spire to inspire before you expire, is T. Denny Sanford’s personal mantra, but what he is committed to creating with that mantra is nothing short of extraordinary. Donating over $1.4 billion, to causes he's passionate about, definitely makes him an inspiration.

through Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). SEL is the process of helping students develop the skills to manage their emotions, resolve conflict nonviolently, and make responsible decisions. Promoting social and emotional skills leads to reduced violence and aggression among children, higher academic achievement, and an improved ability to function in schools and in the workplace. Understanding the importance and the need for SEL in schools, Sanford set out to make a difference, and a difference he has made indeed!

The cause he is most passionate about… children.

As a long-time snowbird to Scottsdale, he committed to giving Arizona students the tools necessary for them to be successful through SEL. Sanford contacted ASU and commissioned them to write a SEL curricula for elementary school children called the Sanford Harmony Program. Seeing the results elementary school children were having with his Harmony Program, he realized the need for similar programming in middle schools.

Sanford is committed to equipping students with the social and emotional learning tools necessary for them to succeed. “Most people focus on the test results instead of what really matters,” Sanford says. He saw there was a need for something more in traditional education, and took action. As a business owner, he understands that his compassion and interpersonal skills make him relatable, but he was truly successful because of the relationships he formed. Sanford is very candid about his life failures and successes, and takes responsibility for it all. He takes every experience as an opportunity, and turns his challenges into triumph by using them as resolve for the creation of his social and emotional programming for children.

At the same time, Sanford was approached by Tyree Dillingham, founder of Inspirement Tribe, about getting involved in her middle school programs. They were initially introduced through Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Dillingham worked for Schwarzenegger in the Governor’s Office and with his non-profit. As a champion of after-school programs, Schwarzenegger’s passion inspired Dillingham, and she saw the need for the addition of SEL in out-of-school time learning.

It is my privilege to support the students of Arizona through Inspirement Tribe,” said Sanford. “Their programs empower the youth of today to be the trailblazers of tomorrow, and I am honored to bring these youth-impact programs to the state.” Sanford has spent the last decade putting his money behind what he believes. “He is not just a philanthropist and an advocate, but a pioneer in the field of Social and Emotional Learning,” says Dillingham, “he is a doer, a problem-solver and the most benevolent man I know.” Sanford has signed the Giving Pledge, a commitment by the world's wealthiest individuals and families to dedicate the majority of their wealth to giving back. ub Scouts may start out as a fun, family oriented activity

where boys have a safe and positive place for educational experiences, character building, physical fitness and practical skills. Many of these boys have grown into men who are now changing the world.

A sense of value, belonging, accountability and team work have been instilled into Boy Scouts at a young age. These young men learn to be adventurous and acquire the skills to become leaders while team building and having fun. The boys are encouraged to overcome obstacles and are challenged to be courageous and to build on their skills that later form their character that will shape their lives. Community engagement, leadership development and physical fitness are all central to this program. Some of the most famous Scouts are Michael Jordan, Martin Luther king Jr., George Strait, Former Presidents of the United States, Gerald Ford and John F. Kennedy, Hank Aaron, George W. Bush, Bill Gates, Andy Griffith, Sam Walton among others who have made a mark in our world and left a legacy behind. Only 5% of Boy Scouts attain the highest rank of Eagle. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges in addition to planning, developing and giving leadership to others in a service project helpful to any public institution or the community. The project must benefit an organization other than Boy Scouts of America. Hewlett-Packard’s CTO, Phil McKinney, is an Eagle Scout. “I rebuilt three community parks that had been destroyed by youth gangs, “McKinney fondly recalls. AZcharityregister.com | 17

Lou Harris and Associates released findings in the 1995 study, “The Values of Men and Boys in America,” which state the following research supporting Scouting’s theories: In a single year, the Scouting program delivers to members six critical areas of healthy youth development: strong personal values and character, positive sense of self-worth and usefulness, caring and nurturing relationships, productive and creative use of time, a desire to Learn and social adeptness. Similar findings have been confirmed in subsequent studies by the firm. The results of the study showed that men who were Scouts in their youth were more likely than nonScouts to make ethical decisions, volunteer to be a leader, practice responsible recycling, take part in community service, and continue good health and fitness habits. • 84% of Scouts would tell their teacher a classmate brought a gun to school compared to only 71% of non-Scouts. • 61% of Scouts would not conduct an act of vandalism with their peers compared to only 53% of non-Scouts. • 83% have been in real-life situations where having been a Scout helped them to be a better leader compared to only 71% of non-Scouts. • 57% of Scouts rate their leadership skills as excellent compared to only 37% of non-Scouts. • 95% of Scouts say Scouting has influence them to take better care of the environment compared to only 84% of non-Scouts • 72% of Scouts say Scouting has had a positive effect on their health and fitness compared to only 59% of non-Scouts.

Some of the Valley’s most influential leaders were once Boy Scouts themselves and have developed a spirit of community service that as adults are helping future generations. Nationally more than 4 million boys have grown-up through the program and come away with the skills to be productive adults - with some generously giving back to the organization that once helped them. David Alexander, Eagle Scout and owner of CalJet in Scottsdale, Arizona, says that a big part of what made his Scouting experience so great was his Scoutmaster, a former Lumberjack, named, Orin Dyer who inspired a true devotion from the boys of Troop 113. Alexander found a natural affinity for the competitive nature of Scouting which inspired him to become an Eagle Scout” and to compete in an astonishing 287 triathlons in 37 countries. “I live my life by the Scout Law in my personal, business and philanthropic efforts.” Alexander became determined to recognize the organization for much of his success and wanted to continue the organization’s reach with future generations of boys. He recently gave a substantial gift to extend his vision and legacy at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia where venues and events including a lake and triathlon were named after him. “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle” goes the saying. Some successful Eagles include Walter Cronkite, Robert McNamara, Robert Gates, Donald Rumsfeld, Steve Benson and numerous astronauts including Neil Armstrong. The Silver Buffalo Award, the Boy Scouts of America’s highest honor for adult volunteers has been presented since 1926 for devoted service to Scouting on a national level. The list of Silver Buffalo Award honorees includes six Medal of Honor recipients, three justices of the U.S. Supreme Court and 14 presidents of the United States!

In his own words “camping, where interaction with the environment converges with the engagement of other Scouts, is one of those opportunities where Scouting happens, where youth learn to make ethical and moral decisions and when to lead and when to share leadership to achieve their goals.”

To that end, Eric Hiser, the standards chair for the National Camp Accreditation Program Support Committee and member of the national Outdoor Programs Support Committee, has served Scouting for 35 years. The organization today has grown to include programs that are far more reaching than in years past and growing another generation of boys that will one day certainly become the successful leaders, business owners and executives, musicians and athletes of tomorrow.

NEW SCOUTING PROGRAMS LEARNING FOR LIFE, a co-ed, researched-based academic and character development program that is integrated into, and aligns with pre-K through 12th grade core curriculum standards in all 50 states. The program uses role-playing, small-group discussions, reflective and moral dilemma exercises, and hands-on activities. Students develop academic, social, ethical, critical & creative thinking, conflict resolution, decision making, language arts, and practical life skills. They also practice good citizenship and personal fitness activities. EXPLORING, a co-ed program that helps youth ages 11 - 20 to make informed decisions concerning their career opportunities. They also study leadership, life skills, citizenship and character education.

SCOUTING THROUGH SOCCER, a co-ed program teaches character skills through soccer and offers Scouts the opportunity to attend summer camp and advance in rank. JUVENILE DIVERSION, a program in partnership with Arizona Juvenile Corrections. The program serves youth at Adobe Mountain School, Canyon State and Youth Development Institute. It teaches character development, tolerance, life skills and selfmotivation to prepare them for release. Youths must earn this opportunity by exhibiting generally good behavior.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS, uses adult volunteers and staff program aides to start Scout programs in lowincome neighborhoods. They then transition leadership to trained adult volunteers. FOSTER CARE INITIATIVE PROGRAM at the Sunshine Residential Homes provides Scouting and offers a support system for foster children living in group homes. SPECIAL NEEDS UNITS, iCamp Rainbow is a program that was developed in partnership with the American Cancer Society Camp to develop camp experiences for critically ill children. Troop 336 serves hearing impaired youths. Pack, Troop and Crew 229 serve young people with autism.

Weston Goodman and his friends delivered 100 superhero capes to kids at Phoenix Children's hospital.

Weston Goodman, a Valley Boy Scout celebrated his 14th birthday in a very selfless way. As part of his Eagle Project, he raised funds and recruited others to help him hand make and deliver 100 superhero capes to kids battling cancer at Phoenix Children's Hospital. The project took him and his six volunteers about 320 total labor hours to complete. He was inspired by his own battle when he suffered a traumatic brain injury. He said he was able to overcome it because of one thing: superheroes. During his recovery, he dressed up as Buzz Lightyear and visited other kids in the hospital, giving them hope and smiles. Weston hopes he bring that kind of positivity again Ernest Calderon, “My small hometown, Morenci, Arizona was a copper mining town where many of the fathers (or those who didn’t have fathers) couldn’t take us camping. Summer was filled with Scout camp on Mount Graham or in the Gila Mountains of western New Mexico. We all worked hard for rank because Courts of Honor were community celebrations. We had many Eagles, a plethora of Life Scouts and almost all of us earned our religious awards (mine was the Ad Altare Dei). We were introduced to Scouts from Duncan, Safford, Pima, Thatcher, Miami, Globe…many are still true friends almost 50 years later. Still fresh in my mind are those friends, doing a good turn daily, being prepared and doing duty to God and my Country.” 20 | AZcharityregister.com

The future is always open to change by the nature of one's choices. Be prepared - for life!" Troop 4, chartered by the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections, began ten years ago in the Grand Canyon Council. Since its start, 307 youth have become Boy Scouts at a secure care facility surrounded by razor wire.

Scout Parent Testimony The Scouting through Soccer Outreach program has impacted the lives of many in so many ways. “My kids wanted to play so bad for so long but we couldn’t afford the prices of other leagues. Then Five years ago my son brought the paper home from school for the Boys Scouts Scouting through Soccer program. We signed him up right away. This program has giving us the opportunity to be involved as a family. I help with the paper work and registration and my husband coaches. Michael looks forward to all the practices and games and the scouting portion of the program has taught him life lessons. Michael was in an ATV accident in September 2015. He broke his hip and had to have surgery. He was out of soccer for a year. Michael was devastated. He would sit at practice and games in his wheelchair and watch and support his team. He used the Scouting program as motivation to be able to get back out there to play and participate.” -

Throughout history, Scouts of all races and ethnicities have gone on to achieve great success in their chosen fields with many crediting their start to their association with the Boy Scouts of America. It’s a legacy that makes current and future Scouts proud.

The organization wouldn’t be what it is today with without the generous donations, large and small, from those that have supported Scouting for the past 107 years. Scouting programs always need volunteers. Adults and businesses interested in building a mutually beneficial alliance with the Boy Scouts of America can get involved with volunteer and tax credit opportunities. Passionate Spirit Fuels Heart Ball Mission to Save Lives By Carey Pena

Three massive white boards cover an entire wall in Char Hubble’s home filled with pictures, note cards and ideas, all significant elements that inspire Hubble’s vision as the 58th Annual Heart Ball Chairman. The vision culminating on November 18th will bring the Phoenix Heart Ball to life in a spectacular and vibrant way. Led by Hubble, the committee, made up of 100 dedicated volunteers, has spent the better part of 2017 working towards the goals set forth to bring such an elaborate gala to fruition and to raise urgent awareness that cardiovascular diseases and stroke cause one in three women’s deaths a year. Hubble’s efforts are well received and have a far reaching effect here in the Valley. In addition to leading this year’s efforts to bring to life the 58th Annual Heart Ball, Char and her committee are proudly continuing the work with the American Heart Association started the previous year to see that legislation is passed mandating hands-only CPR training for Arizona school children. “I admire the state of Arizona for passing the legislation and recognizing what an important issue it is to our entire state.” Hubble says. This year’s Heart Ball Executive Team, and the greater Heart Ball Committee, are focused on raising at least $100,000 dollars that will be specifically allocated to the CPR effort. Volunteering for causes to make life better for others isn’t anything new for Hubble, but her devotion and passion for the Heart Ball and the American Heart Association is a personal one. More than a decade ago, Char’s mom, Mary Jane, was hospitalized after having a severe heart attack. It was so severe paramedics were shocked that she made it through the night. Without the American Heart Association’s research and funding of the drugs that saved her mom in those critical hours she would not have made it. Today, Mary Jane is a great grandmother, remarks Hubble with a smile, “she is spunky and a delight to everyone who meets her.” Char realizes that thousands of people in Arizona and across the country have similar stories and they have the American Heart Association to thank. The committee’s dedication to its mission will be on full display on November 18th for the Valley’s most glamorous social gathering. It is “the only Ball in town that does not ask for money during the evening,” Hubble says. “It is strictly to thank the donors and a celebration of our efforts.” Details about the Ball are a closely guarded secret, but one we are told will be a colorful night to remember, shining brightly as a reflection of the lives touched by generosity of community and service to others. MISSION Assistance In Healthcare, Inc. (AIH) is a not-forprofit volunteer organization which assists cancer patients currently being treated in the Valley of the Sun with the non-medical expenses when the cost of prolonged medical care creates financial hardship.

WHAT WE DO Assistance In Healthcare provides money for emergency non-medical expenses such as rent, utilities, care payments and various other needs. AIH helps to keep patients focused on fighting cancer thus, alleviating financial worries and other stresses cancer can cause. The organization exists only to provide this support and make a difference in patients’ lives. The organization’s board members are volunteers who donate their time for board meetings and committee meetings required to plan and produce fundraising activities.

Q & A with a Local Philanthropist HOW HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A CHILD IN SOUTH KOREA AFFECTED YOUR PHILANTHROPIC DECISIONS? “I cannot deny that my early years affected the way I view the world. That experience has made me so passionate about helping others. Philanthropy is not an action, it’s more of a lifestyle. It has to be in your heart; a part of you, like a second nature.” WHAT NON-PROFITS ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT? “I wish I could show my support to all of them! In 2015, I participated in The National Kidney Foundation’s Dancing with the Stars” event. After many grueling dance lessons, painful blisters and guidance from my talented dance professional, I took home first place! I was proud of that, but even more pleased that I was able to raise $80,000 for the cause. And of course, I am passionate about Teen Lifel ine, which serves to prevent teen suicide.” WHAT ROLE DO YOU PLAY WITH TEEN LIFELINE? “I have chaired and co-chaired Teen Lifeline’s “Connections of Hope” annual event for 4 years now. We want to raise the awareness and prevention of teen suicide. With my connections in the Valley, both personal and through my business, I am happy to say that we have doubled the donations. This year, I am cochairing with Irene Clary of Catclar Investments, for the annual gala on October 6 at The Omni Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Montelucia.” WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST REWARD WORKING WITH TEEN LIFELINE? “Knowing that our dollars are supporting the peer counseling hotline and making sure that vulnerable teens have a place to call and text in a time of need is incredible. I have lost people I know to

suicide and if I can help support an organization that is helping teens make connections then I know I am doing something worthwhile and I am making a difference. I know that my efforts could ultimately help Teen Lifeline save even more lives!” BIGGEST CHALLENGE? “I think one of the biggest challenges I have is dealing with stigma. When I talk about Teen Lifeline and their life saving work, some people are uncomfortable with the topic of suicide. I have learned over the years working with Teen Lifeline that prevention has to start with a conversation. So I know that we have to talk about suicide so we can prevent it. While I do sometimes have to talk about the problem, what I love is talking about the connection of hope that is made daily between the teens that volunteer and the teens that call the hotline.” HOW ARE YOU INSTILLING THE ART OF GIVING IN YOUR CHILDREN? “I want philanthropy to be a thread that is woven into their daily lives, and I wish to do that through my children being witness to my desire to make our community a better place. I want to teach through example that it is very satisfying to support those less fortunate. Thomas (13) and Julie (11) have been a huge part of our family’s passion for “Adopt a Family” at the Weldon House, shopping for and distributing clothes and necessities for “our family.” We have made it a point to stay in touch with all of the families we have helped. We, as a family, have also gathered turkeys and donations for St Vincent de Paul at Thanksgiving. In addition, I have made it a point to introduced them to serving meals at local soup kitchens and homeless shelters in order to teach them the importance of humility and compassion. I'll also encourage my children to be Teen Mentors at Teen Lifeline when they reach the age of 16.” AZcharityregister.com | 37

We do this by rescuing excess perishable food that would otherwise be thrown away, and delivering it the same day to partner organizations that share our values of providing hope and sustenance to low income and indigent men, women, and children. MISSION STATEMENT Arizonans for Children Inc. exists to facilitate opportunities and provide effective solutions to alleviate hardships and improve the fragile lives of the abused, abandoned, and neglected children in foster care. HOW WE AFFECT THE COMMUNITY Arizonans for Children has 2 visitation centers that offer a fun, safe environment for kids in foster care to have visits with their parents in a supervised environment. Our centers have toys, games, educational activities, children’s movies, pool tables, ping pong, shaded playgrounds and much, much more. We also have a Tutor/Mentor program that matches school age children in foster care with volunteer mentors from the community. Mentors commit to 8 hours a month for 1 year to the child they choose. The results of a child in foster care having a mentor are tremendous; we see improvement in grades, attendance, and behavior but most importantly self esteem and self worth.

OUR MISSION The Colten Cowell Foundation creates unforgettable experiences for families impacted by significant life challenges. Enjoying a night of respite and fun, we create cherished memories, instill a spirit of giving and bring hope for the future. WHAT WE DO Having served so many and created countless laughter-filled memories, we stand on the precipice of what may be the most jaw dropping final act in the history of Arizona philanthropy. Our rented 5,000 square feet has served us well, but now we need to give the Cave a home that will be so magnificent, it will be known across the country and around the globe as the World’s Largest Monument to Compassion. All shall know it was Phoenix’s giving heart that made the dream of young souls of all ages everywhere come to life. Imagination and reality will collide and the art of giving will be made joyful as never before. We are off to a great start. Five acres of land (in an secret, undisclosed location) have been purchased. The pro bono work provided by architectural firm Candelaria Design Associates is mere months away from final City of Phoenix approval. Their 35,000 square foot masterpieces’ facade will be brick for brick like one featured on 1966 TV. Also on board, LGE Design Build stands ready to serve as general contractor, orchestrating a symphony of tradesman who shall build a vessel worthy of the imagination of Disney and the heart of Mother Theresa. Many others have stepped forward to help within their specialty, but more are needed to provide both skill and capital. Perhaps never again will those inclined have a chance to be a part of something so important, unique and inspiring.

HOW WE AFFECT THE COMMUNITY Not only does the Colten Cowell Foundation provide a night of respite and fun to families who desperately need it, but we also give back to numerous local charities. Since we started, the Colten Cowell Foundation has given more than $950,000 to 150 different charities in the community. Erika Cowell, Co-Founder, Executive Director and a mother of six is one of our Superheroes who provided speech therapy to children with special needs for years. Her son Colten passed away when he was 3yrs Old of leukemia and was her inspiration to bring the Cowell Foundation to life. A Connection of Hope Behind Every School ID Teen Lifeline and the Arizona School ID Initiative by Michael Clark

or more than 30 years, Teen Lifeline has been on the front lines of suicide prevention. By providing safe, confidential, and crucial crisis services where teens help teens make healthy decisions, together. Teen Lifeline is an organization that empowers teens and creates a Connection of Hope – a Peer Counseling Hotline where Arizona’s youth can reach out and be heard, without judgement. Imagine a world where nearly 1 in 5 teens have seriously considered suicide , this is today’s reality for Arizona youth. Peer pressure, bullying, substance abuse, physical abuse, and mental health issues are serious influences. Often, teens who are dealing with these issues are hesitant to talk to their parents, someone at school, or even their friends. Teen Lifeline understands that teens often prefer to talk about their problems with other teens, this is what makes the hotline both unique and incredibly successful.

But the teen in crisis must first make that call – a step that requires both the desire to share their problems, and the awareness of who to call. Over the past year, Teen Lifeline has expanded their Arizona School ID Initiative program in an effort to tell students where they can turn. The compelling message, printed on the backside of school ID badges, reads:

of four months.” The hotline is always supervised by a Master’s level Clinician and is accredited by the American Association of Suicidology, meeting the national best practice standards of care when providing services for persons in crisis. “With the (AZ) School ID Initiative, we are reaching out to Arizona youth in a non-intrusive way. Their school ID is a unique and easily accessible way to connect with teens, and put our services at their fingertips,” said Michelle Moorhead, Executive Director for Teen Lifeline. “This program strengthens the work we already do to increase awareness and prevent teen suicide.”

The initiative is making an impact. Today there are nearly 100 schools participating, reaching more than 100,000 Arizona students. Just this summer, school districts in Tempe, Higley, and Florence announced they would be joining the program and adding the Teen Lifeline message to their ID cards for the 2017-18 school year. Increasing Awareness = Increasing Connection = Reducing Risk Awareness is critical to helping Teen Lifeline achieve its mission, but the next step is providing the services themselves. Last year, the organization’s Peer Counselors provided a “connection of hope” to more than 19,000 troubled youth across the state. That number is expected to increase over the next year as the ID Initiative is implemented by more districts and schools. “As our calls increase, so does the need for teen volunteers,” said Nikki Kontz, Clinical Director. “Before a teen can take a call they must complete a 72-hour Life Skills Training and commit to volunteering for a minimum

UPCOMING EVENTS Individual Income Tax Credit Donations accepted now through April 15, 2018. Our award of Student Tuition Scholarships for 2018-19 begins in February 2018. MISSION STATEMENT Provide quality education opportunities to children from low-income families with special needs. School Tuition Organizations (STOs) are 501c(3) non-profit organizations that accept donations and award private school tuition scholarships to K-12 students. Alumnus STO has a very specific focus compared to all other STOs. First, we award tuition scholarships only to students with severe special needs from low-income households. Second, we guarantee at least three years of funding to every student we support. This provides stability and allows parents to plan for their child’s long-term needs. HOW WE AFFECT THE COMMUNITY In many cases, without a scholarship from Alumnus STO, these families would be forced to send their children to schools where they may not receive the education support they need to reach their full potential. Our scholarships allow children with severe needs and limited economic means to pursue their educational dreams and opportunities just like every other child.

HOW TO HELP AND GET INVOLVED Financial support is critical to our mission, as it allows us to provide three-year scholarships to K-12 students. Each Arizona taxpayer can donate up to $1,089 ($2,177 for married couples) each year and the amount allowed by corporations (C-Corp, Insurance Companies, S-Corps and some LLCs) is virtually unlimited. And in addition to helping out a student in need, your donation can be counted as a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on your or your company’s Arizona income tax return! Why is this important? By fostering the idea of giving from a young age, children can learn the values and joy in helping, sharing and giving to those who have less than them. Instilling the core ideals of philanthropy in our children’s lives can also help them develop a sense of purpose and self. The key is to educate and give them something to emulate.

Giving comes in multiple forms People tend to automatically think of financial giving, but that’s just the beginning—there are many ways to be a philanthropist. Giving personal time or volunteering, engaging in advocacy, or giving material goods are also ways philanthropists can make a positive impact. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Volunteering in the United States 2015 survey, 26.6 percent of teenagers (ages 16-19) spent time volunteering. Philanthropy is so popular among Generation Z, this generation has even earned the nickname “philanthroteens.”

The more we do it, the easier it comes As with anything, frequency helps establish habits. Being mindful of tying in philanthropic lessons in everyday life will help children understand there are more than enough opportunities to help— it’s just a matter of recognizing them. A few suggestions: • Share family values and any time devoted to a charitable organization. By making this part of normal conversation, it becomes natural for children to talk openly about giving habits. • Use allowances as a tool for teaching both money management and charitable giving. • Promote everyday acts of kindness, particularly for those less fortunate. • Ask children what areas of concern are important to them and actively support. Raising a philanthropist takes time and is a conscious commitment. Giving children the example and tools they need to create and live philanthropic values can empower them in creating an empathetic society that continues to make the world a better place.

They require that we work with a vast array of partners and use a much larger toolbox to accomplish conservation on a broad scale. The work we do locally helps inform our work regionally and abroad, and the work we do around the globe offers insights and support for our work in Arizona. Over our 50 years in Arizona, The Nature Conservancy has protected more than 1.5 million acres of Arizona lands important to wildlife and people. We’ve harnessed science and partnerships to keep our rivers flowing and our forests and grasslands healthy. As we look forward to our next 50 years, we’ll continue the strategies that work; innovative, nature-based solutions and collaborations with communities and partners, including those in urban landscapes. The world we depend on, now more than ever, depends on us.

HOW WE AFFECT THE COMMUNITY Since our inception in 1994, HALO has found homes for more than 60,000 homeless cats and dogs, and we rescue thousands more each year. HALO saved the lives of 8,154 shelter pets in 2016 through adoption and transport programs. Every HALO pet is vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before finding their forever home. HALO provides temporary shelter to abandoned dogs and cats until they can be adopted into a permanent home.
