Like tennis? Feel the “love” at Bradys Run indoor tennis facility Maybe you played tennis when you were younger and would like to ease back into it, either for enjoyment or exercise. Or perhaps you have never played but have always wanted to learn tennis. Now is your chance to “feel the love.” Several instructors at the Bradys Run indoor tennis facility in Beaver Falls will be setting up tennis clinics geared towards older
adults—if enough seniors inquire, that is. So find your tennis shoes, pick up your racket and call to express your interest, or get a handful of friends together and sign up. Court time is available throughout the day, with lots of openings in the mornings and early afternoons. “Clinics will based off of the availability of the senior population,” explains
Duane Hardek, a certified instructor with the Beaver Valley Tennis Association. “If we get enough seniors who are interested, we can tailor the clinics to their needs.” Beginner senior tennis clinics provide instruction on the basics of forehands, backhands, volleys and serving. The clinics are a combination of 2015 King Features Syndicate, Inc.

Like tennis? Feel the “love” at Bradys Run indoor tennis facility Continued from page 1 warm-up activities and some tennis drills, and then of course we play some games,” Duane explains. The benefits of tennis Studies show that tennis is a good sport for seniors to play in order to improve their overall health and fitness. (In fact, it is known as a sport that can be played for a lifetime.) It burns calories, strengthens muscles, increases bone mass, and lowers body fat. Best of all, it is fun playing tennis with friends as part of a weekly social activity. For those who have a reduced range of motion or movement, lower-compression tennis balls can be used that move more slowly, bounce lower and don’t travel as far as regular tennis balls. The four indoor, color-coated tennis courts are backed by a quarter inch of plexi-cushion. The surface is “medium pace”, while the cushioned layer provides comfort for less leg and back fatigue.

Are you paying a friend or neighbor to sit with your loved one while you run errands? Do you hire an aide from a local agency to come and bathe your loved one on a weekly basis? Are you purchasing a large amount of adult diapers and pads? Are you thinking about installing a stair glide or ramp to help your loved one manage the stairs? Have you thought about purchasing a lift chair, tub seat or portable commode? Are you a grandparent living with and legally responsible for your grandchild? Are you looking for books on how to handle caregiver stress? Would you like to attend a caregiver luncheon with an educational speaker, entertainment and free gifts?
If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions, the Caregiver Program may be exactly what you need. We can reimburse caregivers for their expenses for preapproved services, supplies, assistive devices and home mods. Paid caregivers are not eligible for this program. A Care Manager will visit and assess your needs. Verification of household income is required and determines the reimbursement percentage. Assets of the older person and their spouse are also reviewed. This is a wonderful program with the goals of providing support to you, the caregiver, and helping to keep your loved one at home. Call the Beaver County Office on Aging to take advantage of this funding; ask for the Information and Referral Department at (724) 847-2262 or (888) 548-2262. BCSN
