Great for Year 7s

Orientation Camp Facing change with confidence

How does it work?

Changing schools is a big step that can be challenging for any child as they cope with new situations, new friends, new teachers and unfamiliar environments.

Adventure activity sessions are tailored to meet your objectives and designed to stimulate learning, growth and confidence.

A PGL Orientation Camp helps students meet these challenges and build the foundations of a successful school career.

Our instructors help your students assess and understand what they have learnt in the activity sessions and how this impacts on their behaviour.

It‘s an ideal way to encourage your year groups to bond, build trust and forge stronger relationships with each other and with you, their teacher, outside the classroom.

The program is ideal for getting the new school year off to a motivating and inspiring start, for whole year groups as well as single classes.

New for 2020

Great for Years 8-10

The Amazing Adventure Camp Encourage independence, teamwork, and leadership Targeted at Year 8,9 and 10 students, this camp encourages students to develop independence and self-reliance in a safe bush environment. In this ‘Amazing Race’ style camp student teams take part in a series of tasks, earning points as they go. Points awarded for activities and challenges accumulate as the camp progresses, and are tallied on a board for all to see. Tasks are designed to help students recognise the need for a positive mental attitude and help them find common ground, build rapport, and learn survival techniques along the way.

How does it work? The Amazing Adventure Race requires students to work in groups to reach specific points on a map. At each location, they use initiative, teamwork and perseverance to perform challenging, fun and creative tasks, earning points as they go. More points can be earned throughout the camp – which team can scream the loudest on the giant swing?? Who gets closest to the bullseye in archery? This program lends itself to camping out in our hiking tents, but we offer alternative bunk-style indoor accommodation or our platform and bell tents. Or get the best of both worlds with a 50/50 camp: one night in, one night out!

Camp Out Experience A learning experience like no other

How does it work?

Experience camping in the great outdoors, in PGL’s own bushland with the help of our experienced PGL leaders.

We combine the best of outdoor experiences by providing your favourite adventure activities with the unbeatable experience of sleeping outdoors. We use hike tents to create an authentic camping experience and you can choose one or two nights under canvas.

In the supported setting of PGL sites, students immerse themselves in learning about the detail of the natural Australian bush environment. A 24-hour outdoor experience, that introduces camping skills, living with nature, cooking for yourself and outdoor living. It’s ideal for those who want to participate in a back-to-nature experience to develop mindfulness, resilience and leadership skills, in a typical bush setting.

This program can be tailored to meet your group’s required learning outcomes. Our skilled PGL staff can tailor the bush camp to be as challenging as you require, and incorporate elements such as compass navigation, water filtration and survival skills.

Great for Year 10+

Study Skills Retreat Preparation is the key to success

How does it work?

Give your students entering higher year levels the skills to thrive, with a Study Skills Retreat camp.

Usually run in the very first weeks of the year, or after end-ofyear exams, a Study Skills Retreat is a mix of seminar sessions and adventure activities programmed to support problem solving and encourage determination.

Taking time out of the classroom and school environment provides the opportunity to learn, reflect and connect with senior teachers and peers, while developing important skills for study. It’s a specialised activity program designed to teach resilience, perseverance, and importantly, when to ask for help. PGL Study Skill Retreats help keep students motivated, focussed and engaged, with our unique combination of adventure activities run by us, and study time run by you, the teacher.

PGL provides quiet meeting spaces with AV equipment as required, for you to run study skills sessions, stress management strategies or introduce the subject work to the senior students, whatever you wish to teach. Full catering, including morning and afternoon teas and supper is included.

Safety & Standards PGL’s Safety Management System has been developed over more than 60 years of operation in the UK and Europe to meet the requirements of students, parents, teachers, school councils and external accreditation schemes. Our policies and procedures meet state and federal Education Safety Guidelines and we ensure we also comply with and exceed the guidance set out in the Activity Standards for Adventurous Activities. n Roles and responsibilities are clearly set out for teachers and PGL staff to ensure there is a clear understanding of who is responsible for the students at all times, with particular reference being made to the delivery of activities, First Aid and dealing with emergencies. n Our Child Safe Policy outlines our procedures to keep children safe from harm and abuse. It achieves this by promoting the safety of children, managing the risks and ensuring effective processes are in place to report any allegations of child abuse. n Our recruitment and training policies ensure competent staff are deployed to undertake the specialist roles within the delivery of the programs.

Camp/Adventure Activity Provider Accreditation PGL is proud to have received accreditation from the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program (ATAP) - Camp/Adventure Activity Accreditation for Camp Rumbug and Campaspe Downs. Details of the accreditation process can be found at www.atap.net.au

Travel Transport is not included in the price of your camp; if you require transport, please contact us and we’d be delighted to help.

n We appoint a highly qualified and experienced team of technical advisors to monitor and audit the delivery of the PGL experience. n By arranging teacher inspection visits and working closely with your school prior to travel to implement a robust risk assessment process, we can ensure that teachers are familiar with the activities and the environment and that the educational content of all programs meets the learning outcomes for students. n We seek to conserve the natural environment, endorsing the principles of sustainable use and minimum impact. We are sensitive to the impact of our operation on the local community and cultural setting and we endeavour to minimise any adverse effects. n An Emergency Management Plan has been developed working with local agencies and is in place to respond to incidents such as injury, illness and fire. n Public Liability Insurance Certificate (minimum $20 million) is provided by an APRA approved insurer.
