How does your communication make YOU unique? At school: Used ASL with all my friends and teachers in high school. If there were meetings with hearing people then I used an interpreter. Now in college use an interpreter for all classes. At home: Limited sign, gestures, writing messages on our phones With your friends: Some of my friends sign and some don't. The ones that don't sign‐ we text, write, do a lot of gesturing.


How do your values influence your choices? 1. I value my family so I choose to spend a lot of time with them. 2. Having close friends is something I value. 3. I value being Deaf and using American Sign Language. 4. I value hard work and practice‐ that will help me be a good coach someday. 5. I value honesty and respect. I try to be honest and respectful in everything I do. How does your personality influence your decisions about the future? 1. I am outgoing and friendly. This will help me be a good coach. 2. I like to help other people. I wouldn't like a job where I could not help people. 3. I am a natural leader. I need to work on being a better team player sometimes.

I work hard to make better choices because I want to set a good example. 3. I value my family. They help make me who I am. I try to always treat them with love. 4. I value creativity. I think this will help me be a good beautician. 5. I value my education. I didn't understand how important it was before, but now know how important it is to learn from others. How does your communication make YOU unique? At school: I use interpreters at school because I use ASL and don't use my voice. At home: My foster parents are learning sign language but for now we gesture and type back and forth With your friends: We use ASL.


How do your values influence your choices? 1. Is having fun a value? I like to have fun and laugh. 2. I like to act and entertain other people. Making other people laugh is something I value. 3. I am learning to value family. I never knew what family meant until I met my foster parents. They are teaching me it is important to have people you can depend on. 4. I value working with other people. This will help me when I become an actor or director some day and have to work with many different people.

How does your personality influence your decisions about the future? 1. I have a LOT of energy and am always on the move. This is a great fit for an actor or director. 2. I like to go with the flow. This is important because acting/directing will require me to get used to change. 3. I am persistent. I never give up even when people tell me I can't do something. How does your communication make YOU unique? At school: I use an interpreter. I have Ushers so am losing bits of my hearing and vision. I go to a school where there are other Deaf and Deafblind students as well. I have a notetaker too.


At home: My parents and use signing. I have a little hearing left so they can yell for me to get my attention. With your friends: Tactile signing ( I am still learning!) or I can use other assistive technology. How do your values influence your choices? 1. I value experience. Every experience gives me an opportunity to learn more about myself and others. 2. I am hard of hearing and losing my vision. I value learning ways to communicate so I won't feel disconnected from the world when I can no longer hear or see. 3. I am very independent. I value making my own decisions and working hard to reach my goals. 4. Creativity, acting, and activism are important parts of who I am. I value those traits and want to keep working on them so I can be the best ME possible. How does your personality influence your decisions about the future? 1. I am motivated to succeed. People have always told me I CAN'T, but I know I CAN. 2. Losing both my hearing and vision is making me more sensitive to other people and their life experiences.
