Introductions Starting from two years ago, I have been studying architectural engineering at Hogeschool van Amsterdam. During my study in architectural engineering, I have learned about architecture and its history, renovation, construction, building management and urbanism. For the next school year I am required to do an internship as a part of my study. The purpose of this portfolio is to demonstrate my passions in architecture throughout my works.
Sincerely, Petra Moerbeek

Inspiration Indonesian architecture I grew up in Indonesia and Indonesian architecture always inspired me. I always wonder the authenticity of Indonesian architecture. Every island has its own traditional style. Central Java is the place where I lived and in the picture below you can see its traditional architectural style. I haven’t tried to work on traditional architecture yet, but in the future I want to make alterations of to the traditional architecture by combining the cultures and authentic styles of traditional architecture to create a breath-taking architecture with a pure beauty. The world and media By following architectural websites on facebook and twitter I keep myself up-todate with the development of the architectural world. Every day I have seen posts about new buildings which are very interesting and some of them inspired me.

Project Pied a terre Designing a house for an artist. In this project the students should work in pairs. My project colleague, Dineke Hart and I designed a pied a terre for the most famous pianist in Netherland, Wibi Soerjadi. After analyzing the location, his personality and his interests we designed the ‘Musical Note House’. The concept was a musical note. The musical note is hanging on the exterior of an existing large school building. Concept Musical note house
Existing building
The ‘Musical Note House’ is located on the crowded street, Wibautstraat. The position is on a higher level then the school building. Altough the house is located in the middle of the city, inside his house it is like his own world. The entrance is positioned in the school square in front of the school building. When one open the door on the ground floor, one will immediately step in to the elevator. The first floor is on 23 meters above the ground level. To enter this house, one first takes the elevator to the first floor. The first impression when one enters the elevator is small, enclosed and cramped. But when one comes out the elevator and enters the first floor, one will be overwhelmed by the view of the beautiful city Amsterdam and by the second impression, feeling free and open. Approximately 70% of the façade unit material is double glazing.

Project The Old Amsterdammer Redesigning the fountainhead plan at Borneo Sporenburg Amsterdam. It is an appartment with 180 residences with 10 different types of residences. An existing design called fountainhead, designed by an American architect, Steven Holl has never been realized. A study group of eight, Sarah vander Schilden, Thom van Maastricht, Sergio Meije, Kevin Panman, Robbin Cunningham, Pascal Veltrop and Hares Arabi and I have made a new design for the location. We named our project ‘The Old Amsterdammer’. The name comes from the label name of a famous Amsterdam’s cheese, the Old Amsterdammer cheese. The Old Amsterdammer cheese has been inspiration of our concept. Yellow inside and black outside is typically the Old Amsterdammer cheese, Just like our design which has a yellow unit facade in the inner circle and black facade at the outside facade. The Old Amsterdammer cheese has a circle form and so does our design. We wanted to make the project an eye-catcher and having association to Amsterdam.

Project Maasluisstraat Redesign the urbanism of Maasluisstraat In this project I worked individually. In this project I utilize urban villa’s to fill the middle part of the plan. The middle part is the green zone.

Project Pavillion Sloterplas Designing a pavillion at the Sloterplas, Amsterdam The main function of this pavillion is as a restaurant. At the water side there is a big terrace which is split by a running path so the terrace will be dynamic. My projectmate Mabel Keus and I wanted to give a warm ambiance by using a lot of wood. The facade is made from a glass curtain wall with wooden shelfs on it in some places. The wooden shelfs are placed closed to each other at the street side and the distance between the wooden shelfs are getting wider towards the water side.

BKV- 24 hours designing challenge This challenge was organized by the Bouwkunde vereniging HVA (BKV) with Flip Lambalk (artist), Peter de Bois (architect, Professor, MIsSU at University of Applied Sciences, Amsterdam) and Harvey Otten (secretaris at BNA kring Amsterdam- owner at Harvey Otten architectuur stedenbouw) as the juries. The task for this challenge was to come up with a plan to design a construction on the space between the Amstel station and Amstel River. All participants should stay in the competition hall for 24 hours and present their plan together with the design to the juries after the 24 hours. The top three teams who came up with the best plan and design got the opportunity to showcase / present their works at the Food and Architecture Fair Amsterdam on 23-24 June 2012 which organized by the BNA (Bond van Nederlandse Architecten). My team won the third place thus we got to present our idea and design at the fair. Our plan was to create a construction with an ecological system where they will produce / serve beef steaks and ice cream. Maquette made from food

Project Canal House Transforming and renovating an old Amsterdam Canal house. This project should be done by couples of students. I worked together with Jordy Scherrenberg. We choosed the canal house at Prinsensgracht nook Brouwersgracht. After inventorying the house we researched the materials; bamboo and zink. We used both of these material as new materials to renovate the house and gives the house a new unique facade.
