Urban Harvest Housing with Urban argriculture

Study Model

Architecture Core Studio III (2013 Fall) Instructor: Anna Ives Shewsburry, St.Louis, USA The site is located between metro station and an abandoned river. As a housing project, my concept is to create a community with better neighborhood relationship. Instead isolated units, I put most of apratment units in a huge integrated volume with two sharing courtyards. Another mass make a connection with convenient public transportation and also block noise from metrolink. Urban farming is my strategy to revive the history of the river, the riverbed will be re-used to grow rice in an aquaponic system that can be responsive to the water supply. A huge green house with ornamental flowers and plants fills the first floor and the space will be served by artificial light with on-site photovoltaics.

Sustainable Industrial building Re-use Revit, Dynamo, Cloud Rendering, Arduino Advanced Revit Integrative Studio (2014 Fall) Instructor: Anders Nereim 4046 North Hermitage, Chicago 45,000 SQ. FT. I concentrated on designing a building with a robot arm system which ivy can grow on it. The system can actively optimize themselves over time, using low voltage photovoltaic collectors, capacitance power storage, sensors in a mesh network of completely autonomous units. They can be used for either shading or advertising. As an inconspicuous old industry building, the large glass staircase in south side is my solution to attract people’s attention from very far away. Also in this “glassbox“, clients will have very good vision about the performance of the smart skin in the courtyard of the building.

The Loop

I started this project with research Santa Monica Urban context infrastructure system. The “Loop” Pier is designed as the new landmark in Santa Monica. Not like the triditional “lines Comprehensive Studio (2014 Spring) shape“ pier, the new pier have a circle circulation connected two “highlight spaces” in both ends of the pier. All the proInstructor: Christof Jantzen grams are orgnized in the center of this big loop, provide a good view to the center pier. The pier also has potential to be Santa Monica, CA continue develop in the future. 250,000 SQ.FT.

The design is using organized units to create space and building. This is the final part of the studio, I designed a building in the high point of Forest Park, which used the characteristic of my units to enjoy the local balloon game and beautiful landscape surrounding.

the water level is changing with the rain in the site, ocal residents built the home much higher than ground level. In the park, most of the area is not accessible because the swamp-kind land is dangerous. My idea is inspired by Bald Cypress, one of few kinds of trees can survice in such extreme environment. The building will upon this swamp-kind landscape, and have a function like a web spreading out, people who using the building would have a chance to have a deeper visiting swamp which they can not reach before.

Co-working office is a hot topic. Entrepreneurship and innovation is creating new era of future. Meanswhile, as one of the largest cities in United States, St Louis is losing its charm because it is not follow rapid technological and business progress. Union Station bear witness to the prosperity of former St.Louis. The huge site only be used as a parking lot. I am trying to create a co-working complex into Union Station, a place that attract start-up companies and young St Louis entrepreneurs. A new structures system are designed between the existing truss and hanging the whole building above the ground. Ground level will be kept as a new parking lot for sharing cars to explore St Louis and a new city garden, Main level can be reached by escalator and is 38 Feet above ground. Huge open office can be shared with different companies and groups.

Cellular Transformation Cellular architecture: a dynamic form

Research Assistant Since 2013 Spring Instructor: Sungho Kim, Assistant Professor, School of Architecture Ram Dixit, Assistant Professor,Department of Biology http://pages.wustl.edu/cellulartransformation There is a shift in design process, not only to invent new materials, but to reorganize and transform the materials that currently exist in our world. The research is a project that hybrids organic and synthetic interfaces by developing a cohesive materialism where the both biological and artificial enhancements are produced. Our goal is to invent new formations of substrates and scaffolding techniques that allow cells to fabricate its own natural matrix and structural integrity by holding its own mechanical loads. The research is future of designing spatial environments where the organic and synthetic materials come together to take full advantages of ecological and sustainability processes that our world is facing.

The theme for the upcoming Expo in Astana is “Future Energy.” AS+GG’s design for EXPO-2017 will embrace the Future Energy concept by becoming the first Third Industrial Revolution city, where energy consumed by the Expo community will be provided from renewable sources. Buildings will become generators of power and their energy will be stored using innovative technologies while being distributed by a smart grid. The Expo community will provide infrastructure to encourage and support the use of vehicles that use renewable fuels.

Desert Crystallization

Hong Kong, China Beijing, China

Being astonished by the desert scenery, we realize it is nature that use her uncanny craft to shape this natural art. We wonder if we can select the right materials, friction and gravity control, rational production process to bring this magnificent spectacle in our indoor lab. Self-organized material formations is developed and threats with a crystalizing spray in order to obtain strong shell formations.

The Shared Border terminal building proposes a border crossing based on the close relation of China and Hong Kong. The proposed border crossing aims at defining the border between China and Hong Kong not as a separation between its people but as a shared location for the exchange of flows within these countries. In order to dissolve the dividing river border the cut through the two terminals is blurred by an ever present artificially produced cloud of vapor. The cloud is filling the gap and symbolizing the dissolving of the boundary between people from either side.
