EN2 - Mincepies Project

Page 1

At Selly Oak Nursery, we encourage children to think about making or creating things to raise some money. We talked to the children about how we celebrate Christmas and what we could do to raise funds for our school. With adult support, we came up with the excellent idea of making mince pies and selling them to the children’s families after our Christmas Performance. Here are some of the photos taken during this project.

To start off with the children required some money to purchase the ingredients to make the mince pies. In these photos you will see that they are handling the money, counting it and putting it in their purses.

Once the children had collected the money, they sat down and explored the different coins and notes and tried to identify the numbers and (with adult support) the value.

Now that the children had the money, they needed to go shopping for the ingredients to make the mince pies.

After the children had purchased the ingredients they went back to the Nursery to make the mince pies.

The children had lots of fun measuring the ingredients, mixing them all together to make their pastry. They enjoyed rolling out the pastry, using the cutters, to cut out circles and adding the fruit mince to create their pies. Here is a photograph of the final product ready to sell to the children’s families.

Now that the mince pies were cooked and ready to eat, the children were very excited to sell them to their families. After the children’s Christmas Performance, the mince pies were sold to the parents. Here are some of the photographs
