MANIFESTO I have identified myself to be an architect who’s more leaned to “Nature/ Ecology/ Sustainability” in manifesto project, which has profoundly influenced my architectural practice this year, reshaping my approach to design with a heightened consciousness and commitment to nature and sustainability. Through innovative design, materials, and technology, I aim to minimize the carbon footprint of my buildings while optimizing their energy efficiency and resilience.

PROJECT STATEMENT: In designing the sports park clubhouse, we draw inspiration from the natural and historical essence of the area, incorporating sustainable elements to minimize the carbon footprint. The architecture seamlessly blends with its surroundings, offering a harmonious user experience. Utilizing eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient systems, the clubhouse will stand as a testament to our commitment to environmental stewardship while providing a magnificent space for athletes and visitors to connect with nature and history. 07

Concept: My design is inspired by the dunes that dominated Athlone and its surroundings in the pre-colonial era. I want to envision a future for the region that evolves from its pre-colonial past when I design the

The building is intricately woven into the existing site path grid, with a layout carefully designed to embrace and follow the natural flow of these paths. This intentional design ensures minimal disruption to how people currently navigate and use the space, creating a seamless integration that respects and preserves the established patterns of movement within the area.

PROJECT STATEMENT: The project envisions transforming Braamfontein, renowned for its vibrant arts and diverse community, into the canvas for the creation of an “African Spiritual Home.” This concept embodies a poetic and profound idea of a space that resonates spiritually, absorbing and encapsulating the energies, emotions, and intentions of those who interact with it. The forecourt becomes a focal point, carefully designed to be spacious and inviting, serving as a hub for communal engagement and artistic expression. In essence, the project seeks to blend architectural innovation with spiritual resonance, creating a dynamic and culturally significant space that reflects the diverse spirit of Braamfontein. 15

22

PROJECT STATEMENT: The goal of this project is to design and detail an off-the-grid shelter for hikers on the renowned Otter Trail within Tsitsikamma National Park, situated along the Garden Route in the Western Cape of South Africa. The unique environment of the park, characterized by a coastal nature reserve, marine areas, deep mountainous gorges, indigenous forests, and fynbos reserves, requires a sustainable and ecologically sensitive approach to shelter design. 23
