HOW TO HIT BETTER IRON SHOTS

DO YOU OFTEN FIND YOURSELF HITTING THE FAIRWAY, SETTING UP A PERFECT SHOT TO THE GREEN, AND THEN MISSING THE MARK WITH YOUR IRON SHOT? HERE ARE THREE SIMPLE STEPS TO HELP YOU MAKE CRISP CONTACT EVERY TIME.

Step 1: Use your body, not your hands. To achieve strong and crisp contact, learn to turn using your big muscle groups, such as your legs and chest. This allows you to create more time, compression, and power. Relying solely on your hands to control the club requires perfect timing every time, which can lead to inconsistency.

Step 2: Pay attention to your ball position. Recognise where your club makes contact with the ground. For most players, the ball is struck better when positioned forward of centre in relation to their feet. This allows you to hit through the ball towards your target.

Step 3: Finish with your weight on your lead leg. At the end of your shot, your follow-through should leave you holding 90% to 100% of your weight on your lead leg. This means you’ve transferred your weight through the strike, putting the most amount of force into the ball as possible. With a little effort and dedication, you can start hitting better iron shots and taking your game to the next level.

Happy golfing
