Keeping Traditions Alive While Creating New Initiatives

Former National President, C.M. Thompson, once said “The past belongs to others; the present is ours; combined, they shape the future. Let us resolve, then, to pay homage to the past by setting high standards for the future.” This is exactly the mission that Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society is carrying with us in 2022 as we move toward our centennial celebration that will kick off later this year at our convention in October.

Under the leadership of our executive committee, the national office is working to provide our members with new experiences and innovative opportunities. These initiatives like our Member of Distinction program and the 5K for $10K Run for Reading are new to the Phi Eta Sigma experience, but they are also grounded in our mission and values that have existed for almost 100 years. Through our programs at the national and local level, students will be able carry the lessons learned and skills gained with them throughout their college experience and beyond.

This is set to be a landmark year for Phi Eta Sigma as we kick-off our centennial celebration in October at our convention. The theme for the convention is Facing the Future Together, and I think it is a perfect way to both celebrate our first 100 years together while also looking to our shared future. I hope all of our chapters will be able to attend this milestone event!
