This volume, edited by Dorota Probucka, criticizes the modern approach to hunting by incorporating legal, ethical, cultural, social, theological, and linguistic perspectives into the analysis . The collection of articles contains thorough argumentation against hunting and determines social change strategies for eliminating it from cultural behavior patterns . It utilizes the expertise of Polish experts from many fields to describe and criticize the practice of hunting, illustrate its inhumane nature and unimaginable cruelty, and condemn the devastation of the natural environment that comes as a direct consequence of the actions of hunters . This volume argues that, unless dictated by biological need, hunting as a practice ought to be outlawed and culturally shunned, much like slavery .

Cultural security is a basic need for individuals belonging to national and linguistic minorities . Structurally exposed to asymmetric power dynamics, these minorities compete with the larger society for material and nonmaterial resources, rendering their future perspectives particularly precarious . This book brings researchers from different social sciences together to examine the notion of cultural security and its meaning for different national and linguistic minorities through multiple case studies in Europe, Asia, North and South America . The cultural security of these minorities comprises various dimensions, including institutional and territorial arrangements, state stability, as well as different patterns of citizen belonging and participation . Through the prism of these dimensions, the contributors to this book present a variety of strategies of cultural resilience, societal structures and institutional frameworks allowing national and linguistic minorities to secure a certain degree of cultural autonomy and develop a sense of belonging to their respective states . Cultural security is an inescapable condition for the fair and sustained development of both minorities and majorities in today’s societies characterized by deep diversity .

This book comprises a systematic analysis of Karl Marx’s reasoning on ownership . Marx as the author of an original theory of ownership is yet to be discovered . The creator of a theory which was to interpret social reality is quite a different thinker from the creator of a doctrine which was to alter the world . In designing communist society, Marx ignored the threats which social property bears, despite having skillfully identified them in investigations of diverse pre-capitalistic forms of common ownership . The

author seeks to break through one-sided interpretations which discern in Marx a decisive critique of private property and an apologia of common ownership . It becomes apparent that Marx treated both the processes of socialization and privatization of ownership with equal consideration .

The Idea of Political Representation and Its Paradoxes

Berlin, 2020 . 272 pp . Studies in Philosophy, Culture and Contemporary Society. Vol. 24

If we want to understand the vicissitudes of modern democracy then, argues the author, we need to analyse the ideas upon which representative government is based rather than compare contemporary conditions with the Greek ideal . These principal ideas have been presented clearly in past centuries, when the relation between democracy and representation was still a matter of political judgement . The old masters of political thinking clarified the functions of representation: legitimising power, creating sovereignty but also setting its limits, and pursuing the common good while still reflecting social diversity . Because institutions of representation are expected to fulfil a variety of functions, these institutions have in recent times come under attack for standing in the way of radical programs for democratising democracy . The author of this book reminds us that these functions are necessary in every political order, whether democratic or not . Instead of rejecting representation, political theorists should focus on making government more accountable .
