FAMILY HOUSES Architectural design 2, mentor: mag. Tomaž Krušec, Miloš Florijančič The goal of the project located in Rožna dolina was to create three concepts of single-family houses. A house with longitudinal, peripheral and net composition. The location had an important role because of the presence of the green - pond and forest on one side and the street on the other. This was led to the proper positioning of the private and public spaces of the house. In the longitudinal design is possible to see the positioning of the walls, which define the private rooms (bedrooms) overlooking the street and other open spaces which are semi/private (living room, kitchen, dining room) in both directions – towards the street and the forest. In peripheral composition the design of single-family homes is made so that private and public are directed in different directions, and connected by outer space - the atrium. Where public and private parts merge there is the living room - the place where the user is most commonly used for socializing and leisure. The network composition allows to see “the game” with the atriums which are “hugged” by the indoor spaces. In this way each space gets natural light, even if located in the middle of the house. Specialty of the house is the motion of the roof shape, which allows the light to enter in any areas. All of these concepts are a kind of function, or experiment in designing ground floor houses which can satisfy as many users as possible.

BUS STOP RUDARJEVO Workshop Črna na Koroškem, mentor: Tadej Glažar MA (BIA), Črna na Koroškem, 2012 The concept is based on the observation of nature, as well as the specific features of the place of Črna na Koroškem. The river, which flows through the city also has a special meaning - the meaning of water. Therefore, the main idea of this concept somehow replicates the wave form of water and meandering riverbed. Due to the natural gifts of the region, mainly large forests, it makes sense to take advantage of high-quality wood and create urban equipment from natural materials. The bus stop project it has been used KLH wooden panels. The waves of the river water exchanges at various levels. Sometimes the wave is high, sometimes low. You can also observe different heights of mountains that surround Črna na Koroškem. These signs are also a starting point in the design of the bus stop. The design of the bus stop is based on the turning of the river, and it shows primarily in the plan view of the structure. The bus stop is composed by a small bench and a trash can. The space above the bench is intended as information board. Trash is designed so that in the front side there is an opening to the bin, in behind there is the access for the emptying thereof. To protect against the wind from the mountains on each side there are glass panels where people who are waiting for the bus retreat to shelter from the wind.

STUDENT DORMITORY X Design studio 2, mentor: Tadej GlaĹžar MA (BIA), Ljubljana, 2011 Student campus is located north-east of Ljubljana, close to the city center. There are about 3 typologies of the student housing and all of them need a renovation because of bad condition of the build materials and non functional spaces. Block X is located on east side of the campus. The block has 7 floors. From long and dark hallway is access to 14 double rooms (12m2) that are too small. There is no common space or dinning area in the building. In every floor is small kitchen and small bathroom There is no outdoor space. The concept of renovation is to add volumes to the facade of the existing volume and also to add 2 more floors at the top. These volumes represent an extra rooms in different position and size (single or double) or they enlarge common space. Consequently every floor is different and that creates interesting and dynamic facade. After the renovation there are two apartments in one floor with 4 double rooms and 4 single rooms. Every room has their own washbasin. In larger common space all the students/rommates can eat dinner together, cook or just hang out. The space is very narrow and long but orientated to both side of the building so the light is comming from nort-east and south-west. From common space is also access to a terrace. The whole student campus is devided into different theme zones and the running path is combining it together.

RICHARD SERRA GALLERY Architectural design 3, in collaboration with: Monika Rus, mentor: mag. Tomaž Krušec, Ljubljana, 2013 The gallery is located in the center of Ljubljana precisely before Grubar palace which has a special role in the city. Therefore, the concept of gallery is based deeper into the ground as this does not obstruct the view of the palace and the visitors can concentrate on the exhibition. The gallery is dedicated in exhibition of large sculptures, which are artpieces of the renowned artist Richard Serra. As the artist himself says, it should be possible to walk through the statues, loss of orientation due to the complicated shapes of sculptures but could look at the sky and so regain orientation through it. Gallery design is based precisely on this concept, and so some statues are placed outside (the bigger), the smaller under a roof. The path leads through the gallery over ramps which separates the spaces. The route starts at the café bar and descends into deeper part, then raised and descends again through the atriums and underserved parts of the building until it leads to the rear of the building, which stays onto the existing ground before Grubar palace. The only part of the gallery which is not in-depth is the café bar with the info point and a small wardrobe. From cafes there is a view towards the greenery and the Ljubljanica river. In the building light plays a big role too, so the roof is designed in a particular way. Concrete beams allow the light inside, which creates interesting patterns in the interior. The roof that is spaced from the edge of the wall of the object transmits light through a gap to be dispersed on the wall in the interior. The idea of “cold” gallery caused by un-isolated building allows visitors a smooth and unobstructed walk through the majestic sculptures and a break in the cafe overlooking the Grubar palace and Ljubljanica river.

EHL CAMPUS HOTEL Design studio 3, mentor: Tadej GlaĹžar MA (BIA), Lausanne (CH), 2014 The concept is based on its adjustment to the terrain, which creates terasses offered as an additional space to the rooms and the public program of the hotel. Each floor has its front facade rotated towards the view of the Alpes and the campus. The atriums are placed in the middle of the object, in that way giving natural light to the public program and the communications. The rooms are lineary placed by the edges of the building, oriented towards northeast and southwest light. Three, four and five - star rooms, each one of them with its own terrace are placed on the southwest side. Five star rooms are located on the top floor, giving the wealthier guests more privacy and lots of outdoor space with the view of the Alpes. The 3 star room is comfortable and spacious despite the fact that is only a 3 star room. It contains a small, but very functional bathroom, a double bed, a small desk with a chair and plenty of storage space. South oriented rooms have terraces. The 4 star room is bigger than 3 star room. The furniture layout is very classical, but what makes this room special is a luxurious glass bathroom. The toilet itself is hidden behind a wall, but the double basins and the shower are visible from the room. The five star room is very spacious and luxurious. The living space is separated from the sleeping area, which makes the room work somewhat like a suite. The rooms are located on the top floor and have gorgeous views on the alps. Each five star room is different from the other. The facade is covered with wood and glass, and on the southwest side the guests with terraces have an option to close them with the mobile wood panels, protecting their outdoor space of the room in case of strong sunlight, wind or cold.

GREEN IN-BETWEEN Design studio Anne Lacaton, in collaboration with: Monika Homar, mentor: Anne Lacaton, mag. Tadej Glažar, Ljubljana, 2016 The main problem of existing apartments consists of the configuration of rooms and their disproportionate size - big bedrooms with a tiny kitchen and living area. They have a north-south orientation. The design concept of a renovation is based on the added volume which is offsetted from the existing volume. It allows a green gap between the two volumes as an intermediate inner courtyard creating a special atmosphere in the new apartment. Our proposal sets the orientation of the new apartments longitudinally, allowing the light to reach the new living-dining-kitchen area both from north, south and even from the green atrium. The bedrooms are plugged into the longitudinal living space. Some are oriented towards north, some have a view into the green atrium, while others face south. The living area is separated from the sleeping one by a multi-purpose closet including kitchen and utilities. Before the intervention, there was a small bathroom and a very small toilet, in the new floor plan both of them are enlarged. Existing plan has only one bedroom and a small children’s room, probably too small for its purpose. The area of the new floor plan, increased from 65sqm to 100sqm, allows for a bigger common space and 3 bedrooms. The added rooms have the access to the balcony, which is as wide as the whole width of the apartment, and twice as big as the existing one. It is oriented towards south, so in good weather condition one can catch a glimpse of the Ljubljana Castle. The whole southern façade of the added volume is composed of transparent sliding windows. Added volume’s vertical structure is made of concrete walls and steel rods for wind bracing.

MH17 MEMORIAL International competition, in collaboration with: Sabina Marov, Damian Sobol Turina, Diego Umari, Amsterdam (NL), 2014 When architectural form is reduced to its essential nature in this way, what it stages and makes visible is not itself but the life that unfolds within its limits. - A Simple Heart, DOGMA Studio (2002-2010) Idea’s main motif is location, i.e. water surface. The final form of the object is based on keeping relationship with water. Water is not reduced and replaced with artificial, but rather preserved and emphasised. The general ambience acquires plain and nonadditive character. The project goes against the conventional square; it refrains from it by evolving beside it. A new concept of space is set. Memorial approach is not what we picture as a concrete space with suggestive sculpture. The route which connects and belts everything is not visible in its entirety. It ceases to be an abstract space when one sets on a journey. Thoughts are unnecessary; the line calls to us. The line opens the view to a regulated water wilderness. By spreading, it creates a secure and spacious area, perfect to spend your day; by narrowing and depressing, the line path becomes cramped and ambience dramatic. By stepping down you let the surroundings behind and your focus becomes the path itself. Culmination happens in the narowness of the path, when the tightness becomes oppressing and you look up in the sky.

START-UP HOMES design studio 4, in collaboration with Sabina Marov, mentor: dr. Aleš Vodopivec, Ljubljana, 2013 When a person decides to leave her or his parents’ nest or student dorm and moves to a new, more private dwelling, the biggest problem is money – rent and costs. These can be reduced by rationalising construction costs. One way to reduce costs is to use so called installation walls set out on the available plot. The walls are at the same time a supporting structure. Between them, there are transverse light wooden partition walls and atriums. The space between two walls thus becomes a home which can grow in the horizontal or vertical direction. Visible difference between hard - bearing brick and light - wooden partition panels, between static and flexible. The space between the walls becomes home. By repeating the walls of the room in the two-dimensional such - barcode image view, in real space village of terraced single-family houses. The walls divide parcels and house. One house stretches between two walls, and only in that stroke are all possible future changes (entrance at the beginning, terrace and garden at the end). Annoying touchpoints between neighbors in this way disappear. The roof is also an element that underline the idea of inexpensive construction. One sloped pitch house allows natural ventilation of the house and access to natural light. The way it is set up, permits stormwater runoff to drain into a wall and over it to flow into the storage tank from which residents can benefit from the water for the household. The proposal suggests a combination of rental and owner occupied flats.

TOKYO REPLAY CENTER International competiton, in colaboration with: Primož Kastelic, Bruno Šegvić, mentor: Tadej Glažar MA (BIA), Tokyo (JP) 2013 By combining the main functional aspects, we have designed a composite form by which we gained a larger amount of open-air space, all placed within a glass cube which creates an illusion of the object’s interior to appear as if it would be open space. The volume consists of three main factors: Shopping wall - a vertical cubic that stretches through the whole lenght and height of the area. It presents a fast communication area between the storeys, and an area of commercial purpose. Cubes - a horizontal cubical volume perpendiculary placed on the shopping wall on the east side, and constructively supported by the facade on the west side. They contain different sized media rooms which can be used for karaoke singing, playing video games and all other kinds of entertainment. Auditorium - a special spatial unit placed in the underground level of the building, with a theatrical purpose and a specific kind of polyvalent-shifting tribunes. Multimedia rooms - all rooms have fully customisable simple furniture, which disassembles into the closet. Other free walls are interactive panels that offer an unique experience to all of the users. The concept combines all needed (private) space inside 8 cubes. Modules can be randomly set.
