ces 2015

CES 2015 comes to an end today, and this year the conference was nothing short of spectacular. On the show floor, attendees witnessed everything from self-driving cars and autonomous drones to multi-tasking washing machines and robots playing beer pong. Here are highlights and learnings from CES 2015 - and what it means for consumers:

A SAFER &

Healthier WORLD

Many of the emerging technologies we were privy to this week focused around consumer safety. BMW has smarter headlights that allow drivers to spot unexpected changes on the road. Samsung’s Smart Sensors help alert parents when their children are home from school. Intel has technology that can open doors using facial recognition. Wearables are everywhere and they aren’t just helping consumers stay connected on-the-go, they are helping us stay healthy and achieve fitness goals. We saw wearables that tracked vital signs, sleep patterns and fitness activity. Wearable technology can even alert you if you have been sitting on the couch too long. The data available from wearables is influencing the way athletes train and consumers’ lifestyle choices.

improving

everyday life

Advancements in tech are allowing consumers to connect and control everyday home appliances in new and surprising ways: This year, brands like Samsung and LG displayed a plethora of smart home products that will change how we interact with home appliances. Nest is creating a smart “ecosystem of household products that connect and interact with each other. Smart home products will enable home owners to securely control appliances like thermostats, smoke detectors and plumbing from outside of the home. Intel showcased its Realsense technology, which allows a drone to autonomously change its course based on obstacles appearing in real-time. This technology was also built into a jacket, allowing the wearer to feel when people are close or surrounding objects are moving quickly. This will help people who are blind or have poor eyesight get a sense of their surroundings in a whole new way.

the always

connected consumer

If we have learned anything from CES 2015, it’s that technology will not only continue to be a part of everyday life, but advancements and new capabilities are reshaping the industry. We are moving into an always connected world, powered by wireless connectivity. The Internet of Things is a reflection of how advancements in the tech industry are changing our everyday lives. It seems all products are becoming, or have the capability to become, smart and interconnected. As the technology showcased at CES this week becomes more mature and mainstream, it will be interesting to see the full implications these advancements will bring.
