families and communities for most of their lives. In 2012, under his leadership the Cedar Oaks Child Development Center and New Comforter COGIC's Non-Profit Commercial Food Bank which has been blessed to provide for over 4,500 families throughout the DFW metroplex, was also founded. Pastor Lightner was a visionary with a kingdom mindset. Pastor Lightner had a love for vintage cars and his guitar. On 10/20/2016, after 72 years, Pastor Charles F. Lightner boarded the "Old Ship of Zion" bound for Glory and joined his beloved, late wife of 50 years, Margie Lightner. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, 1 daughter, 3 sons, 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, New Comforter COGIC family, and a host of other relatives and friends.
POLICE have not apprehended “Pookie” the serial rapist. We know he has attacked members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and there is a $5,000 reward offered by Crime Stoppers. If you have ANY information, PLEASE call Crime Stoppers
