Andrews Park

Norman, OK

Located in central Norman, between Main Street and a new public library, Andrews park is an important community asset with several historic WPA era features. Its splash pad, playgrounds, new skate park and several annual events are popular among many ages, but its structures and inefficient parking need an update.

This redesign connects the fragmented area and brings in several new ameneties that pay homage to the history of the site. The plan creates pedestrian access by linking to Main Street, the library and surrounding neighborhoods to create pedestrian access. It provides new recreation and leisure opportunities for the city.

Water flows towards the site’s SW corner along the existing water channel and pools between the amphitheater seating & stage. The park’s pedestrian connections to the park are impeded and fractured by wide streets and parking lots. The primary entrance with native stone gates is covered with overgrown shrubbery & does not feature the proper width of sidewalk.
