SOUL ARCH PL E T T E N BE RG BAY, GA R DE N ROU T E
Eat Sleep Play
The owners were inspired by an Australian wooden beach house which has a new vernacular feel of lightweight wood and gabions. Recycled timber, reclaimed doors and windows, an indigenous garden are the wonderful textural elements that are beautifully represented here. Combined with balau decks, bright Madagascan prints, big full moon lights, the house is carefully designed to eat, sleep, play, a perfect hideaway in the heart of Plettenberg Bay a stones throw from the most gorgeous local beach and views over the vlei.
When we visited, the temperatures were in the 30’s and we surfed and surfed away from the main hub of Plett and close enough to enjoy the bustle. The legendary 70’s surfer Gerry Lopez’s surf moves ‘soul arch’, is who the house is aptly named after. There are three bedrooms, two double beds and one childrens bedroom where they will be delighted as it is a stack of three wooden bunk beds to climb! The living area is full of cushions and the kitchen is modern and compact. Dining areas al fresco and inside near the pool. The house has a wonderful warm, relaxed feeling ideal to spend an energising holiday creating feasts for lots of friends, sleep ins, swimming, chilling and of course practicing the soul arch’s surf moves!
