There are many forms of textile art, most of which have their origins in traditional handcrafts such as weaving, sewing, and knitting. Many of these handcrafts were created almost exclusively by women, and are often thought of as craft rather than art. Contemporary textile artists challenge these assumptions by presenting textiles in new ways. This artwork takes the traditional handcraft of crochet to create a large scale installation piece. The long crocheted funnels of this artwork mimic the dangling roots of the fig trees.
