My Experience

UNLESS I HAD CUT MYSELF!

I have experienced this type of ignorance. I was supposedly under the watchful eye of the CPFT. I had been put on a anti-psychotic medication due to a period of 3 months psychosis in 2013. Interestingly, the psychosis was triggered by an Internet Troll. I had already seriously self harmed in the past, including taking a razor blade to my own throat with the intention of dying.

I haven’t had an incident since however, Training is obviously very much needed in the area of Mental Health.

Most of the time, we sufferers of BPD’s live among society and you couldn’t tell the difference. We simply have ‘times’ when we need to be solitary (which isn’t a good thing in my experience), or we tend to withdraw and remain out of sight. What are you going to do for them? If there is no money – I don’t believe this for one second – it doesn’t justify a shrug of the shoulders and the brush off for millions living in misery. It’s 2018, yet we’re not even close to parity between physical and mental health treatment. When funding is cut, it is mental health that falls by the wayside. A broken thumb doesn’t come close to the seriousness of a broken mind, but guess which one I’ll be treated for first. People suffering from mental health problems generally don’t know where to turn – they don’t know the process, or trust that they will be taken seriously or listened to. With services so severely underfunded, people are forced to turn away from the system and allow their illnesses to manifest into something serious until it reaches crisis point, putting even more

pressure on the NHS. The current idea of leaving people to the point of crisis is nonsensical – treating an individual at the inception of their problems could reduce the risk of hospital admissions, medication, serious intervention, police involvement, surgery after a suicide attempt and many other, costly, treatments. Why is so hard to provide people in need with basic talking therapy, to avoid them reaching crisis point? It doesn’t make economic or moral sense.

There simply has to be a focus on grassroots interception, preventing illnesses from becoming more serious. We have to make routes to help clear and common knowledge. People need to know where to turn, whether for themselves or a loved one.

Our Opinion Alcoholism and Drug Addiction are both Mental Health issue. No matter how serious these issues can be, watching people to see if they laugh during a period of pain, is very therapeutic. It isn’t careless or care free. This man is distraught and until he heals the wound or trauma that began the process of becoming an addict, the NHS will ONLY put ‘plasters’ on. The road to recovery, some will tell you is Long and Hard. It IS NOT! You just have to alter your perception. Some people are alcoholics and don’t yet realise it, until they decide to stop drinking for a week, and trust me who has been there many times, and they become VERY ill. To stop immediately is very much frowned upon by any

My history is no secret, but it doesn’t look good on paper! I use my experiences as the back bone of my career because I couldn’t have gone through all I have and not be a “Failure -Guru”. Thousands of them. I became an expert in Public Speaking (well I was born with that gift), I trained to become a Master in Communication, and I can confidently say that my Sales ability is up there with the best communicators in the world. I’m stating a fact, not to impress you but to impress upon you that these ‘gifts’ I will pass on to you. I got my P.T.L.L.S and K.T.L.L.S (petals and kettles) qualifications to become a professional Teacher and Teacher-Trainer. I trained in NLP and my next one, in May, will be ‘Mindfulness’ with the amazing Sara Collins...an 8 week course for £200!

I have also trained in ‘energy-based’ complementary therapies. My next challenge will be a degree in psychology and that seems daunting from this perspective looking up at a huge mountain...but, when you get up there and look down, you will wonder

what all the fuss was about and your perception changes, making life easier. So the ‘trick’ is to learn how to change your perception whilst at the beginning looking up at this massive mountain. That way everything becomes a pleasurable experience and easy to master because it’s fun and you can do anything if it is achievable.

Then you need to find out which is the best way for you to learn. My methods are a little bit “Throw them in at the deep end” because I am always there and watchful. I take my clients level of ability very seriously. It is essential to the individuals success. If they do not become a ‘successful outcome’...then I have failed. That can’t happen this far into my career. So, what is my career? Well, internet trolls helped me learn three things… 

Perceive them as teachers, sent to help you become stronger and able to deal with the people that will always pop up to keep you on your toes.



Self Control. They give you the strength to walk away. I discovered where my worst ‘troll’ lived. I would never do anything to harm anyone, of course, but having the chance to make the right decision


and walk away, turn the cheek and not seek ‘revenge’ makes a man out of a boy and a woman from a girl. 

Always triple check what you are doing and ensure you are doing it properly. Under promise, over deliver. Go the extra mile. Contribute instead of always taking. Change your mindset into a ‘Living is Giving’ attitude, doing random acts of kindness and don’t go against your conscience. Be kind. Many of these ‘trolls’ have mental health issues themselves.

So I decided to get rid of my paranoia

and become transparent about my past, using my knowledge to turn it into something of great value. I really desired to be able to help those that think they have no help. Turning an addicts life around is saving a life. If I didn’t share my knowledge, now, I’d be doing the opposite of saving lives. I went through what I did so I could understand my students thoroughly as their Teacher. Now we have wonderful ‘packed out’ seminar events, we enjoy other Teacher’s packed out events, and promote The Adam Plan. Founding of the WHO The World Health Organization is the successor to the Health Organization of the League of Nations, which was formed in 1921, after World War I. In 1945, after World War II, the United Nations was formed. The

need for a global permanent organization devoted to health became evident. A constitution about health was written, and the WHO was founded on April 7, 1948, as a specialized agency of the United Nations. Now, every April 7th is celebrated as World Health Day. Structure of the WHO More than 8000 people work for the WHO’s many offices around the world. The WHO is led by several boards. The World Health Assembly, composed of representatives from all member countries, is the supreme decision making body of the WHO. Every May, they approve the organization’s budget and its main priorities and research for the year. The Executive Board is composed of 34 people, primarily doctors, who advise the Assembly. The Secretariat is composed of thousands of additional medical and economic experts. The WHO is also supervised by a Director-General, who is


elected every five years.

Geography of the WHO The World Health Organization is currently composed of 193 members, of which 191 are independent countries and members of the United Nations. The other two members are the Cook Islands and Niue, which are territories of New Zealand. Interestingly, Liechtenstein is not a member of the WHO. In order to facilitate administration, WHO members are divided into six regions, each with its own “regional office” - Africa, (Brazzaville, Congo) Europe (Copenhagen, Denmark), Southeast Asia (New Delhi, India), the Americas (Washington, DC, USA), the Eastern Mediterranean (Cairo, Egypt), and the Western Pacific (Manila, Philippines). The WHO investigates and treats many people who suffer from polio, HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, pneumonia, influenza, measles, cancer, and other diseases. The WHO has vaccinated millions of people against preventable diseases. The WHO achieved tremendous success when it treated and vaccinated millions against smallpox and declared that scourge eradicated from the world in 1980. In the last decade, the WHO worked to identify the cause of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) in 2002 and the H1N1 virus in 2009. The WHO provides antibiotics and other medications and medical supplies. Here are four small favours that those who don't hate themselves can do for those of us who do. When two people with low self-esteem are together, many things are mutually, intuitively understood, even if we've never openly discussed our self-esteem. For instance, if anything goes even slightly wrong, we both know we're instantly, viciously blaming ourselves. And we'll probably try to soothe each other — because, sensing our shared insecurities, we want to ease each other's pain: Admittedly, this is partly because we each think we deserve to suffer most, but partly also because we are uniquely hyper-aware of pain.

And we who tend to hate ourselves will help each other out with tiny, mutually understood favors such as not asking Why do you always order the same ice-cream flavor? or offering reality checks such as This lesson is really confusing or The server with the ponytail seems mean. But when we are with people who don't hate themselves, we do things they don't understand. This is because we think and feel things they don't.

Those of us who are on the healing path know what a long, hard, landmine-larded road it is. So while we're on it, here are four small favors that those who don't hate themselves can do for us. I'm not asking you to work magic or act like saints. Nor am I asking you to be our therapists — unless by chance you are, and that's your job, for which we're paying you. I know we can be

1. Forgive us. Not for having low selfesteem, which is no more our fault than having freckles or asthma, but for all those countless things we're constantly apologizing about. Reflexive apology — bleating I'm sorry! as often as other people blink — is yet another side effect of self-loathing, because some of us were told too often and/or too terrifyingly that every bad thing from earthquakes to spilled milk to Mommy's illness was our fault. Now we apologize when rain falls on parades or strangers trample on our toes. When you hear us do this, tell us "No problem" or "That's OK" or even "It's not your fault."

3. Choose for us. Harsh and heartless as this sounds, every now and then we need you to just make certain simple decisions for us — which sweater to wear, which sandwich to order — and be done with it. That's because being asked to choose from a range of options, especially in public or when our choice might affect others, triggers some of us into mute paralysis. That's because we were told somewhere back there that we always spoiled everything, that we were stupid, selfish or incompetent. Our actions were constantly questioned, penalized or mocked. So now, asked to choose between egg salad and pastrami, we panic: not just because thanks to our past history we are afraid to choose but also because we are so ashamed of being seen this way, appearing (we think) infantile and helpless. Yes, we need to learn decision-making skills: at least, at first, in private and alone. Until then, lend us some relief: Either flat-out decide for us or gently help us choose.

2. Take us where we need to go. Most of us with low self-esteem have at least one activity, location, situation, person or object that makes us hate ourselves less. Setting aside perilous options such as self-harm, anorexia or drugs, which "raise" our self-esteem synthetically and/or addictively, does playing music make us feel more powerful? Relationships are hard. Romance fades, our best friends drive us crazy, and families (the holidays may especially remind us) are minefields just ready to go off over a late night game of Scrabble. Most of us are lucky enough to be free to leave these relationships: we can move away from home, let friendships fade, and get divorces. That freedom is wonderful and important, but it also means that we can avoid some of the most rewarding experiences of long-term relationships that survive our worst selves. Fortunately (and painfully), we are all born in to one relationship that we can never get away from, no matter how we try: our relationship with ourselves.

The choices we make about how we treat our bodies, what we do with our time, how we talk to ourselves, and who we spend time with matter—a lot. The world is a difficult place to live in, and sometimes the things we do to feel better in the moment—eat, drink, have sex, binge Netflix—can have longer term consequences when we stop using them for pleasure and start using them to escape our inner world. It’s natural to want to escape ourselves from time to time, and we all do it. Sometimes we do need to take a quick break from the voices in our heads. There’s nothing wrong with that—until we go past the point of pleasure and into numbness. This can work for a


while, but a joylessly numb life can get pretty boring, and even if the mind can take it, the body will often rebel against its neglect after a while.

I am sometimes grateful and sometimes really annoyed that I have a very sensitive physical body. If I don’t eat well, sleep enough, or give myself time to process difficult emotions, my body will find some way to let me know. I tried to drink and party my way through a major breakup once, and got slammed with a three-week flu with nothing to do but feel my feelings. Later, I was overdoing it at work, anxiously avoiding any quiet time by myself, and I got strep throat. Three times. The fourth time I tried to do that my back went out. I can lie well enough to my mind, at least for a while, but my body doesn’t tend to let me get away with it for very long. Pain is an excellent teacher because it forces us to change something.

So we acknowledge the pain. We let ourselves feel it. We explore its edges and see if it can teach us what needs to change. We can make small choices that are genuinely kind—not momentarily relieving, but genuinely loving— for our bodies, our minds, or our relationships. And when we don’t, when we slip back to our comforting escapes, we forgive ourselves and try again tomorrow.

So we have a choice: do the work of being in a loving, healthy, committed relationship with ourselves or suffer the rest of our lives with an internal roommate we hate. A lot of people choose the second option—it’s unquestionably easier. But over time, the body or the mind can rebel against its mistreatment and try to start to force us to work on this relationship. Either way, leaving isn’t an option.

It’s certainly not always easy to choose to turn love, presence, and compassion towards our own selves. But when we choose the path of loving commitment and turn it inwards, we end up meeting the truest, most lasting love of our lives.

Love is in the Air! Spring is a time of new beginnings. A time of growth and connection after the long dark winter months. The daffodils are giving a trumpet call to the bees to awaken from their hibernation and to come forward and pollinate. New buds are forming on the trees and blossom is unfurling in a riot of colour. It is a time when the natural world seeks out a mate. Love is indeed in the air! This got me thinking about the relationship that we have with ourselves. We are frequently very hard on ourselves. Our self-critic can often hold a

megaphone to our ear. Creating a hard and unwelcoming inner world. During the hard winter months when the ground is frozen nothing much grows. It is only when the gentle spring rain softens the ground and the spring sun warms the air does life and growth begin. A fundamental part of the mindfulness that I teach is the development of compassion. The Dali Lama defines compassion as sensitivity to the suffering of self and others, with a deep commitment to try and relive it. Most of us are very good at being kind and compassionate to others who then flourish in that warm attention. How-

Developing self-compassion involves learning to be caring to ourselves, sensitive to our distress, tolerant of our feelings, understanding and nonjudgemental. I am a great believer in the power and strength of kindness and compassion. If we look to the natural world nothing much grows in the harsh winter months. What is Mindfulness? Mindfulness is a word that you might have heard but what is it exactly? Well Mindfulness is a connected and natural way of being which is accessible to everyone, regardless of their faith or cultural background. To ignore these sensations would not take you to the vital interior of your being. To have successfully passed through them, in a conscious meditative practice between you and God, is the sweetest victory and sensation I have ever known. But it's not just the pain that one has to pass through. It is also that we must be in a state of complete perception. To feel

the air, to hear the sounds around us, to know and sense what is about to unfold, is all a part of meditation. Drugs of any form not only alter but also dampen our senses. It's like walking around with a pillowcase over your head—sleepy to the reality of life. Sure, who needs reality anyway, right? That is certainly an approach that is quite tempting to take. However, I am with the Buddha on this one. Take me in, let me go through the pain, in my own real self way, so that I can be the kind and beautiful person that I am, and live a life not only of no regrets, but one of service, love and joy. Motability Operations, which runs the powerchair, mobility scooter and WAV hire scheme on behalf of the Motability charity, has responded to criticism from the Charity Commission and MPs, who were said to be ‘outraged’ at an alleged £2.4bn cash surplus acquired by the Group and the £1.7m salary it pays its chief.

Both Labour and Tory ministers criticised the scheme after the figures were revealed, with one saying it should charge end-users less for vehicles and that it is “outrageous” that the directors are paid “11 times what the Prime Minister gets”.

But Motability Operations has responded to the claims reminding critics that the Group is a commercial body rather than a charity and does not come under the Charity Commission’s jurisdiction as charity law regulator. The Group released a statement and insisted the reported £2.4bn surplus is a necessary financial buffer. It also maintained that boss Mike Betts’ £1.7m salary is justified due to the scheme’s performance. Whilst there was no suggestion here that employing relatives is an issue in itself, the importance of paying a commercial rate for the work undertaken should be noted. The concept of ‘equal pay for equal value’ should help prevent a suggestion of dual purpose and thus, in turn, also help refute allegations of excessive payments to family members as a means of extracting monies from the business. Finally, wherever payments are made to a family member, legal issues such as the national minimum wage should also be borne in mind.
