Day 2 Les Contamines to Les Chapieux

Col de Seigne Ville des Glaciers

We begin our trek with a steep ascent to the Col Du Bonhomme (2329m), before traversing to the Croix du Bonhomme (2479m). This will be our lunch stop and trekkers will be rewarded with awesome views down into the Vallée des Chapieux. We then descend to Les Chapieux, our home for the evening. Day two is a testing start but the fantastic views and the satisfaction of coming over the Col du Bonhomme will make it all worthwhile!

Les Chapieux

Day 3 Les Chapieux to Rifugio Elisabetta

Today we’ll be greeted by open pastures and snowfields before arriving at the Col de la Seigne (2,516m) and the border with Italy. Once across the border we descend into the beautiful Val Veny, passing picturesque glacial lakes en route.

Day 4 Rifugio Elisabetta to Courmayeur

The route to Courmayeur is straight forward, but involves a short uphill section. This route will offer stunning views of Monte Bianco. Courmayeur is the biggest town on the Italian Monte Bianco circuit. Trekkers will have a free evening to explore the town.

Day 5 Courmayeur to Champex

From Courmayeur, it is a short bus ride to Arnuva, where we will resume our trek. Switzerland beckons today as we cross the river ‘dora di ferret’ to reach the Swiss side of Val Ferret, a beautiful alpine valley. Going downhill we reach La Fouly where you can rest before we are transferred by bus to the lovely lakeside town of Champex.

Day 6 Champex to Trient

Taking the Bovine Way, an old trail used to access the flower-filled summer cow pastures high above the valley, we continue along our tour. Today we pass the Col de Forclaz (1526m) and then head downslope to tour Trient. It is highly recommended to try the tarte aux myrtilles (blueberry pie)!

Day 7 Trient to Chamonix

Saying goodbye to Switzerland, we head back to the Chamonix Valley walking uphill through a larch forest and then open alpine slopes to the Col de Balme (2191m). Our final night’s stay will be in a hotel in the centre of Chamonix. A celebratory meal will be organised to end our incredible journey.

Day 8 Chamonix

After breakfast, you will be transferred by bus to Geneva airport for our return flight to Dublin.

Total Distance: 100km (approx.)
