PETER MCENTEE PORTFOLIO VOL. 1
World famous photographer, Helmut Newton, created a signature technique that seperated his work from the rest. The way he composed his photos with such control over techniques that included layering and reflection transcends past the term “art”. Honoring his work in the capital city of Germany, Berlin, with a new Helmut Newton Foundation museum to display Helmut Newton’s work, along with his wife, and current artists inspired by Helmut Newton. Inspiration for the Foundation came from Newton’s photography and five influential buildings including Mies Van der Rohe’s National Gallery and Hans Sharoun’s Berlin Philharmonic. Using these iconic buildings and other significant elements that surround the site as another layer that extend past the border of Newton’s photography as if his German roots were always part of his images. 5 radial galleries sit centered in the site and project towards 5 significant buildings that surround the site. Developing a structure that creates a frame-like condition to capture these environmental conditions. Central entrance point “lens” creates a public plaza condition that envelops the user and allows for an experience of the 5 projections from this center point.
HELMUT NEWTON FOUNDATION
MORPHOLOGY DNA Nature has always had a significant influence to unlocking the secret to understanding certain functions and connections. Focusing on DNA and how certain tensegrities and elastegrities form a set of connections begin to replicate the same pattern and relationship as a strand of DNA (double helix).
SOUTH END CULLINARY ARTS
The South End is home to many exquisite restaurants known for their high end culinary skills. Introducing a culinary institute into this environment inspires young culinary professionals to learn and observe in a range of environments. Located on East Brookline street in the South End of Boston that is home to the historical location of Franklin Park. Once the center of the area this park has a radial connection to many new additions of green areas inserted into the Boston fabric. Using this radial pattern as a conceptual form to shape the building it begins to rise and turn eventually looking onto Franklin Park and Prudential building.
MISSION HILL HEALTH CENTER Tremont Street, located on Mission Hill, is unlike any other street in Boston and has a composition that is quite unique. With such a wide range of religious, eateries, commercial, and public places all located on one street. One piece that this street seemed to be missing was the influence of health and wellness. Introducing a professional live work health center at the heart of Roxbury Crossing offers the community of Mission Hill a place to come and learn about wellness and nutrition. Introducing a building that is for the people inspired the stepping action along the street side to allow for the public and residents to interact in one zone and a private zone along the courtyard side to focus on a more individual experience.
