spendingg time spe

together as a family f

We understand the importance of family time Spending quality time together as a family can sometimes be a challenge. Different interests, work and other commitments, as well as the cost of keeping everyone happy, can sometimes get in the way. That’s where Family Adventures comes in.

families – it’s better together We’re proud of the range of guests that we welcome every year. From first-timers to regulars, from single parents, groups of family friends and large families, to grandparents, families with young children, families with teenagers and everything in between! Our holidays are the perfect package for any family. They focus on spending time together and having loads of fun.

single parents Our sociable, fun holidays are great if you’re a single parent looking for a great holiday or taking the kids away on your own for a change. We also have rooms in most centres that avoid ‘low-occupancy’ supplements that other companies often charge.

groups

“You are made to feel so welcome irrespective of your ability. This makes a single parent want to return year on year, in fact a week is not enough!” Sharman family

M

We’re experts at working with groups of any size and our varied activities keep every family member engaged and involved. Many of our families come with other families and friends and it’s a perfect way to meet up with old acquaintances or try something new with your usual crowd. We even have dedicated larger family rooms at several centres and offer an extra 10% off for a group booking of seven or more people.

Fantastic family adventures that won't break the bank Our holidays are perfectly packaged and honestly priced. Unlike many other family holidays almost everything you need is included in our price and once you arrive there are no expensive surprises to spoil your holiday. All our holidays include accommodation, three meals a day, all your programmed activities, equipment, instruction and more! All you need to do is bring some money for extra treats in our small on-site shops, for a glass of wine at the end of the day or if you’re taking a day out to do your own thing. We don’t try to sell you lots of extras once you arrive or overprice anything you might want. We try to take away these worries and take care of things that normally cost you time and money on another family holiday, leaving you free to make the most of every moment together.

our team and yours

We’ve been leading the way for over 50 years PGL are market leaders of exciting but safe adventure holidays – so rest assured you’re in capable hands. As well as ensuring your safety, our staff are part of your family holiday too – organising, encouraging, entertaining, caring and supporting. Our team is there to make sure you and your team have a great time. We plan our programmes and organise things so that you don’t have to. We get some lovely feedback from guests but it’s always the way our team supports, encourages and has fun with our families that receives the most praise. We ensure each member of staff is highly trained and equipped with the skills, knowledge and attitude to make things work. They enforce the highest possible standards and we have an excellent safety record. Our instructors all hold formal qualifications from their relevant sports’ national governing bodies or, where no recognised qualifications exist, we have verified in-house training and assessments.

“All staff in all areas - catering, cleaning, activities, bar - were very friendly, enthusiastic, helpful and caring. They made you feel like you were the first people they had instructed and were never just going through the motions.” Smith family

bringing it

all together

The perfect setting for your adventure holiday Our centres have been developed by us to create unique, specialist venues for activity holidays, in a wide range of beautiful and convenient locations.

our centres Each centre has its own style and ‘feel’ – we’ve got mansion houses set in grand estates, log cabins in the woods, and chalets with fantastic sea views. Some are small, homely and traditional, whilst others are larger or more modern in design. Most have cosy bars and lounges for guests to chill out in after a busy day of activities. Some have games rooms to keep the kids entertained, a number have swimming pools and a variety of outdoor sports pitches. We also operate small on-site shops selling drinks, snacks, basic essentials and gifts. From Scotland to the South of France, we’ve got a wide variety of locations to choose from.

accommodation

“The range of activities was great and the group we were in was fantastic as we all got on really well and are meeting up again shortly! Thank you.” Alday family

M

We provide simple but comfortable indoor accommodation at all of our centres. All bedrooms offer en-suite or nearby bathrooms for the private use of your family. We also offer three centres with tented villages alongside our indoor accommodation. We offer great value family rooms or separate parent and child bedrooms at many of our centres, to suit your preference or budget. Rooms contain a mix of twin or bunk beds with comfortable mattresses and all bedding supplied*.

Q&A what’s the accommodation like? do I need to bring my own bedding? Our accommodation is clean and functional rather than luxurious, with most rooms having bunk beds. Bedding is supplied (with the exception of tents at Domaine de Segries and on the overnight bivouac at Lou Valagran) but you do need to bring your own towels. Rooms are either en-suite or have a private bathroom nearby for the exclusive use of your family. You will not have to share a bathroom with another family, with the exception of The Campsite at Boreatton Park, cabins at Lou Valagran and the Tented Village at Domaine de Segries. All tented/cabin accommodation has shower/toilet blocks for the exclusive use of Family Adventures' guests. We offer a choice of rooms for smaller families where there are no under-occupancy charges but where these are not available an additional supplement may apply, depending on room type and family size. Accommodation varies slightly at each centre. Please contact us for full details.

what kind of food can I expect on a PGL holiday? We’ve worked closely with leading catering organisations to develop a simple, balanced diet, where even the fussiest eater should still feel comfortable – particularly after an exhilarating day of activities. We aim to provide three healthy, high-energy meals per day, with plenty of variety that supports the 5-a-day campaign and reduce added salt, sugar and fat where possible. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will usually be served in the dining room, although at some centres there may be a barbecue on one evening during the week. The meal will always include a vegetarian option and we will try to provide a taste of local cuisine whenever possible. At overseas centres a glass of wine will be available for parents to enjoy with their evening meal (drinks will also be available to purchase at the bar at an additional cost). Tea and coffee are available throughout the day in the lounge area and at some centres we provide tea and coffee making facilities in your room.

what time can I check in/out? Check-in time on a seven night holiday is usually between 4-6pm and guests will usually need to check out of their rooms between 9-11am on the day of departure (times may differ for shorter breaks and adventure days depending on centre).

I have a child under five – can I bring them along on a PGL holiday? Under fives are welcome, and now travel for free on Multi Activity holidays, but will not be able to take part in many activities. Five and six year olds will be able to participate in most activities subject to assessment by PGL instructors. We regret that we are unable to provide a child care service for children not taking part in activities. Baby equipment, including cots, is available at some centres – please request details at time of booking.

will there be anyone other than families at the centre whilst I’m there? There may be some other children or groups on holiday at the centre whilst you are there. These guests are supervised by PGL staff and will have a completely separate activity programme, accommodation and social facilities.

PGL camp kit for children cost per pack £29

Each PGL Camp Kit Pack contains*: We have been operating children’s activity holidays for over 50 years and we have found • Rucksack – a substantial • Disposable camera (24 exposures) day pack, ideal for use that the following items are some of the most useful and practical for PGL holidays. • Pen as dry bag You can now pre-order our camp kit pack when you make your booking and it will • Fling ring • Baseball cap be ready for collection on arrival. It is important that everyone travelling with PGL has holiday insurance. Experience has shown that standard policies do not cover all our activities, e.g. motorsports, abseiling and rifle shooting. For your protection, therefore, we have arranged a special policy with Union Reiseversicherung AG. definitions and features We would like to explain some of the definitions and features of our insurance cover for you. Cooling Off Period Your policy contains a 14 day cooling off period, during which you can cancel the policy and get a refund, if you have a justifiable reason for being dissatisfied with the cover it provides. Pre-existing Health Conditions If any participant, or any other person on whom the travel plans depend (eg. close relative), has ever had treatment for any heart condition or circulatory condition, a stroke or high blood pressure, any breathing condition (including asthma), any type of cancer, any type of diabetes, any psychological condition, any existing injury or other serious recurring medical condition, any condition requiring long-term, prescribed medication or if you or they are receiving or awaiting investigation for any medical condition, you must advise the insurers directly to see if additional cover is available. Insurers reserve the right to impose terms. You will receive confirmation in writing of their decision. Conditions, Exclusions & Terms Conditions and exclusions will apply to individual sections of your policy while general exclusions, conditions and terms will apply to the whole policy. Property Claims These claims are paid based on the value of the goods at the time you lose them and not on a “new for old” or replacement cost basis. Policy Limits Most sections of the policy have limits on the amount the insurer will pay under that section. Some sections also include other specific limits, for example for any one item or for

valuables in total. You are advised to check your policy if you intend taking expensive items with you, which we advise against. Policy Excesses Under some sections of the policy claims will be subject to an excess. This means that you will be responsible for paying the first part of the claim. The amount you have to pay is called the excess. Reasonable Care You need to take all reasonable care to protect yourself and your property, as if you were uninsured, otherwise your claim may be refused. Complaints The insurance policy includes a Complaints Procedure which tells you what steps you can take if you wish to make a complaint. Dangerous Sports or Pastimes If you are going to take part in dangerous sports or pastimes where there is a risk of injury, check that your policy covers you. All activities officially organised and implemented by PGL are covered. Policy Document This gives full details of what is not covered and conditions of the cover. A copy will be sent on booking, or earlier on request. Law The Insurance Policy will be subject to the law of England and Wales unless otherwise agreed. Please ensure you read your insurance policy carefully. Failure to comply with the terms and conditions of the policy may result in cover being restricted. PGL is an Appointed Representative of Fogg Travel Insurance Services Limited who with the Insurers are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

booking conditions Please take the time to read the following terms and conditions carefully. They are the basis of the contract between yourself and PGL. A contract will exist between us when we have taken your booking and required payment. You will then automatically receive a confirmation invoice detailing exactly what has been booked. If you think anything is incorrect please contact us straight away. All correspondence will be with the person named on the confirmation invoice who accepts the following conditions on behalf of all participants. The contract between us is governed by English Law and any dispute will be dealt with under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. Any monies paid to an appointed agent will be held by the agent for PGL until they are paid over to PGL. Your final payment and travel tickets The balance of your account is payable not later than 12 weeks before holiday commencement. If payment is not made by the due date, we reserve the right to

advise you of the cancellation of your holiday booking and make a cancellation charge at the appropriate rate. Full payment must accompany bookings made within 12 weeks of departure. The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 require us to provide security for the monies that you pay for the holiday booked from this brochure and for your repatriation in the event of our insolvency. We provide this security by way of a bond held by ABTA. Changing your booking or travel If, after you have confirmed your booking, you wish to make any alterations, an administration charge of £25 will be made per amend. Any such amendment may be telephoned to PGL in the first instance but must be confirmed in writing immediately thereafter with the appropriate amount enclosed. However, if a major amendment is requested less than 8 weeks prior to the starting date of the holiday, we reserve the right to treat your request as a cancellation and charge the

appropriate cancellation fee as detailed below. In order that all our staff have the correct information we cannot accept additions or alterations to coach/ ferry travel arrangements within 7 days of the commencement of the holiday. If we are forced to make changes PGL will do its utmost to provide all of the arrangements that have been confirmed, but must reserve the right to alter or cancel any activities, accommodation or other arrangements, including escorted travel, if operational, weather or other considerations so dictate. If we have to make a major change to your holiday, we will offer a suitable alternative if available, or 100% refund, if we are not able, in our opinion, to offer an alternative that is sufficiently comparable. Compensation will be paid as detailed right if we have to make a major change to your holiday within 8 weeks of holiday commencement, unless the change is due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to war, riot, civil commotion, act of

et altog her more i nfor mation God, industrial dispute, Government action, epidemic, disease, adverse weather or natural disaster. 56–29 days 10% of holiday price 28–15 days 15% of holiday price 14 days or less 25% of holiday price The price of your holiday is subject to surcharge due to unforeseen increases in fuel costs, Government imposed increases e.g. changes in VAT or adverse currency exchange rate variations. Even in this case, we will absorb an amount equivalent to 2% of the holiday price which excludes insurance premiums and any amendment charges. Only amounts in excess of this 2% will be surcharged but, where a surcharge is payable, there will be an administration charge of £1 together with an amount to cover agents’ commission where relevant. If this means paying more than 10% of the holiday price, you will be entitled to cancel your holiday with a full refund of all money paid except for any premium paid to us for holiday insurance and amendment charges. Should you decide to cancel because of this, you must exercise your right to do so within 14 days from the issue date printed on the surcharge advice. The prices of our holidays abroad have been fixed according to an exchange rate of 1.19 Euros to £1 as published in the Financial Times on 26 Sept 2013. You will be notified 8 weeks before departure if a surcharge is due on your holiday. Cancelling your holiday or travel If you find that you cannot take your PGL holiday and have to cancel, for whatever reason, your deposit will be forfeited to cover our costs. If we receive your written cancellation within 56 days of your holiday commencement date, higher cancellation charges will be made, as follows: 56 to 29 days prior to commencement – 30% of the total holiday price 28 to 15 days prior to commencement – 45% of the total holiday price 14 to 1 days prior to commencement – 100% of the total holiday price On or after the commencement date – 100% of the total holiday price The date of effective cancellation is calculated on the day of receipt of written advice in our Reservations Department. Coach/ferry travel costs are forfeited unless written cancellation is received more than 14 days prior to holiday commencement. Your PGL holiday insurance may cover the cost of cancellation. If in doubt don’t hesitate to contact our brokers, Fogg Travel Insurance Services, on 01623 631 331. Any complaints? If there is any problem with the holiday, we want to hear about this as soon as possible. Any concerns should be brought to the attention of the Centre Manager/senior member of staff immediately and we will do our utmost to put things right for you. Please note that we are not responsible for any issue, which you were aware of but did not bring to our attention during your holiday. Any reported issue, which has not been resolved to your satisfaction during your holiday, should be advised in writing to PGL within 28 days of the end of your holiday. If you are still unhappy, your complaint may be referred to arbitration under a special scheme arranged by the Association of British Travel Agents in conjunction with the Institute of Arbitrators. This scheme provides for a simple and inexpensive method of arbitration on documents alone, with restricted liability on a customer in respect of costs. The scheme does not apply to claims for an amount greater than £5,000 per person. There is also a limit of £25,000 per booking form. Neither does it apply to claims which are solely

or mainly in respect of physical injury or illness or the consequences of such injury or illness. The scheme can however deal with compensation claims involving minor injury or illness, subject to a limit of £1,000 per person. Application for arbitration must be made within 9 months of return from holiday. Further details can be supplied by ABTA on request. Their address is: 30 Park Street, London SE1 9EQ. Our responsibility PGL accepts responsibility for those elements of the holiday arrangements which are under our direct control, and for the acts and/or omissions of our employees, agents, sub-contractors and suppliers. Save as set out below, no liability is accepted for personal illness, injury or death. We do accept responsibility for any personal illness, injury or death which results from the negligent (as the word is understood in the English Law) acts or omissions of any servant or agent, or any supplier, working on our behalf in the provision of services or facilities to you and whilst acting within the scope of their employment. Please note that we do not accept liability for any air or sea carriers whose individual conditions of carriage apply and are often subject to international agreements. We cannot be held responsible for the failure or inability of any equipment or computer programme to recognise or correctly interpret or process any date as the true or correct date, or to continue to function correctly beyond that date. We cannot be held responsible for the loss of enjoyment or additional expenses due to delays or changes in any travel arrangements or other services which are caused by circumstances amounting to force majeure, such as, but not limited to war, riot, civil commotion, act of God, Government action, epidemic, disease, natural disaster, industrial dispute or adverse weather conditions. We can only be liable for the provision of special requests where we have confirmed their availability in writing. Should you or any member of your party have the misfortune to suffer illness, injury or death during the period of your holiday, arising out of an activity which does not form part of the arrangements made by us, we shall, where appropriate, and subject to our reasonable discretion and prior agreement, give you and your family every help that we can by way of initial assistance, including initial legal costs associated there with, up to a maximum value of £5,000 per booking form. You must request such assistance within 90 days from the date of the misadventure and in the event of there being a successful claim for costs against a third party or there being suitable insurance policies in force, the costs incurred by PGL shall be recoverable from yourselves. We shall not be liable in respect of any loss of profits, damage to goodwill or any type of special, indirect or consequential loss even if such loss was reasonably foreseeable or we have been advised of the possibility of you incurring the same. Subject to the above, and excluding liability for death or personal injury, our liability shall be limited to £15,000 pounds sterling in respect to any one claim. Your responsibility It is the responsibility of the person making the booking to fully advise PGL of any disabilities, social or behavioural problems that a member of the party currently has, or has recently experienced, which might affect them or other guests during the holiday. We will be pleased to advise you whether we have the staff and facilities to provide an appropriate holiday in these circumstances, with particular reference to such considerations as access, successful participation and health and safety. The person making the booking also accepts

responsibility for advising PGL of dietary requirements and swimming ability of all members of the party. We reserve the right to exclude any person after holiday commencement if his/her behaviour is incompatible with the general enjoyment and wellbeing of others. The person making the booking accepts responsibility for any repatriation costs incurred together with any additional costs incurred at the centre. For overseas holidays, please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that all members of the party are in possession of a 5 or 10 year passport and a European Health Insurance Card. You can obtain an EHIC on line at www.ehic.org.uk, by calling 0300 330 1350 or from your local Post Office. For further information on the country to be visited, please check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/ or visit ABTA’s website www.abta.com. ABTA PGL Travel Ltd is a Member of ABTA with membership number V2683. ABTA and ABTA Members help holidaymakers to get the most from their travel and assist them when things do not go according to plan. We are obliged to maintain a high standard of service to you by ABTA’s Code of Conduct. For bookings to UK centres and to overseas centres by coach, PGL Travel Ltd holds a bond with ABTA. This arrangement means your money will be refunded or you will be brought back to the UK (where your contracted arrangements include return travel to the UK) if already abroad in the unlikely event of our being unable to provide your holiday due to our insolvency. For further information about ABTA, the Code of Conduct and the arbitration scheme available to you if you have a complaint, contact: ABTA, 30 Park Street, London SE1 9EQ. Tel: 020 3117 0500 or visit the ABTA website at www.abta.com. Personal property Your personal property, including baggage, is your own responsibility at all times, unless any loss or damage is due to our negligence or failure to carry out our responsibility. Please note that an adventure holiday is not the place to bring mobile phones, expensive watches, jewellery or other precious items which may not be covered by the PGL insurance. Photography We regularly take photographs and videos for promotional and training purposes. If you do not want any member of your family to appear in these, you must write to PGL Customer Service and inform PGL staff on arrival at the centre. Data Protection The personal information requested at the time of booking and on subsequent proformas is held on computer and required to allow our employees, agents, sub-contractors and suppliers to provide the promised holiday to our normal high standards. By providing us with the information required for booking you are deemed to accept the above and to have gained consent from all members of your party to disclose their details to us. At the time of booking or requesting a brochure, whichever is sooner you will be asked if you wish to receive future mailings from PGL and/ or carefully selected third parties. If you do not wish to receive these mailings, please advise at the time. If you wish to confirm or change your status, please contact the PGL Marketing Department, Alton Court, Penyard Lane, Ross-on-Wye, HR9 5GL.
