New CafÊ Ledene now open DAILY from 9:00am Monday – Saturday and from 10:00am Sunday ALL WELCOME - Golfers and non-Golfers Hot and Cold Food and Drinks served daily in beautiful picturesque setting Tips from Your Local PGA Pro at Ledene Golf Centre Simplify Your Pitch Shot A common fault in a lot of golfers when playing a pitch shot is a tendency to use only one club eg (wedge or sand wedge) which is fine when you need the most lofted club in your bag to try and get the ball airborne over a hazard with it landing softly on the green, but if you try to vary your pitch shots around the greens with different shots by using the various clubs in your bag it will hopefully lead you to becoming more consistent. 1. Using a 7-8-9 iron which is a straighter face club than your wedges adopt the method you would use on your putting stoke by keeping the wrists firmer and positioning the ball towards the back of your stance with the body leaning slightly towards the target, making sure the back swing is controlled by the shoulders and arms, try to ensure your backswing is the same length as your follow through, this will also give you a better feel in how far the ball will travel with each different club. 2. Always try to visualise your pitch shots look were you want to land the ball and if there are contours on the green use them to your advantage by letting the ball roll with them. 3. A good point to remember is the quicker you get the ball rolling on the green the safer the shot will be. Which in turn will help you to become more confident and accurate with your pitch shots. 4. Finally always look to maintain your rhythm in your pitch shots do not get into the habit of swinging to far back then decelerate in the downswing thinking the ball only has a short distance to go, always try to maintain the same length of swing in the backswing and downswing enabling the club to flow at a good pace.

A Word From Your MP There are fewer more enjoyable ways to spend that rarest of phenomena - a sunny day in Spring - than going on a long walk through the South Staffordshire countryside. Usually, on these days - like many other people around the country - I am trapped in my office, responding to constituents’ correspondence and stuffing envelopes. However, last month, the Fates smiled on me and the sun was tentatively raising its head for a peak around as I donned my walking shoes, put on my casual trousers and joined a group of other local residents to ‘Beat the Bounds’ in Codsall. Beating the Bounds - for those of you that have not come across this quaint, local tradition - is an ancient custom of walking around the parish. It usually takes place in the lead up to the celebration of the Ascension (in late April or early May) and is traditionally led by the parish priest, who blesses the crops in the hope of bringing forth a good harvest. On this occasion, however, the parish priest was not available so they had to make do with me. Last year, was the first ‘Beating the Bounds’ to take place in Codsall in 78 years, with the previous one occurring in 1935. It was a big success and the event has now become an annual highlight in the community calendar. All members of the local community are invited to join in the traditional walk, either for just a section of the route or for the entire circuit. This year, our walking group left St. Nicholas Church, in Codsall, at approximately 9:30am in the morning. The route, which consisted primarily of public footpaths and rights of way, saw participants go through Bilbrook, Dam Mill, Wergs, Perton, Bradshaws Estate, Kingswood Common and Codsall Wood, before finishing in Codsall. I hope our efforts will be effective in producing a good harvest, this year. Either way, it was an extremely enjoyable event to take part in and I would particularly like to thank Stephen Skinner for organising the walk… and for giving us an excuse to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.
