Sunday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. Documentary film screening followed by a panel discussion. All of Albuquerque is invited to learn more about the food crisis, not just around the country, but right here in New Mexico. Showing at the Guild Cinema. This event is free and open to the public. Please bring cans of tuna to benefit the NM Foodbank Association.

1st Annual Hospitality Awards Breakfast February 2, 8am Hotel Cascada The Powdrell Family, owners of Mr. Powdrell's BBQ and the first black owned restaurant in Albuquerque will be presented with the Asante Award.Restaurateurs and hospitality industry professionals will gather at the Hotel Cascada to recognize and celebrate the contributions of black owned businesses in New Mexico.

Soul Food Cooking Class

Sunday, February 1 4-7pm, CNM RPM Building If you’ve always wanted to learn how to cook authentic soul food, here’s your chance to do it. You will prepare a 3 course meal and have a chance to sit down and eat it with your fellow classmates. Veteran Chef Peter Witter will walk you through step by step preparation instructions and you’ll go home with food and recipes. 4th Annual Cotton Club Gala

Arts and Culture Week February 9 - 15

Rainbow Studio Theater is back! Come out and see the Wiz Kidz in action in Respect Yourself: a musical in two acts that is based on the Tunisian proverb: “Respect Yourself and you will get it back”. Dr. Stevie Springer, now travelling between the 505 and 202 is back in the music director’s chair this year to work with these talented teens as they explore race, self-love and respect in music, spoken word and dance. Rujeko Dumbutshena is back on deck as choreographer. She is joined by local choreographers Donne Lewis and Shane Montoya. “There is nothing more magic than watching our youth excel and find greatness within themselves” says Cathryn McGill, Festival founder. “These young people are our future leaders and I couldn’t be more proud of their work and their commitment to use the arts to inspire and prompt us to do and be better.” See our calendar listings and visit the website to purchase tickets and find out more information about School Time and public performances.

Mind, Body and Soul Week explores the metaphysical connection of the trio STEM Festival/WorkItOut Day

Saturday, February 21 9a.m. Highland High School This fascinating interactive event will be filled with activities and speakers who will get your body and mind into shape! Information about scholarships and funding for college will be available, as well as hands on science and health exhibits. Speakers will include holistic health gurus, Dr. Ruby Lathon, a scientist turned holistic health practitioner, and Dr. Phyllis Hubbard. This event is free, open to the public and takes place at Highland High School Saturday, February 21, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided by one of our fabulous sponsors, the La Montanita Coop.

New Mexico’s Gospel Best Competition Sunday, February 22 3pm Hiland Theater Come experience the sound of an uplifting interfaith choir before the competition even gets started! Gospel singers from throughout the state will compete for the chance to win a grand prize and one lucky winner will be crowned New Mexico’s Gospel Best. Sunday, February 22 at the Hiland Theater, 3:00 p.m. Free event.
