Introduction The goniophotometer offers complete photometric characterisation of LED lampheads. A valuable tool that accelerates time to market and provides a luminaire designer with the tools, confidence and knowledge to accurately measure the performance of their design.
LIGHT THE WAY
LIGHT THE WAY
Phase 1 : Adaption to LED Over the past decades, lighting manufacturers globally have developed a variety of luminaire solutions utilising tungsten and fluorescent technologies. The “adaption phase” as we call it is the adaptation of existing luminaires from traditional light sources to LED technology. Typically manufacturers own a vast array of castings, mouldings and extrusions along with an assortment of lens and optic solutions for use across their luminaire range. In the era of lighting class LED’s, the OEM luminaire manufacturers wish to extend the life of these tools by adapting them for use with LED and improve the ROI.

Phase 2 : LED by design The LED offers a total fresh approach to luminaire design and “Phase 2” is going back to basics and designing new portfolios of luminaires without compromise around the features and benefits that LED can offer. Using LED’s gives the designer the opportunity for a truly fresh approach to luminaire design and this brings its own unique set of challenges.

SPEED
The goniophotometer motor stages can achieve an accuracy to within 0.1 degrees on each measurement axis. The measure step resolution defaults to 15 degrees on the C plane and 5 degrees on the Y plane.
The equipment can be adjusted to accommodate a wide range of lamphead sizes. Setup is simple using manually adjustable linear control stages.
Compliant measurement completed in under 50 minutes with test results that are available immediately.

Mackwell SGP Mini
Mackwell SGP Flex
The SGP Mini is a motorised goniophotometer that performs luminous intensity analysis of LEDs.
The Mackwell SGP Flex is the next generation of goniophotometer from Mackwell. With a unique design that utilises a cantilever concept to give maximum flexibility from the smallest package size for luminaires up to 600mm x 600 in size.
THE SGP MINI INCLUDES: • Chamber with special matt black non reflective interior finish. • Spectral irradiance receiver connected via fibre optic to a spectrometer. • Motor control hardware is provided in the kit. • Information is reported via a USB cable
• As the product size grows the equipment can be extended to meet the dimensional requirements of the luminaire.
LIGHT THE WAY
• Supplied with latest Mackwell control software. LIGHT THE WAY
GP equipment Operation Motor 1: Y Angle
Motor 2: C Plane
• Live feedback to user of current motor position
• Features as Motor 1, but without Home & Limit switches.
• Manual control of motor stage – Use for single measurements points. • “Home” position indicator – Microswitch activated. Scan routine cannot start unless motors are at 0° positions – ensures accuracy. • “Limit” indicator – Microswitch activated. Also acts as software kill switch to prevent motor burn out in the unlikely event of a malfunction.
• Use manual control in conjunction with motor 1 for single measurement points.
Automated Scan Routine
Routine/Program Status Feedback
• Programmable step sizes to adjust resolution or accuracy of output EULUMDAT file. Default 15°/5° step sizes required as a minimum by EN 13032-1:2004, but can be adjusted to suit user needs.
• Displays individual measurement results when used with “Measure”.
• Start test – Use after setting exposure manually or automatically from Spectroradiometer software. Initiates scan routine of measuring every elevation degree step at 0° azimuth, then returns to 0° elevation, moves azimuth by X degrees, and repeats elevation degree step measurements. • Scan can be paused and resumed at any time, or aborted completely.
PAGE 10
• During auto scan routine displays latest scan results for each angle. • If manual exposure settings used, reports previous and current exposure settings. • Scan count – performed and total. Allows calculation of estimated time remaining before scan completion. • Progress bar for easy check of scan progress.
