PUBLISHER’S NOTE The Atlantan’s May issue is dedicated to celebrating the city’s most inspiring, young entrepreneurs under the age of 40 who are making waves in their respective industries. As we tell their intriguing stories, I am reminded of my family’s entrepreneurial start in Atlanta in 1945 when my great-grandparents George and Letty Mae Cagle (who were under 40 at the time) started Cagle’s Inc. on Edgewood Avenue. At the company’s height of success, Cagle’s Inc. produced and sold 400 million pounds of poultry a year, and I suspect most of you have tasted it at well-known fast food chains and grocery stores like Trader Joe’s! I’ve always strived to make them proud, as I am often compared to my fiery great-grandmother. In the pages that follow, we profile two similarly passionate women who are near and dear to my heart: Sarah Bonner, owner of Gigi’s Cupcakes, who was a past JEZEBEL Most Eligible (she’s taken now); and Gabrielle Mecca, president of Edge Design Group. Both ladies are as business-savvy and inspirational as they are beautiful! We also profile my friend and fitness guru Pavel Stuchlik, and other entrepreneur icons such as Intimacy CEO Lode Van Laere. Although this issue is all about business, May is certainly a special month for celebration in my family! Last summer, Cindy Widner Wall, PNC’s senior vice president/wealth director and event chair of the 2015 Dancing Stars of Atlanta gala benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association, asked me to raise money and perform as one of the “star” dancers. The support I’ve received from generous friends, family, clients and strangers has been incredible, and I’ll be forever grateful to all of you when I’m dancing my heart out May 2. In addition, don’t miss our issue release party for the premiere stand-alone edition of Interiors on May 14! I am very proud to toast my team’s hard work! Last but certainly not least, we’ll be celebrating my beautiful mother’s 60th birthday with a glamorous girls’night-out party. Suzanne Cagle, thank you for inspiring me on a daily basis. No matter where your inspiration comes from this month, I hope this issue motivates you to achieve greatness.

EDITOR’S NOTE
PHEBE WAHL EDITOR-IN-CHIEF pwahl@modernluxury.com
Satirist Jonathan Swift said that invention is the talent of youth and the judgment of age. Perhaps no group better personifies this sentiment than the group of talented entrepreneurs we have selected to highlight in this issue’s Under 40 feature. Innovators like Emily Golub of Garnish and Gather, Gabrielle Mecca of Edge Design Group, Pavel Stuchlik of Orangetheory Fitness and brothers Craig and Jeff Moore of the Old Fourth Distillery owe their successes to a wealth of talent. And the acumen of business leaders like Lode Van Laere of Intimacy, Sarah Bonner of Gigi’s Cupcakes and Mary Kathryn Wells of Buckhead Atlanta define them as leaders in their respective industries. Despite their youth, these trailblazers are among the best and the brightest in Atlanta. This issue is chock-full of talented individuals who are putting our Southern city on the map. Flip to our Look Who’s Talking section to read about Atlanta-bred artist Mark Boomershine, who debuts his Revealed series at the Frieze Art Fair in New York City this month. Or flip to our Arbiter profile of local ceramicist and Honeycomb Studio owner Courtney Hamill, who at a mere age of 32 has already had her pieces picked up by big brands like West Elm. All of these innovators are at the pinnacle of their professions thanks to hard work rather than the experience of age. Much like the subjects of our “Under 40” feature, they are breaking boundaries with their innovation and changing their industries in the process. This month marks The Atlantan’s ninth anniversary of bringing you trendsetting and trailblazing content. We are proud to have kept our ever-evolving magazine fresh over the years. In the words of George Burns, “Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.” Cheers to all the beautiful Atlantans profiled in this issue and to many more years of magnificence for our magazine!

Behind every face is a story “It’s b been nearly l 20 years since my late l parents, Jay and d Betty Van Andel, d l undertook d k an ambitious b mission to create a world-class biomedical research and science education organization. The organization is already changing the course of research, discovery and hope! “In a word, grateful!” That’s the best way to describe how David and Carol Van Andel feel. As a cancer survivor himself, David Van Andel, Chairman & CEO of Van Andel Institute, wants to stop diseases like cancer and Parkinson’s. The couple believes there is no time to wait; a sense of urgency is needed. Cancer alone kills some 570,000 Americans annually—the equivalent to a mid-sized city. They also believe that with your help, these diseases can be stopped. The Van Andels are telling their story and sharing the faces of many who are impacted by the incredible research of their scientists. Recently, they joined our community for a private Modern Luxury hosted event attended by an incredible group of scientists and philanthropists. Cobb Galleria Centre Talent was in full bloom as the doors opened on the Southeast’s largest indoor craft show, American Craft Council Atlanta, a three-day event held at the Cobb Galleria Centre. More than 200 vendors were on hand to showcase their handmade wares—from clothing and jewelry to furniture, home accessories, art and more. Photographer Erik S. Lesser was in attendance—with kids in tow, no less—to capture shots of the impressive array of offerings. “I’d been to the craft show in the past,” he explains, “and I was drawn to this piece from a visual standpoint.” This colorful necklace, according to its maker Danielle GoriMontanelli, featured thousands of handmade felt pencils that create a showstopping look surely worthy of a double-take. “Compositionally, I wanted to get a tight shot from a low angle to really accentuate the artwork,” Lesser adds. “There was so much beautiful art that’s wearable and usable. It was a nice colorful moment.” – Caroline Cox PHOTOGRAPHER 27 THE ATL ANTAN M AY 2015

MAKE A SPLASH Dive into summer with suits from newly opened Buckhead Atlanta boutique Vilebrequin. OPENING ACT
IN THE SWIM BUCKHEAD ATLANTA BOUTIQUE VILEBREQUIN MAKES A SPLASH JUST IN TIME FOR SWIM SEASON. By Phebe Wahl
St. Tropez, France-based luxury swimwear retailer Vilebrequin is making a splash this month with a brand-new boutique opening at Buckhead Atlanta. The first-to-market 1,096-squarefoot store will feature the brand’s new DUNE concept influenced by the brand’s extensive history in the Mediterranean. The store—dressed in summery hues, lighting designed to mimic the sun’s rays as well as changing rooms reminiscent of beach huts—will showcase the luxe label’s swimsuits for men,
women and children in its signature punchy prints that have been worn by the likes of notables including David Beckham and Jay Z to Prince William and the royal family of Monaco. Perhaps best known for the ubiquitous matching father-son swim trunks seen poolside at swanky spots ranging from Palm Beach’s The Breakers to Buckhead’s country clubs, the buzzy boutique is the spot to snatch up a set ($250 for men, $120 for boys) as the perfect gift for Dad’s Day. 262 Buckhead Ave., vilebrequin.com

But when our waistlines prove you can have too much of a good thing, that’s when we turn to French-trained, Atlanta-based chef and author Virginia Willis’ new cookbook, Lighten Up, Y’all: Classic Southern Recipes Made Healthy and Wholesome ($25, Ten Speed Press). The tome is full of easy-tomake iterations of beloved Southern dishes, including oven-fried chicken; bourbongrilled pork chops with peach barbecue sauce; and even old-fashioned buttermilk pie (no, really)—with healthier ingredients and more wholesome techniques that let you indulge in full flavors without the guilt. We can’t wait to dig in. Barnes & Noble, virginiawillis.com –Caroline Cox WHAT’S COOKING? Virginia Willis offers a healthy spin on Southern fare.

Your face is only the beginning
Myths about
Cosmetic Procedures Myth #1. Botox and Fillers will change my appearance. Botox and Fillers are actually a great way to keep the face youthful and refreshed without looking overdone. Starting a maintenance regimen early on can prolong or even prevent the need for a face lift in the future. The right injector should know the muscles of the face to be able to give you those nice subtle improvements without overfilling. Don’t be afraid to ask the doctor about their training and also to look at their before and after photos. After all it’s your face and it’s easier to add more later than to take away.
At Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery we offer true results with a subtle approach. Dr. Jarmuz is a leading injector and trainer of products like Sculptra and Restylane Silk. She, along with her highly trained team of providers go the extra mile to be your best kept secret. Theresa M. Jarmuz, MD

MY CITY
Portrait of the Artist
For Ross Rossin, an internationally renowned portrait artist who makes his home in Buckhead with his wife and two children, putting his stamp on Maya Angelou’s legacy has been a dream come true. “I always wanted to paint Maya, as she was a voice that inspired millions—not just as an individual, but as a legendary poet and a civil rights icon who transcended generations,” says the painter, whose hyper-realistic oil-oncanvas depiction of the late author hanging on view in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery was recently unveiled on a U.S. Postal Service commemorative Forever Stamp. Here, the Bulgaria native—whose portraits can be found in the private collections of legendary actor Morgan Freeman and Queen Elizabeth II of England—shares some of his favorite spots around Atlanta. –Wendy Bowman Treasure Hunt “We go to a lot of estate sales in our neighborhood. We also love Miami Circle (miamicircleshops.com)—it’s all about the character and the history of the objects.”
Family Style “We love to go to Stone Mountain Park (stonemountainpark.com). We climb the mountain and enjoy the views of the city. We love the city as it is, with greenery and atmosphere and the polite, caring people.”
Top Tables “I love all of the Buckhead Life Group Restaurants (buckheadrestaurants.com)— especially Bistro Niko and Chops Lobster Bar.”
Fit For A King “I love the Martin Luther King Jr. gallery at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights (civilandhumanrights. org)—looking at his letters and personal belongings and trying to get closer to him—because he is my ultimate hero; he is the person I admire the most, living or gone. The Center is where I bring family and visitors, but I love being in the King gallery by myself. The design is beautiful; it’s a place for reflection and meditation—spiritually, intellectually and emotionally.”

Most laws regarding how estates are handled are designed with a traditional nuclear family in mind – a husband, wife, and biological children. Today, however, fewer than half of all U.S. households meet this traditional definition. And that trend is likely to continue as same-sex marriage becomes legal in more and more states, and as divorce and remarriage remain common. New inheritance questions. It’s not simply about traditional versus non-traditional families. Rapid advances in reproductive technology are creating once unimaginable questions regarding inheritance rights. And this issue has given rise to a new legal territory: posthumous birth laws. How should children conceived with stored genetic material after the death of one or both of the genetic parents be treated regarding inheritance? A complicated topic, indeed. Consideration for pets. Furthermore, the concept of family for some extends to pets as well. A few states have even enacted estate planning laws regarding these four-legged family members. For instance, the growing demand of pet owners to be buried with their pets has
caused two states to permit this practice. While many states do not currently address this issue, that’s likely to change.

“We’ll have real estate

”
for our clients.
You are one of the top agents in the country-what separates you from everybody else in the industry? I have surrounded myself with the best in the business. We are values-driven and put the client first. I like to work hard and find it hard to stop—Probably one of my biggest challenges! One of our strengths is that we have effective systems in place to keep all the moving parts where they should be. I am out each day generating business, working with our clients and bringing deals together. Vice President, Hil Harper is alongside ensuring that all transactions have seamless transitions from listings to closings and each moving part that are in between. We have hired the best of the best from our closing coordinator, Leslie Martin, to marketing experts, website developers, photographers, and closing attorneys. Clients have expectations that have to be exceeded and we do everything we can do make that happen. I know that our unique position within the industry sets Ansley Atlanta apart from anybody else. Tell us about Ansley Atlanta Real Estate? Ansley Atlanta is a boutique luxury-focused, technology and marketing driven real estate group. We’re under the brokerage of Harry Norman Realtor’s flagship, which is the strongest local presence in Atlanta. Our affiliation with Christie’s International Real Estate gives us a global reach that my clients appreciate. My group has grown and we need space to accommodate that growth so I recently purchased a building to fulfill that need.
A new building is exciting—we’d love the details!
In your opinion, what makes Atlanta so special?
I recently purchased a 6000 square foot stand-alone building on the Atlanta Beltline in Buckhead. Kay Douglass Interiors has helped us curate the look and it reflects what our clients are accustomed to—a beautiful setting. This environment is key and it makes daily work better for our clients and us!
I am completely biased on Atlanta. It is a sentimental favorite because I grew up here and my family and friends are here. Where do I begin? Business is growing and opportunities are here that you won’t find anywhere else. We have affordable housing, amazing restaurants, parks, entertainment, sports, museums, weather, and just about anything you can dream up is in Atlanta—or close by!
What’s your formula for keeping those high-end and high-profile clients happy?
What is your proudest achievement?
I’d argue that all clients would put discretion at the top of the list. We do have clients who especially want to stay under the radar. Special properties are not always listed in the high end arena and knowing who is ready to buy and sell allows me to craft sales that are successful to all involved, and discreet.
Without hesitation, my family is what I am the most proud of. A close second is the creation of Ansley Atlanta Real Estate. The timing is just right and the encouragement I have received from friends, clients, colleagues and the community has been enormous. It’s the result of so much hard work realizing a vision for the best real estate services available.
Your family has a well-documented real estate pedigree in Atlanta, including the development of Historic Ansley Park in 1904. How did this influence your decision to begin a construction business? Yes, my family has been in the construction/build/development business. It’s in my blood and I love it. We had over 130 transactions last year and the majority of them needed some sort of construction services. To streamline the process, from start to finish, we want to offer our clients a one-stop service under our Ansley Atlanta umbrella. I created Ansley Atlanta Homes with Scott Johnson and Bill Browne, both icons in the Atlanta construction arena for over a decade. We’ll have real estate brokerage and construction all under one roof—all top professionals in the industry in their field. This is very exciting and gives us a real advantage for our clients.

The Music Man
Best known for his role as George Costanza on cult-celebrated series Seinfeld, Jason Alexander’s background in musical theater made him an ideal match for this year’s Symphony Gala. The New Jersey native’s résumé boasts a Tony award-winning role in Jerome Robbins’ Broadway and roles in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along and Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound. Gala guests enjoyed a cacophony of laughs, thanks to Alexander’s harmonic high jinks and an “inappropriate medley”—a run-through of show tunes sprinkled with silliness and imagined ill-fitting roles for the funnyman. –Phebe Wahl see the next page for more of the symphony gala…

ELIZABETH CLUMP, Event Co-Chair “I support CHOA because every child deserves great medical care. Fundraisers like this ensure that will always be the case.”
GINNY BREWER, Event Co-Chair “This is the seventh year that I have co-chaired the luncheon. It is a special year because is it the 100th anniversary of CHOA. We will be celebrating the milestone of a century of top-ranked pediatric healthcare in Georgia as well as celebrating the women who are currently making an impact on Atlanta’s philanthropic community. Year after year, I feel inspired and privileged to work on this event.”
HELEN CARLOS, Honoree “When you see the faces of the patients and families we help through the work of CHOA, it is an honor to support this incredible organization!”
CYNTHIA MORELAND, Honoree “Supporting CHOA is a family affair—my husband (a CHOA Foundation Board Member) and I were so proud when our youngest daughter celebrated her sweet sixteenth birthday in January. In lieu of gifts she asked her guests to donate gifts from the CHOA wish list to Hughes Spalding. Everyone was so generous and it really warmed our hearts to see our daughter inspired to serve others.”
ROSALIND BREWER, Honoree “CHOA has had the important mission of caring for children with a broad spectrum of illnesses and has done that for 100 years. There are very few organizations that can claim that level of expertise and longevity. CHOA is a pillar of the history of Atlanta.”
CAROLINE TUCKER, Honoree “I appreciate the community spirit behind this event. CHOA is honoring women who have helped not only their organization, but organizations all over the city. In so many ways I feel that this represents the spirit behind CHOA.”
PATTI DICKEY, Honoree “I’m happy to enable children to benefit from the services lovingly provided by all of the wonderful folks at CHOA, regardless of the family’s economic circumstances. Atlanta needs CHOA—and CHOA needs you!”
LESLIE MCLEOD Honoree “CHOA means so much to our family. My late husband did his orthopaedic residency at Scottish Rite and our daughter was elected Chair of UGA’s Children’s Miracle Network in 2008.”
LOUISE SAMS, Honoree “I am humbled to be in the company of the accomplished and generous women who are being honored with me and those who have been honored over the past several years. There are so many women in Atlanta who give of their time, talent and treasure to worthy causes in our community and they are all deserving of recognition.”

BETH PARK, Honoree “I support CHOA because it is a vital community resource and I’d like all children, no matter where they come from, to be able to receive the excellent care and services that CHOA provides. It’s an honor to be able to help nurture and grow this special resource.”

Pliplat clutch in Brides de Gala printed swift calfskin, $6,450, and Brides de Gala Brode 90 cm scarf in silk twill, $450, both at Hermès, Buckhead Atlanta.
Best in Show
It may come as a surprise that the champion of chic, Hermès, began in 1837 Paris as a harness and saddle workshop. Its equine roots are most evident in the brand’s iconic Brides de Gala scarf, which showcases two bridle chains linked together, evoking the majesty of riding. And now, for the first time, that motif has been imprinted on an elegant folded clutch called the Pliplat. Shown here in immaculate white and rich vermillion, this clutch encapsulates all that is Hermès: timeless fashion and unbridled craftsmanship. –Jacqueline Z. Grossnickle

only should both be able to sustain heavy loads without compromising aesthetics, but they must also be constructed with materials and techniques capable of withstanding the effects of time and the elements. In fact, it is this architectural philosophy that defines Max Mara’s unmistakable aesthetic. “Coats are the nearest thing to architecture in clothing terms,” explains Ian Griffiths, Max Mara’s creative director, alluding to the brand’s origins as a luxury coat-maker. “A coat is like a house for the street, and its design involves considerations of practicality, comfort, protection and prestige. The Whitney bag is no different.” The Max Mara Whitney bag, designed in collaboration with Renzo Piano Building Workshop, is available in three colors and sizes and is flawless by all accounts. Each bag features a supple calfskin shell that echoes the ribbed skin of the museum, while its hardware directly references the stanchions that secure the building’s tension cables. “The design is simple and pure but very detailed,” says Elisabetta Trezzani, a partner in the Renzo Piano Building Workshop. Ultimately, “it represents two brands dedicated to Italian craft, design and technology,” says Griffiths. Every bit as strong as its architectural DNA is Max Mara’s link to contemporary art, again reinforcing its ties to the Whitney. art that he curated a contemporary art collection showcasing the most relevant midcentury Italian art movements. Over the past 30 years, this collection has grown to hundreds of works, all showcased at Max Mara’s Reggio Emilia headquarters. “Growing up, we never thought to distinguish art from other aspects of life—everything was viewed through an aesthetic lens,” recalls Maria Giulia Maramotti, Achille’s granddaughter and the brand’s U.S. director of retail. “We have been committed to c u lt ivat i ng a nd supporting contemporary art for decades, and to see it culminating at the Whitney through such a major global footprint is extraordinary.” From $1,150, Max Mara stores; limited-edition collection of 250 bags, branded with a commemorative stamp, also available in stores and at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City

Today, Hamill’s got her own studio with assistants helping her churn out and perfect her unique pieces—which she describes as “modern and minimalist, with a touch of glam”—that are stocked in more than 50 boutiques worldwide by big-time brands like West Elm and Schoolhouse Electric and range from $14, for a single bud vase, to $750, for her signature table lamps. “The learning curve that comes from starting your own business is an ongoing challenge,” she reflects. “When you leave a corporate job, you suddenly become your own HR manager, accountant, IT department, marketing department and customer service rep, on top of the studio/artistic work.” Now, the artist and business owner’s day begins with an early morning cup of tea, followed by emails, shipping labels and logging hours in her studio with a plethora of tasks from glazing and mold-making to firing up the kiln—hopefully with a lunch or trip to the gym thrown in a few times a week. “Honeycomb Studio is, undoubtedly, the hardest that I have ever worked,” says Hamill, “but being able to put my work out into the world and have people respond to it is incredibly gratifying.” On the horizon, Hamill says she’s got some great new products in the works, including additions to her newest line of signature lighting coming later this year, and you can also see her pieces at this summer’s AmericasMart. “By striking out on your own, you’re defi nitely taking on more than the average person, and sometimes that can be overwhelming,” she adds. “But there’s something to be said for boldly forging your own way in the world. I think it’s something to be proud of.” FIRED UP Clockwise from left: Honeycomb Studio ceramicist Courtney Hamill at her space in Studioplex; Hamillʼs minimalist ring holder ($18); a trio of bud vases accented with a glimmer of gold ($35).
BLAZING HER TRAIL
For most of her life, Honeycomb Studio (honeycomb-studio.com) owner Courtney Hamill didn’t consider herself an artist. Admittedly ungifted in the ways of painting and drawing, it wasn’t until she enrolled in an introductory wheel class during her junior CER AMICIST COURTNEY HAMILL year at Hollins University in Roanoke, Va., TURNED ARTISTIC PASSION where she was working toward a political INTO A SUCCESSFUL CAREER. science degree, that the 32-year-old Atlanta native found her creative calling. “I took By Caroline Cox every studio class they would let me until I Photography by Jamie Hopper graduated a year later,” she explains. “There’s something very visceral about pottery—your hands almost itch to be in clay.” Though Hamill continued on the potter’s path through an apprenticeship with well-known ceramicist Donna Polseno upon graduation, the stability of a steady 9-to-5 gig was hard to pass up, and she took a seven year detour to develop a successful career in nonprofit fundraising. Then, in spring 2012, she made the leap to start her own ceramics company, and Honeycomb Studio was born. 58 THE ATL ANTAN M AY 2015

Light Up the Night
The true beauty of the Atlanta Botanical Garden will radiate this spring as Bruce Munro: Light in the Garden illuminates the local landmark. Munro, a British artist internationally acclaimed for his fascination with light as an artistic medium, will transform the garden using hundreds of miles of optic fiber. The site-specific exhibition includes six various installations (ranging from massive displays to smaller sculptures) and is the largest by the artist in the Southeast. “This show will be something unlike any other that Atlantans have experienced,” says Garden President and CEO Mary Pat Matheson. “At dusk, the Garden will become this magical yet natural landscape that visitors just have to see to believe.” May 2-Oct. 3, 1345 Piedmont Ave. NE, 404.876.5859, atlantabotanicalgarden.org –Jordan Walker

FROM CUPCAKES TO SMALL-BATCH SPIRITS, HERE IS THE NEXT GENERATION OF ATLANTA’S INNOVATORS AND ENTREPRENEURS WHO ARE BLAZING TRAILS IN BUSINESS—ALL UNDER 40 YEARS OF AGE. By Candice Dyer and Phebe Wahl

Sarah Bonner OWNER, GIGI’S CUPCAKES ATLANTA “I was definitely not your typical candidate for a cupcake bakery owner,” admits Sarah Bonner, owner of Gigi’s Cupcakes (gigiscupcakesusa. com) in both Buckhead and Peachtree City. “After making trips to Nashville (Gigi’s headquarters) for commercial real estate, I just happened upon this darling little cupcake shop and could not figure out why we didn’t have one of these in Buckhead! I met with Gigi, and next thing you know… I was the owner of Gigi’s Cupcakes in Atlanta!” Bonner always imagined a life in corporate America but has applied her business acumen instead to successfully running her sweets shops. In addition to a rotating selection of fanciful flavors like Banana Cream Pie and Orange Dreamsicle, Bonner’s bakery churns out custom orders for cookies, cupcakes and cakes. “We pride ourselves in our scratch cakes and making each cupcake fresh daily in our bakery. I believe that true bakeries bake fresh and from scratch.” The blond belle’s strong work ethic shows. “Here I am, happy as could be, giving Atlantans a little something sweet every day!” LE T THEM EAT CAKE! Sarah Bonner, owner of Gigi’s Cupcakes Atlanta, enjoys the sweet rewards of her success.
Gabrielle Mecca CEO, EDGE DESIGN GROUP “I was literally born into the floral and event industry,” explains brunette beauty Gabrielle Mecca, who now serves as CEO of Edge Design Group (edgedesignatlanta.com). Mecca’s mother, Maxine, launched the floral company 30 years ago and since has built the brand by specializing in special events and weddings. As the company grew, it only made sense to make the business a family affair. “I first started in logistics but continued to evolve in the creative aspects of the business with design and trendsetting,” says Mecca. Now her talents are focused on infusing fashion, art and interior design into their events. “I am beyond where I thought I would be at this age. This is a much bigger dream to be running a successful event design company with clients across the country. The partnerships and relationships of industry friends have been a great gift to me, and I truly love that I am able to work with my mom every day.”

Lode Van Laere CEO, INTIMACY
LADIES’ MAN Belgium-born businessman and Intimacy CEO Lode Van Laere centers his luxe lingerie company on the importance of a fabulous fit.
Although Lode Van Laere has what some mischievous men would consider a dream job as CEO of the lingerie company Intimacy (myintimacy.com)— the devoted new dad is serious about supporting women. “I had no idea I would one day be here,” says the Belgium-born Van Laere, who graduated from the London Business School. Intimacy was founded on the custom-fit premise that many women unwittingly wear the wrong size in their brassieres, and “today, it has evolved even more toward a combination of curated lingerie offerings and topnotch customer service in our stores,” he says. “Our expert stylists work with each client to find the right style, fit and color to complement her unique shape.” Before he became a protégé to Intimacy founder Susan Nethero, Van Laere worked for the Boston Consulting Group, and he led a development team in Russia for an agricultural equipment supplier. “When I was young, I wanted to work in the hospitality industry,” he says, “I wanted to provide a personalized experience in a unique setting.” Now he fulfills that aspiration with help from his stylists’ measuring tapes. “We make women feel beautiful and confident every day,” he says, “and let’s not forget we help men too. I am a loyal customer of our SAXX brand.”
Mary Kathryn Wells MARKETING DIRECTOR, BUCKHEAD ATLANTA Promoting a new eight-acre district of bestin-class businesses in Atlanta’s toniest ZIP code demands some sophisticated, creative and tireless showmanship. Luckily, Mary Kathryn Wells has been training her entire life for her role as marketing director for Buckhead Atlanta (buckhead-atl.com), a collective of 60 retailers and 13 restaurants dubbed the “Rodeo Drive of the South.” She describes herself as a “professional shopper” and a spotlight-seeking ham since she was 3. “I loved to be onstage,” Wells says, “so I took voice, dance, acting and piano. The arts have given me the confidence to take on any stage of life.” She attended Pebblebrook High School and then majored in musical theater at Brenau before deciding to merge art with commerce. After holding similar retail positions in Destin, Fla., and Las Vegas, the Atlanta native—known for her personal collection of eye-popping baubles—came home, where a typical day involves “walking from Hermès and Brunello Cucinelli to Corso Coffee for a meeting and stopping to talk to the valet and security staff before lunch at Le Bilboquet,” she says. “No two days are the same, which keeps me on my toes. I’m reaching my goals, one handbag at a time.”

Pavel Stuchlik ENTREPRENEUR AND FOUNDER, ATMASPHERE Czech émigré Pavel Stuchlik began his careers as a professional cyclist and entrepreneur at the mere age of 17, and he since has been putting the pedal to his mettle in a variety of successful ventures, recently opening Atmasphere (liveatmasphere.com), the largest yoga facility in the Southeast. The word “atma” means soul, he says, explaining how this rarefied 10,000 square feet of space is divided thematically into four elements— earth, water, fire and wind—conducive to meditation, detoxification and other lifestyle enhancers. Stuchlik specializes in projects that benefit both body and soul, and “tap into a higher vibration of life,” he says. “My biggest wish was to do something purposeful and helpful to the world.” Atmasphere, which is located next door to his Buckhead fitness center, Orangetheory, is the largest project to date for his investment company, Tomorrow’s Vision. A few years ago, Stuchlik sold his first company, a wholesale distributor of bicycle parts, and reinvested the funds in real estate throughout Germany and franchise opportunities in the United States; he sold more than 40 Orangetheory franchises in his first year, while building five of his own. “I use the law of attraction daily on my journey,” he says, “and what I ask the universe for I get every time.”

GETTING FRESH Garnish & Gather founder Emily Golub strives to bring healthy, easy-to-prep meals to Atlantans.
Emily Golub FOUNDER, GARNISH & GATHER Emily Golub loved receiving that weekly package from her Community Supported Agriculture program. “There was nothing quite like opening up the mystery box of fruits and veggies, and not only washing a little old-fashioned dirt off the roots but also experiencing the challenge of really eating seasonally,” reflects Golub. However, other factors sometimes intruded. “I’d try to get friends signed up with the CSA but often heard from them that it was just a little too difficult,” says the former regional director for Intimacy apparel, “and I must admit, after a busy week of travel at work, there were some nights when the box was a little daunting.” So she developed epicurean delivery service Garnish & Gather (garnishandgather.com), which, partnering with farmers markets and a team of crackerjack chefs, provides perfectly portioned, easy-to-assemble meal kits that enable Atlanta families to eat local, gourmet, healthful dinners every night. Think fresh fish tacos with creamy kale and cabbage slaw, made with AtlantaFresh Greek-style yogurt; or a goat cheese and lemon pizza topped with Doux South’s Drunken Tomatoes. The multitasking mom’s favorite part of her work besides a satisfied appetite? “For me, Garnish & Gather has always been about more than just food,” she says. “It’s about bringing families and friends together around a table. It’s creating that shared experience to really gather.”
DRINKING IT ALL IN Brothers Craig and Jeff Moore on-site at their new Old 4th Distillery in the Old Fourth Ward
Craig & Jeff Moore CO-FOUNDERS, OLD 4TH DISTILLERY “The idea for the distillery came about on New Year’s Eve of 2011,” reveals Craig Moore, who, along with brother Jeff Moore, launched Old 4th Distillery (old4th. com), home to Atlanta’s first legal still in almost a century. “We looked around and realized that there had not been a distillery in Atlanta since 1906. After some legal exploration, we found that it was a possibility, and we set out to become the first distillery since the R.M. Rose Co. Distillery.” Scheduled to open this summer, the operation will distill vodka with south Georgia cane sugar sourced from Dixie Crystal and will begin producing gin later down the line. Vodka and gin will be the foundation of the company, but plans to distill whiskey in years to come are also in the works. Along with partners Justin Gray, Andy Duvall and Gabe Pilato, the brothers hope to begin distributing bottles by early August. “Jeff and I have had the entrepreneurial spirit from the age of about 6—we were always a team,” says Craig. “I was always the salesman; I would go door to door selling our lawn-care service, and Jeff would handle the hard work while I went out and got our next job. It took us some decades, but we picked up where we left off.”

The Spa at Farmhouse Inn resembles a horse stable with an elegant twist.
Rural Revival
Given Northern California’s breathtaking landscape, it’s no surprise that design in the wine country has taken a shift toward simplicity, including Russian River Valley’s Farmhouse Inn. After a yearlong renovation by San Francisco’s SB Architects and Healdsburg’s Myra Hoefer Design, the award-winning hotel recently unveiled a revamped pool and nine new barn rooms—complete with weathered-wood furnishings, earth-toned fabrics and Italian Carrara marble bathrooms—to accompany 16 existing accommodations. There’s also the brand-new Spa at Farmhouse Inn, a space epitomizing bucolic elegance via a rural-chic aesthetic and bevy of treatments, including Farmhouse Inn owner Catherine Bartolomei’s namesake treatment, Catherine’s Favorite, which consists of a massage, hair and scalp treatment, and foot exfoliation all in one (from $260). “We wanted to create something that was completely different from any spa that we had ever seen,” says Bartolomei of the concept. “A converted horse stable, with a mix of rustic and glamorous finishes, seemed like just the thing.” This setting complements decadent farm-to-table dining at the Michelin-starred Farmhouse Restaurant, with Executive Chef Steve Litke’s daily changing menu featuring provisions from locally based artisan farmers. (The rabbit—Litke’s signature dish—is a must-try.) Another reason to visit this quaint yet luxurious destination is, of course, the wine. To this end, Farmhouse Inn’s new in-room sommelier program is a truly tantalizing prospect for guests who prefer detailing their wine preferences upon arrival, then finding their rooms stocked with an array of related vintages, both local and international, hand-selected by sommelier Allyson Gorsuch, along with appropriate wine glasses and a note describing each bottle. The wine country experience in the privacy of your own hotel room? Cheers to that! Room rates from $595, 7871 River Road, Forestville, Calif., 707.887.3300, farmhouseinn.com –Jess Charmoli

A MOVEABLE FEAST A STELLAR TOUR THROUGH BURGUNDY, GUIDED BY THE LEGENDARY LUXURY HOSPITALITY GROUP RELAIS & CHÂTEAUX, PROVES THE PERFECT BLEND FOR LOVERS OF FINE CUISINE. By Patti Dickey
With great anticipation, I boarded my Air France flight, which turned out to be a perfect first step on a luxurious culinary trip through glorious Burgundy. The in-flight meal by Régis Marcon, Air France’s three-Michelin-starred chef, whet my appetite for the gastronomic delights that awaited. In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Relais & Châteaux hospitality group (relaischateaux.com), known for its unique and sumptuous properties, lavish spas and storied Michelin-starred restaurants, a five-property whirlwind tour lay ahead, promising a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience. Our first stop was Relais & Châteaux’s La Côte Saint Jacques (from $240, relaischateaux.com/lorain), located in Joigny, a quaint town only 90 minutes from Paris that’s described as the gateway to Burgundy. An under-street tunnel connects the two sections, and guests are afforded a glimpse of family photographs as well as the property’s fabulous wine cellar. La Côte Saint Jacques boasts 32 rooms and suites, each individually decorated. My suite had a generous sitting area and a king-size bed that had the most heavenly mattress and linens. Nearby tennis and golf is available, but I opted for an expertly delivered massage in the hotel’s Spa Côte Coon. Adjacent to the spa, you’ll find a luxurious indoor swimming pool, beautifully set off by majestic arches and exquisite mosaic tiles. Totally relaxed, I floated back to my suite to indulge in the beautifully appointed marble bath. I was ready for the gastronomic feast that awaited, to say the least. Chef Jean-Michel Lorain, the youngest ever in Michelin’s history to earn three stars, presented a multicourse meal that did not disappoint. Each course was paired with the perfect wine to complement and enhance the flavors. The food is deceptively simple, its presentation inviting the discovery of the layers of flavor. Next on our itinerary was Chablis, the town known for its fine white wines. After a morning excursion touring the Domaine Laroche wine cellars, we strolled to a delightful local brasserie, Bistrot des Grand Crus, for a bite of lunch. The food was regionally influenced and plentiful, and the continued… wine list represented the region perfectly.

dessert course that featured a spun chocolate crown and a perfectly replicated cut green apple, I made my way to my comfortable suite. The next morning, we viewed the hotel’s Alexandre Dumaine historic room. Original to the main building, the decor of the room, which now serves as the breakfast room, has been exactly preserved since the early 20th Century—and has hosted such luminaries as Prince Rainier, Salvador Dalí, Rita Hayworth and Charlie Chaplin, to name just a few. Next we traveled to the charming medieval village of Flavignysur-Ozerain, where a majority of the scenes from the movie Chocolat were filmed. Flavigny is known as one of the most beautiful villages in France and is where the anisette candy, Les Anis de Flavigny, is manufactured. Lunch was enjoyed at La Grange de Flavigny, a local bistro serving family-style dishes featuring fresh ingredients from area farms—farm to table in the truest sense. After a fascinating tour of the Cistercian Abbey of Fontenay, we were on our way to our next stop, Relais & Châteaux’s chef Marc Meneau’s L’Espérance (from $200, relaischateaux. com/esperance), located in Saint-Père-sous-Vézelay. Known as the founding father of modern French cuisine, Meneau and his restaurant proudly sport two Michelin stars. Around his restaurant, the chef and his wife have built and developed a luxury hotel, a winery and a more modest pension and restaurant. The main stone lodge, with cream-colored shutters, projects a warm, inviting aura. The interiors are modernly furnished and the rear of the house features a dramatic expanse of windows overlooking enchanting gardens. There are rooms available in the main building, although most of it is dedicated to the restaurants, as well as rooms across the road in a converted 19th century mill and a nearby modern single-story guest annex. This property sports 31 bedrooms, a small conference facility and three dining rooms: Bistro Gainsbourg, a casual place; continued… Our next stop, Relais & Châteaux’s …continued Relais Bernard Loiseau (from $260, relaischateaux.com/loiseau) in Saulieu, is five hours from Paris. This five-star property has a historic and colorful past. And the namesake restaurant has maintained its three Michelin stars since first earning them in 1991 under chef Bernard Loiseau. Loiseau forever transformed French cuisine with his technique of cooking with a limited use of fats and sugar, and via his signature method of deglazing with water. The food was deceptively simple yet immensely complex and bursting with flavor. Upon Loiseau’s untimely death in 2003, his second in command, chef Patrick Bertron, stepped up and continues to run the kitchen in the spirit of his predecessor. The hotel, under the watchful eye of scion Dominique Loiseau, boasts several dining rooms overlooking the gardens in the back. The property features an outdoor pool and a spa, which carries the cosmetic aromatherapy line Decléor. In addition to the expected spa services, the spa offers intriguing wraps designed to pamper the body and soul. My suite overlooked the gardens and had a lovely outdoor terrace. The antique furniture and fittings are substantial (you could get lost in the bedding and linens), yet every modern amenity is available. My suite also had a wood-burning fireplace that cast a warm glow on the burgundy floor tiles topped with regionally inspired rugs. Dinner that evening included one of Bernard Loiseau’s classic dishes: frog legs with garlic puree and a parsley jus. Beautifully yet simply presented, it was absolutely delicious. After an incredible

GOTHIC GLORY Clockwise from top left: Elaborate archways hint at the original use of Vézelay’s L’Abbaye de la Bussière; immaculate gardens and pathways await at chef Marc Meneau’s L’Espérance in Saint-Père-sous-Vézelay; Auberge de Jeu de Paume and its chef, Arnaud Faye (his agnolotti, gentian and green peas dish pictured), are new, very welcome additions to the Relais & Châteaux portfolio.
…continued L’Entre-Vignes, which offers Sunday brunch and acts as a gathering space; and the main dining room, a grand, airy expanse overlooking gardens. The latter proves to be the perfect place to savor the freshly innovative dishes that Meneau creates. My room at the annex, across the road and near the outdoor pool, was cozy and cheerful, featuring hardwood floors, crisp white walls and sliding glass doors that opened onto a private covered patio. Next, we were off to Vézelay to visit the Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine. Rumor has it that the crypt contains part of the remains of Mary Magdalene. L’Abbaye de la Bussière (from $240, relaischateaux.com/bussiere), another in the Relais & Châteaux’s family of fine properties, was our next overnight destination. Founded by the Cistercian monks in 1133, the abbey is tucked into a 15-acre park that has a large ornamental lake fed by the River Arvot. The abbey has 18 bedrooms, each with a Jacuzzi bath. Just a half-hour from Dijon,
it is a perfect base for touring the vineyards. The Cummings family has owned this property since 2005. Guests familiar with their other property, in the U.K., Amberley Castle, followed them to France with great (and fulfilled) anticipation. My suite featured beautiful antique furnishings with a modern bathroom and modern electronic conveniences. This is definitely a property to consider for a longer stay if you are looking for some R&R in a sublimely comfortable environment. The dining room is a gothically inspired space, complete with vaulted ceilings. Chef Emmanuel Hébrard, who has earned one Michelin star thus far, is a rising star in the ranks. The evening of our dinner, we were served one of the chef’s signature dishes, escargots de Bourgogne en risotto d’orge perlée et écume de fromage de chevre, a risotto with snails and goat cheese dressing. Definitely put this dish on your bucket list! In the morning, after breakfast, we set forth for the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon. Established in 1787 and located in the former Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, this exquisite gem was opened to the public in 1799, making it one of the oldest museums in France. Making our way back toward Paris, off we went to Chantilly to sample the delights promised by Auberge de Jeu de Paume (from $280, relaischateaux.com/ jeudepaume), a stunning new addition to the Relais & Châteaux portfolio. This gem with 92 rooms and suites overlooks the gardens of the Château de Chantilly. My room was a study in blue toile with elegant Louis XV armchairs nestled before floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the chateau gardens. 102 THE ATL ANTAN M AY 2015
Expect Valmont-branded treatments and rituals at the Moorish-inspired spa. The signature treatment, the Thousand & One Chantilly, however, is a real standout: Starting with an exfoliating treatment, followed by a relaxing massage, you’re then enveloped in a whipped cream body mask. The entire experience is topped off with a delectable serving of Chantilly cream with berries and a small square of chocolate. The only thing missing was a glass of champagne. Thoroughly pampered and relaxed, I made my way down to La Table du Connétable, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, to savor the delights prepared by chef Arnaud Faye (who just recently captured his second Michelin star). The scallops prepared for our dinner were majestic—marinated and served bite-size along with Dungeness crab, kohlrabi, and a fine jelly of French caviar. We then set off to explore the Château de Chantilly next door. Built in 1528 and destroyed during the French Revolution, the Château was rebuilt in the 1870s and is now open to the public as a museum. The main gallery here houses one of the finest art collections in France, second only to the Louvre. The Château and the adjacent Grand Stables were featured as the home of the villainous Max Zorin in the 1985 James Bond film, A View to a Kill. Auberge de Jeu de Paume proved the perfect spot to spend my last night in France. Just 20 minutes from Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, you avoid the stress of the Paris traffic and transition home in a relaxed fashion that does not disturb the wonderful memories you have of fine dining, superb wines and unforgettable château delights. SUPERSEDAN The Jaguar XFR-S’ “R” designation means the engine is supercharged, and the “S” is your cue to expect pure sports styling inside and out.
THE CAT’S MEOW JAGUAR SHOWS ITS STYLISH CLAWS WITH ITS NEW SUPERSEDAN, THE THRILLING SUPERCHARGED XFR-S. By Nate Chapnick
Jaguars are known for their sneak attacks—silently stalking their prey until the moment they strike without warning. Unlike the jungle cat, this feral beauty makes no attempt to fly under the radar. An explosive exhaust note, large 20-inch rims with giant red-painted brake calipers, a blacked-out grille and a huge rear spoiler (the good looks are also functional, reducing lift by 68 percent) make it impossible for the 2015 XFR-S to go unnoticed. The throbbing heart of the XFR-S is a supercharged V8 engine that pumps out an astounding 550 horsepower and 502 lb.-ft. of torque. Mated to an advanced eight-speed automatic transmission, the lightweight 4,380-pound XFR-S manages to escape gas-guzzler taxes and achieve an impressive 23 mpg on the highway. Admirable, especially considering the XFR-S’ 4.4-second run from 0 to 60 mph and its top speed of 186 mph— performance specs that seem more sports car than sedan. On the road, the XFR-S handles with scalpellike precision, thanks to an Adaptive Dynamics suspension system that automatically adjusts to road conditions and an active differential that transfers torque between wheels for optimum cornering.
When it’s time to go, press the pulsating red engine start/stop button and the XFR-S’ sparkling cast alloy gear selector rises from the center console while the air vents rotate into place. The whole ignition-theater sequence guarantees smiles on the faces of any new passengers. Audiophiles will also be left smiling after hearing the standard Meridian 825-watt 7.1-channel surround sound system. Inside, the XFR-S pampers drivers and passengers alike, showcasing Jaguar’s exceptional attention to detail. The 18-way sport seats are embossed with the “R-S” logo (identifying the car as a supercharged model). Leather covers nearly every surface inside the XFR-S and is highlighted by contrast color stitching throughout the interior. At night, the dash lights up in phosphorousblue, casting a club-like glow on your nocturnal adventures. A heated steering wheel keeps your fingers warm in the winter, while cooled seats keep you comfortable in the heat of summer. Priced at $99,000, the limited-production 2015 Jaguar XFR-S is an outstanding value considering its exclusivity and amazing performance. LA DOLCE VITA A CHARLESTON CHEF INFILTR ATES AVALON WITH A REGIONAL TWIST ON ITALIAN INSPIR ATIONS. By Kate Abney | Photography by Heidi Geldhauser
Atlanta-metro adventurers now have an indulgent new Italian destination in Alpharetta’s elite community of Avondale. Positioned right next to the upscale Oak Steakhouse—a product of the same Charleston-based The Indigo Road restaurant group—two-month-old Colletta is based loosely on the celebrated cuisine of Italian convention. But when we say loosely, we mean it: The pizzas here are topped with everything from shaved continued… Brussels sprouts to duck confit.
THE ITALIAN JOB Clockwise from top: The 150-seat restaurant includes a chefʼs counter, private dining room and patio; patrons can watch the pastas being made; the pork tesa pizza features braised greens, san simon di costa, farm egg and pecorino Romano; the rotating selection of pastas includes a sugo with wild boar and whipped ricotta.

…continued Perhaps it’s fitting that Colletta means “collection” in its mother tongue, since this restaurant really is a mélange of ingredients and experimental fusions of American and far-flung flavors (most of which Charleston-import chef Michael Perez picked up on a September trip across the boot-shaped nation). Every dish is pared down accordingly—and appropriately—for suburban palates. The one winner around which all others developed is a simple twist on chicken soup that Perez sampled numerous times on his journey: a bowl of ricotta- and Parmesan-stuffed cappellacci floating in a rich broth with dark-meat chicken. Perez’s take is a little more Southern dumpling than al dente, but for our locale, we wouldn’t want it any other way. While the menu comprises four neat columns of culinary categories—including Antipasti, Pizza and Piatti (main plates)—the pastas make a great starting point for your savory spelunking (try the Gulf shrimp ravioli, lamb-filled agnolotti or egg yolk-laced carbonara). Other columns list an array of appetizers (sous vide octopus and red snapper crudo, for example); a range of Americanized pies featuring house-cured meats; and entrees like the enticing bistecca for two: a Florentinestyle bone-in rib-eye served with charred cauliflower, salsa verde and fingerling potatoes. If ever in doubt, just ask your server for a specialized, chef-curated menu— prix fi xe at $50 per person. Regional wines selected by sommelier Zach Stewart are rivaled only by the cocktails of mixologist Kelsey Schulz (from the refreshing Belladonna to the desserttime Affogato de Colleta). And if your preference is for sweets of the plated variety, Pastry Chef Jennifer Paul’s almond budino will delight with salted caramel and chocolate shortbread crumbles, as will the sugary bambolini served with a mini carafe of cappuccino crema. Consider it your own little slice of la dolce vita. A

ATLANTA FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL CO-FOUNDERS DOMINIQUE LOVE AND ELIZABETH FEICHTER TALK ABOUT THIS YEAR’S INTIMATE CONNOISSEUR DINNER SERIES AND WHY YOU SHOULD SNAG A SEAT AT ONE OF THE HOTTEST TABLES IN TOWN. By Laura Janelle Downey
The Atlanta Food & Wine Festival (atlfoodandwinefestival.com) prides itself on saturating its festivalgoers in all things Southern. Celebrating the fest’s fifth anniversary at the end of the month (May 28 to 31), co-founders Dominique Love and Elizabeth Feichter are gearing up to bring you one of the best experiences yet. “Five years ago we started this thing and people thought we were nutso,” Love says. “But we stuck with it.” And now, the dynamic duo, who have been planning the ins and outs of the fest since August, are offering 20-, 30- and 60-seat themed Connoisseur dinners that are all the rage. “It’s not just about eating and drinking—it’s about immersing yourself in the experience,” Feichter says. Moving away from the 150-seat dinners of the past, this year’s lineup provides up-close-and-personal exposure for an exclusive bunch. “The Connoisseur Dinner Series is our highest kind of experience,” Love says. “Every year we go deeper into the South. We want chefs to talk about what’s on their minds, what’s informing their decisions each day and what’s causing them to create a dish or tell a story. In addition, we want our guests to walk away saying, ‘I heard it first. continued… I tasted it first. I experienced it first,’” Love adds. 114 THE ATL ANTAN M AY 2015

Dinner attendees want to know that they have a friend in Roanoke.” “Th is year we changed the footprint a little bit,” Feichter says. “Dominique and I like the more intimate dinners, so we went in that direction. People will just have to choose which dinner they’d like to attend.” Feichter’s advice? “Choose quickly.”

“I remember seeing a study on film about how chimpanzees would sit and stare at a photo of the dominant alpha male in their group,” reveals Atlantaborn artist Mark Boomershine. “That made me laugh, when you think that at its simplest form, that is exactly what we do in our culture with the icons of our time.” Boomershine’s Revealed: Faces of Our Time exhibition, scheduled to be on display this month in Manhattan’s The Surrey hotel as part of the esteemed Frieze Art Fair, delves deep into our culture’s current fascination with fame. With deeply moving depictions of subjects like Taylor Swift, Eddie Redmayne and Cara Delevingne, Boomershine focuses in on the faces that define our culture today. The artist, who cites popmovement influences like Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, captures not only the beauty of each subject, but also the mysterious attraction that defines them. The University of Alabama-educated artist worked closely with the owners of The Surrey hotel as well as 144 THE ATL ANTAN M AY 2015
Blair Clarke of Voltz Clarke gallery (the gallery that represents Boomershine) and Natasha Schlesinger of ArtMuse New York to create a list of 10 icons. “We wanted icons that are the faces that define our culture today,” Boomershine remarks. Once home to many of New York’s most eccentric celebrities over the years— including JFK, Bette Davis and Claudette Colbert— Upper East Side haute hotel The Surrey is a fitting home for the series. As for Boomershine’s own celebrated status, the acclaimed artist and devoted dad of two young children is content with being the hero of his own Buckhead abode. “I am hugely famous—in my own house—and I love it that way. I make my daughter scream like she sees a rock star when I walk in the door; I make my son smile when I round the corner; and I still make my wife giddy after all these years. That is all the fame I need.” Boomershine Studio, boomershine.com; Voltz Clarke gallery, 212.933.0291, voltzclarke.com
