White Goose Bistro Comedians are serious about making people laugh, just like chefs are serious about making the best food they can for their customers, whether that plate has a burger or oven-roasted duck confit. That’s always been the case at White Goose Bistro since it opened its doors 10 years ago. The small family business prides itself on its ability to offer whatever dining experience area residents are looking for, from the quick, casual business lunch to the more formal dinner with someone special. “White Goose is more than the restaurant you go to for that romantic date night,” said restaurant co-owner Fallon Cyre Moreland. “You can come in dressed up or dressed down.” That variety is reflected in the menu, from the $11 express lunch offerings to the yellow fin tuna served rare for dinner. The dinner menu is as diverse as a five-course dinner chosen by the chef with wine pairings to a perfectly seared steak. “We’ve got a passionate chef who loves to cook and thoroughly enjoys creating off-menu.” The same approach to fun, tasty food is taken in both the White Goose catering service, as well as the food truck, popularly known as The Gosling, which can be found at various outdoor special events during the summer. “We have stayed with our concept since day one,” said chef and co-owner Ryan Cyre. It’s about serving good food and staying true.”

The Celt The luck of the Irish continues at the Celt Family Restaurant in Prince George. The Celt, which opened on April 17, has decided to keep the family friendly Irish Pub style it had in its previous life. “I enjoyed the warm, comfy friendly feeling and that is something we are going to continue,” said Celt Manager, Darryl Colley. “As we start updating during the summer, we will continue to stick with that family feel and we want people to come in and get that same feeling.” The warm atmosphere offers private booths with a pub like feel and a menu that continues to offer many of the city’s favourites as well as new items to appeal to many different appetites, big and small. “About 30 to 40 per cent of the menu is brand new and the rest is from a previous life,” Colley said. We have many signature items, some Irish and some pub fare. The appetizer list is long and delicious. Get ready to try one of the best reuben sandwiches in town and other delectable dinner options including Westport chicken and Bronto ribs. Bring a big appetite. It’s a huge meal! The Celt also prides itself on offering a variety of gluten friendly options including a gluten free heavenly decadent brownie for dessert. We celebrate birthdays at The Celt and have discounts for the birthday person, on the day of their meal. Contact us for details.

The Twisted Cork It’s been eight years since the Twisted Cork opened its doors in downtown Prince George. “It’s been an amazing time,” said owner Troy McKenzie. Built on a concept of upscale home cooking with a twist, the restaurant offers a menu full of local meat and produce, which compliments an extensive wine list that highlights B.C. wineries. “We have a list that is constantly growing to give seasonality,” McKenzie said. “And it’s amazing to be able to collaborate with someone you can trust.” For McKenzie, that’s Chris Angus, his good friend and the head chef at the Twisted Cork. “He’s talented and experienced. We wanted to give people a casual/ fine dining experience and I think we are successful because we fill in that niche here,” McKenzie said. “This business is about gaining confidence from your customers in atmosphere, quality service and consistently providing good food. That is our recipe for success.” The Twisted Cork particularly prides itself on being able to serve all Prince George residents in all circumstances. “We want people to know that they can walk in wearing a ball cap or suit and feel equally as comfortable,” McKenzie explained. Diners can enjoy a casual lunch with fish and chips a salad or a wrap. Shiraz continues to add flavour to diversity with a desire to represent the hospitality and culture of the middle east. It’s with love and passion, Shiraz owner, Reza Akbari relives his childhood dream everyday by bringing the first ever Persian restaurant to Prince George in 2012. “This restaurant is a real reflection of what I wanted to bring into this community,”Akbari said. “We can only move forward if we can break down the cliches and taboos of the Middle East. I want to educate people and make a representation that is real, true and positive.” And it’s through exceptional service and good food that people keep coming back to experience the many colourful flavours Shiraz has to offer. “Like music, food is an international language,”Akbari said. “Our food resembles Mediterranean/Greek style cuisine and fruit is a main feature because of the geography of the middle east.” All of the food is authentic and homemade including Persian delights from appetizers, lunch, dinner and desserts fresh from the kitchen. Live music has become a staple at the restaurant with many local, national and international performers regularly taking to the stage. Pictures of people and places fill the walls adding to a vibrant Persian yet personal touch. But hospitality remains number one on Akbari’s list. “In our language we have a saying that translates to a ‘guest being a gift from god’. And I am so thankful to the people of Prince George. We are here because of them and because of our love and passion for this place.”

The Boston Pizza Concept continues to be about bringing a fun family environment. Since the first restaurant opened its doors in 1964 in Edmonton, Alberta, the franchise continues to grow and is now No.1 in Canada with over 325 restaurants across the country. Partners, Jim Treliving and George Melville continue to expand the Boston Pizza vision as the chain makes its mark in Prince George. With two Boston Pizza Restaurants in town, the brand remains as popular as ever offering a variety of traditional and specialty pizzas and pastas along with traditional family friendly choices including burgers and ribs. “We try to revamp the menu regularly just to keep things fresh and new,” said Boston Pizza Assistant General Manager, Boyd Marchand from the Vance Street location. “But we do have our favorite choices and that’s still pizza. “And our dough is made fresh every morning,” Marchand said. “Boston Pizza is all about family. You can watch sports any time of the day offering a bit of that pub atmosphere, but we always accommodate the many families we have too. This is the biggest thing for us is providing that family restaurant feel.” Boston Pizza offers regular promotions including the ever popular ‘Love Pasta Tuesdays’ but of course, pizza remains No.1. Whether eating in or taking home, Boston Pizza delivers and orders are accepted on-line.

Karahi King It’s been 10 years since Hardeep Gill and his wife Jagdish opened the Karahi King. The couple’s secret to a successful restaurant is dedication in continuing to bring an authentic taste of India to Prince George. “It takes a lot of hard work, but we do it all together,” Gill said. Jagdish, an award winning chef, won the Iron Ore Chef Challenge in 2015. By blending and grinding her own spices, the many curries of Karahi King continue to fill the air with an irresistible aroma of spices and fresh herbs. Whether enjoying the daily lunch buffet, having dinner in the comfortable dining room, or taking a meal home for the evening after a busy day at work, there is a wide variety of homemade curries to choose from. Karahi King serves deliciously traditional dishes in a Karahi, a type of heavy sided cooking pot. Karahi also refers to curry dishes cooked in this way. After being marinated with special blends of spices and fresh herbal ingredients, dishes are prepared in a Tandoor, a special clay oven where each dish is cooked over a charcoal fire. Indian breads are freshly baked by placing them on the hot surface of the Tandoor. Signature dishes include, Chicken tikka, Chicken or lamb korma and lamb Roganjosh. The bar also offers an extensive liquor menu with popular Indian beer to choose from such as Kingfisher and Taj Mahal. “For us, we want to provide the best service with good food for the people in Prince George. That’s what we love. Meeting people every day.”
