About David Bury: David works in the areas of management, planning, and fundraising. Since founding David Bury & Associates in 1981, he has helped arts organizations raise tens of millions of dollars. Prior to forming DB&A, he served as Assistant Director of the Vermont Council on the Arts and Executive Director of the New England Bach Festival. DB&A’s clients have included American Composers Forum, Association of Performing Arts Presenters, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, the British Museum, Handel House, Jacobs Pillow, National Performance Network, New England Foundation for the Arts, Meet the Composer, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the Virginia Arts Festival, among others. This event is produced by the Philadelphia Music Project, an Artistic Initiative of the Philadelphia Center for Arts & Heritage, funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts and administered by The University of the Arts.

This seminar will equip arts administrators, artists, board members, and development professionals with an appreciation of how board recruiting, management, and evolution is integral to an organization’s long-term success. Participants will leave the seminar with a new understanding of how to structure an effective board, how to ensure that the board is an active and supportive part of its organization’s leadership, and how to create a board of engaged, excited, and helpful stakeholders. Much more than just a discussion on the fiduciary and administrative responsibilities of nonprofit boards, the seminar explores people's motivations for joining boards and provides valuable advice on how to obtain the ideal board for your institution.
