LONG EXPOSURE

PHOTO TOUR TO THE LOST EMPIRE: HAMPI The Photographer’s paradise, architecture marvel, amazing history and heritage and the words from the dictionary will fall short in praising the World’s Heritage Site Hampi. A 2 day photography tour to capture some of its heritage beauty was planned in February 2019 and in all 12 passionate photographers led by the organiser and mentor Mr. Phani was concluded with some really amazing experiences for both participants and mentor alike. Out of 12 participants, 3 kids aged 8-10 years, despite the hot and humid climate during the middle of day, made sure that our energy and enthusiasm levels were challenged to match theirs. With the previous experiences of Hampi, only selective places worth to photograph were selected along with the best possible appropriate time of the day were selected. Right from few concepts of Photography Basics to framing, composition and nuances of architecture photography were discussed in detail. The amazing part of the tour were kids, who had never-say-die attitude towards exploring the places and also experimenting all possible shots and few of them with absolute perfection. Everybody in the group was simply amazed with the kind of enthusiasm and focus they brought to the tour.

DEPTH OF FIELD

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS Guided and Mentored Workshops result in considerable learning in detail about a genre of photography as the focus is on the nuances of that genre. TCPC conducted two such focussed workshops on Architecture Photography at Paigah Tombs and Ammapalli Temple. Both the places have intrinsic architecture, the first one from the Mughal Era and the latter one is around 1000 years old. Both the places oer a plethora of options to learn and experiment various kinds compositions in architecture photography. Architecture Photography workshop at Paigah Tombs was conducted on 10th March 2019 and overall 8 Participants including 3 dynamic kids who were eager to explore the place with their own creative and fresh perspectives. Some of the glimpses of the workshop.

Architecture Photography workshop at Ammapalli Temple was organised on 30th March 2019 and 12 participants attended. We had explored the basic architecture concepts and experimented all possible creative compositions like frame in a frame, sun-burst, sunset and low-light. Couple of participants did a time-lapse of the sunset drama. The sky was marvellous and participants got some really good perspectives from the location. Some of the glimpses of the workshop are below.

FOCUS

BASICS OF PHOTOGRAPHY The objective of this session is to allow the participants to make them understand the purpose of DSLR Photography and also empower them to handle and shoot in manual mode. We believe too much of information in one day also is a burden and thus it is planned as a quick 3-hour session with some provide some exercise to practice at home and subsequent photo-walks and workshops that they may attend with us. The Basics of Photography workshop was conducted on 24th March 2019 and 5 passionate participants attended to learn about DSLR Photography. It was good interactive session and we are sure that participants did take back some good learning about Basics Concepts and hopeful that they would complete their exercises.

PHOTWALKS It’s always challenging and also unexciting to go to photograph the places alone and thus that’s the primary reason we have Photowalks, where we can go as a small group and click photographs together. Even if there is no formal guidance on photography, we will not hesitate to share some tips and tricks of the trade and some information about the place so that you are comfortable. Further, you get to know new people, new perspectives by observing other fellow photographers from the community. There were two Photowalks conducted at Gudimalkapur Flower Market on 10th March 2019 and other at Maqtha Art District on 24th March 2019. Gudimalkapur is a wholesale flower market and has lot of action and we have plenty of opportunities to get some good portraits of the vendors and sellers. Apart from that we get some action for the photo-stories. Contrary to Gudimalkapur, Maqtha is a place of Street Art, which was designed and implemented by over 30 different artists and painters from all over India and few other countries as well and implemented some stunning street art in the crowded residential place near People’s Plaza area.

PHOTO CRITIQUE (1st Edition) We always carry certain amount of emotional attachment with the photograph that we took. It generally happens because of the effort you took, its your favourite place or person’s portrait, you succeeded with a new technique or concept, there are umpteen number of reasons for it. Nevertheless, every photographer has its own perception to the same composition and thus cannot be ruled as good or bad photograph. However, the photography is said to have a blend of both Art and Science. Thus it is equally important to validate if the photograph is technically good or can it be composed and exposed differently. Keeping in mind these challenges which every amateur photographer faces, we thought of having Photo Critique and Review session in March 2019. We asked the participants to submit t h e i r p h o t o g ra p h s , w i t h o u t limiting the genre. We received more than 70 photographs for the review session. To make it more effective and engaged, we invited two eminent professional photographers who have profound experience in photography to grace our panel of judges to help us review the photographs submitted by the participants - Mr. Sharfuddin Shaikh who brings more than 2 decades of professional and commercial photography experience with him to the panel. Further, we had Mr. Charith Kandala, who is Alumni and further as faculty of Raghu Rai School of Photography for more than 8 years, brings a different kind of expertise to the panel. Along with these distinguished panel of judges, Rajeev Sharma and K Phani Kumar assisted in sharing the comments and reviews for the photographs. The reviews and comments were shared with the photographer details keeping as anonymous to the extend possible. Wherever, there is a requirement to understand the perspective of the photographer on the composition they selected, details of the photographer were disclosed. The participants found it extremely useful with the inputs on technical corrections, composition and perspectives that were shared by the panel of judges. These learnings could be put to use by the participants in their future engagements and photography. The Photo Critique sessions would be organised as a APRIL 2019
