I am a dreamer, a reader, an adventurer, a hard worker, and a dedicated student. A lifelong learner, I believe in constantly improving my abilities and studying a wide range of topics both in school and on my own. I believe creative spatial design has the power to give fantastic experiences and memories that people will hold on to forever. The story of creative design has been passed down for centuries, and my dream is to continue that story, contributing to, and learning from it. What unfolds between these pages is my own story so far, and it is just the beginning; who knows where it will take me.

Bridging Annecy | Social Hub and Arts District | Annecy, France “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts,” -William Shakespeare, As You Like It Based on an initial study of the vernacular architecture of Annecy, France, our class found recent architecture to be failing in being both authentic for the people and authentic for the location. New modernist apartments tower over the quaint, historical downtown blocking the views of the surrounding picturesque mountains and lake. This project demonstrates one possibility for development that connects the people of the city through a new transit system and arts district with a centerpiece theater.

As Gran Annecy grows in to its new integrated identity the old boundaries need to be erased
1. Existing Urban Fabric
11|12
The historic down town is the center of investment, focusing on visitors rather than locals
2. Clean Slate
3. Incorporate Existing Street Grid
By introducing a network of light rail lines they can bridge divides and increase mobility of residents
4. Create Direct Connections
Generating new dense hubs of activity at intersections of transit lines creates destinations equal to the downtown
5. Implement Flexible Public Spaces
6. Grow a New Neighborhood

Home in the Age of Cyborgs | A Vertical Smart Street for All “[He] walked about the streets, and watched the people hurrying to and for, and patted the children on the head, and questioned beggars, and looked down into the kitchens of homes, and up to the windows, and found that everything could yield him pleasure.” -Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol Hearkening back to the neighborhoods filled with three-floor walk-ups, busy and lively streets, a thriving stoop culture, where everybody knew each other’s names, the future of Detroit will be realized in vertical streets. In a city that will densify in coming years as climate refugees flee inland well organized apartment buildings will need to have an open, community oriented design in order to foster relationships and a healthy environment. In a future (and arguably present) where we depend on technology and robots to run our everyday lives the real face to face interactions that we have are what will make life worth living. This single ramp that wraps through the entire interior of the building is a space where people will meet and build relationships with each other. The modular housing design of stacked units wrapping along with the ramp allow for a wide range of potential residents and unlike normal apartment’s replicated floor plans this allows you to have many neighbors with vastly different lifestyles. From family units to single-person lofts, and even twelveroom community living units the apartment building is open to all. Conveniently located on the river the site is the intersection of several different transportation networks coalescing here at this new center of activity and movement. In a world moving at ever increasing speeds its nice to live somewhere where its easy to slow down and just have a chat with your neighbor on the street.

Fire House Plaza | A Space for Interaction | Ann Arbor “Every so often, in the midst of chaos, you come across an amazing, inexplicable instance of civic responsibility. Maybe the last shred of faith people have is in their firemen.” -Kurt Vonnegut, Hocus Pocus Firemen are an essential and often over-looked part of their community. Ann Arbor’s Station 6 is currently an inward focused and blank building sitting between a large street and a mall parking lot. The uninviting nature of the building perpetuates the separation between citizens and those that protect them. By opening it up and creating a multi-use park and plaza the site draws in the community and makes a space for interaction and relationships. The east side of the site holds a towering coffee roasterie and market. A quick stop on the way to work or convenient stop on the way home, it is always filled. The aroma of roasting beans fills the air attracting many from the neighborhood as well as fueling the fireman’s constant need. The building focuses views on the park and fire station as well as providing a ladder wall for the practice and drilling firemen go through regularly. Across the way the facility on the west side of the site provides layers of privacy exposing the working life of fireman to those in the park and showing the hard work that goes into risking their lives to support the community. The living quarters of the facility are located on the lower level along with the gym and dining area, still close to the apparatus bay above, ready to leave in a moments notice.

Neighborhood Park | Publishing and Co-Work Space | Barcelona As she turned the corner, work samples in hand, she saw it. Like a beacon on a hill, the white building draped in green sheets of ivy, stood out in the middle of the street. The older apartment buildings lining the large avenues on either side stood in the periphery, a backdrop to the publishing house taking center stage. Children ran up and down the hill chasing each other and laughing; a woman jogged by pushing a stroller; and an older couple stood talking when their dog ran up with a ball, ready for another toss. As she got closer she realized the hill itself was actually a part of the whole structure. The building above, an elevated volume eerily reminiscent of her stacks of books at home, was a separated workspace. A collaborative space for rent by small start up companies. It announced itself to the neighborhood, as a prominent, publiclyavailable place for all. The publishing company sat humbly below street level, underneath the hill, an arena of designers, editors, and salespersons. She watched them buzz about, through the windows, before reaching the entry. As the glass doors slid aside she felt the rush of chilled air and the ever present smell of new books. The bookstore was stocked with the publisher’s newest editions and from the aisles she could hear the workers below chatting and typing away. The gentleman behind the desk pointed her towards the elevators, to go below and as she went she pulled out her resume scanning it one more time. She took a deep breathe as she stepped out into the bright and open office.

Home One | Interactive Star Wars Experience Home One is a transportable Star-Warsthemed adventure ride, designed as part of the Disney Imaginations Competition, and based on the iconic ship that led the rebellion to victory in the battle over Endor. The ride is composed of recognizable locations from the previous films that are placed into the narrative context of the new films. Able to move from town to town this attraction will provide many new and longtime fans with an immersive experience alongside familiar characters. The ride is composed of four massive domes composing the interplanetary space port that will transfer people from their town up to the ship, which hovers above the city. Once aboard Home One visitors experience an alarm which triggers a series of events taking them to Naboo, Tatooine, and beyond. On the adventure guests will be track Kylo Ren, the infamous villain and will need to work together to accomplish the mission. This ride brings an amazing new Disney story to life for audiences that cannot visit the remote Parks. It gives people all across middle America the ability to experience Disney’s Star Wars, transporting them hundreds of parsecs from their own town to a galaxy far, far away.

Nearly thirty years after the fall of the empire, Home One, the flagship of the rebellion, is still an operational warship. However in a time of relative peace the cruiser has opened its doors for the first time, to allow beings across the galaxy to enter, and tour, the ship that made way for the new republic. Guests are invited to enter the cruiser and experience the room where General Akbar and Mon Mothma presented the plans of attack to the heroes we all know and love today. Beyond the briefing room guests explore the hangar bay where they tear away on a thrilling adventure across the galaxy. Guests are offered an experience brimming with nostalgia and wonder. They are invited aboard the cruiser and rise high above their town to enter the legendary spaceship and learn the history behind the rebellion. Part way through the tour they are alerted that there has been another Kylo Ren sighting and as the only ones available to embark on this routine, yet important, mission they are whisked away. Moving from the immersive and reminiscent Home One guests go on a fast, interplanetary chase. Traveling through space they experience realistic flight movements simulated by hydraulic lifts beneath the starfighter. Through immersive 4D technology that produces smells and temperature changes guests experience the different environments with all of their senses. The ultimate goal is to place a tracking beacon on Kylo Ren’s ship. In order to stay close behind, guests interact with the environment and each other to solve problems, as members of a flight crew, each with a touch screen battle-station. Through perseverance, teamwork, and bravery these honorary scouts experience a wondrous, memorable, and captivating adventure through the new galactic republic.
