Itinerary Santiago De Compostela

Day 1: Tui – Let the journey begin...

Arrive in the historic and picturesque town of Tui on the Portuguese border where you will be booked in to a hotel for the night. Spend the evening getting to know your group and take the opportunity to stroll down the cobbled streets to the 12th Century cathedral on the Plaza de San Fernando.

Day 2: Tui to O Porrino (16 km)

Padron Caldas de Reis Pontevedra Arcade O Porrino Tui

We will depart from the old port of Tui. Leaving the old town behind, we head to the Tunel das Monxas. This is where the path takes a steep turn as it leads to the evocative bridge of San Telmo. From there we make our way to the town of O Porrino.

Day 3: O Porrino to Arcade (22 km)

The terrain becomes easier as we make our way across the Louro valley. After a gentle climb, we will arrive at the chapel of Santiaguino de Antas. Continuing on the woodland path, we descend to the hamlet of Setefontes and then onwards to Arcade, the fishing village where we can try their famous oysters.

Day 4: Arcade to Pontevedra (11 km)

Having reached the famous site of Ponte Sampaio, we then cross the Verdugo River. During the Spanish war of independence, Napoleon’s army suffered one of its greatest defeats in Galicia at this bridge. The cobbled footpath will lead us to the 13th century church of Santa Maria, with stunning views of the Bay of Vigo.

Day 5: Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis (24 km)

We leave Pontevedra through the chestnut groves and head towards the rectory of Santa Maria de Alba, tucked away among pine and eucalyptus trees. As we emerge from the woods of Lombo de Maceira, we will see the statue of Saint James the pilgrim. We then pass through the beautiful village of Tivo before reaching the spa town of Caldas de Reis.

Day 6: Caldas de Reis to Padrón (18 km)

Leaving Caldas de Reis, our path makes its way gently uphill to the hamlet of Santa Marina before descending to the river Fontenlo. Continuing on we follow the pine tree lined path until reaching the town of Padrón. It is here the body of Saint James arrived when it was brought to Santiago de Compostela by boat.

Day 7: Padrón to Santiago (24 km)

Today our Camino path will lead us through many small towns and hamlets, and see us arrive at the Baroque sanctuary of Esclavitude. As we approach Santiago we pass some of the oldest wayside crosses (crucerios) in Galicia before spotting the spires of the magnificent Santiago cathedral. Finally, the path passes by the ruins of A Rocha Vella before reaching the city where you can relish that moment of walking into Santiago and completing your Camino journey.

Day 8: Santiago de Compostela

On your final day you’ll have some free time to explore Santiago de Compostela, before we make our journey home.

Total Distance: 115km (Approximately)
