FRANSCHHOEK, CAPE WINELANDS
The Franschhoek Farmhouse is a private villa, an hour’s drive from Cape Town, which channels a luxury London flat, transported to the eye- wateringly beautiful Franschhoek Valley and figged out with plush fabrics – lush toiles, chintzes and linens — in shades of soft celadons and mustards. The house exudes the sweet aroma of well-being from big fireplaces in the lounge, to heated floors and aircons, plus a kitchen with a full batterie de cuisine with its signature collection of copper pans. The creative owners have set their stall out with emphasis on their own favourite pieces of South African art, including paintings by Neil Rodger, Gregoire Boonzaier, Edward Wolfe and sculptor Dylan Lewis, plus a marvelously eclectic mix of Victorian, Cape Dutch and Georgian objects d’art and furniture. At The Franschhoek Farmhouse comfort is the byline and its owners have thoughtfully lavished their own extensive experience of toney destinations into the expensive mix.
