HONG KONG’S ESSENTIAL 香港最潮 HAIRDRESSING MAGAZINE 髮型雜誌 A greener approach to salon business As 2015 draws to an end, and we start to look forward to 2016, what can we do to keep up with the latest trends happening in our industry? Widespread awareness of sustainability, coupled with advances in research, will lead to a greener approach to a salon’s business: Salons need to become carbon neutral and water wastage must be kept to a minimum level. Colour services continue to be the No. 1 revenue driver for most hair salons today, even more than hair cutting services and retail services. For this reason hair salons should invest in the best colouring products and professional staff to fulfil this demand. Hair colour will continue to meet environmentally conscious demands. Styling products will be based on resins, paraben-free and biodegradable. Other aspects such as customer service have to play an incredibly important role: Increasingly in-depth understanding of science will improve care and treatment of the scalp, hair and skin. Hairdressers need to adopt a scientific approach that enables them to analyse the individual’s specific needs. Clients still demand healthier and safer products for their hair, and since customers are a lot more informed than they were years ago, you should be sure that you’re offering authentic products and services. 

 Although it is crucial for a hair salon to provide additional services in order to remain competitive in their respective markets: Not being able to keep up with the latest industry trends and client demands could prompt a salon to experience a loss of customers to rivals. Lead by example Earning respect from your staff is no easy task: Having the title of Boss or Manager does not automatically earn you this. Arriving first in the Salon every morning and greeting your team with a happy “Good morning” when they come is a good start. Being willing to help out with all the salon duties and becoming the hardest working person in the Salon are good ways to earn their admiration. Your staff want leadership: they want to believe you know more than they do and that you will always be there in times of trouble or doubt. They need somebody they can easily talk to and feel they can trust you to have their

interests in mind. Leaders need skills in working with others on one-to-one and group basis, and a range of tools in their armoury to deal with a wide range of situations. Group meetings This is not the time to embarrass individuals or complain about performance. Group meetings are opportunities where you can clearly: set out company policies, explain or introduce new ideas, products and marketing plans. It is a time to motivate the team, lead them in the right direction, compliment the good work they do and build good and positive team spirit. A good manager must rise above any personal feelings they may harbour and remain objective and confident in all they say.

One on one meeting Every manager needs to schedule a time when they can chat to each individual team member. This must be done regularly, privately and in confidence: At least once every eight weeks. It offers the chance to talk honestly about the individual’s performance: It is a time when you can discuss and correct behaviour you are not happy with, and compliment the good work they do. Ask them what their aspirations are and plan their career path. They need to have confidence that their opinions and thoughts will be heard and taken into consideration. Any manager displaying destructive or negative attitudes to a staff member without offering positive solutions and encouragement will leave the individual wondering why they should work for you.

BEAUTY INNOVATOR AWARD 2015 the journey to total beauty SHISEIDO PROFESSIONAL held the Hong Kong’s Selected Creations Exhibition to honor the creativity and techniques of their up-and-coming hairstylists. The 3-day exhibition featured the photos of Beauty Innovator Award 2015’s top 10 creations and Grand Prix Winners of the past two years. A creations catwalk was held after which the final 5 were announced. The exhibition was the highlight of SHISEIDO PROFESSIONAL BEAUTY INNOVATOR’s annual public event, named “the journey to total beauty” this year. With different exhibition zones, a workshop, Beauty Innovator Award catwalk and presentation ceremony, attendants gained a better understanding of the brand’s centurial wisdom in hair and scalp care, while appreciating the essence of total beauty and the efficacy of different products, and experience and interact with the latest technology ‘PRIMIENCE Hair Color Simulator’.

Framesi recently unveiled its brand new 2015/2016 Fall Winter Collections at a well-attended Hair show, titled “vintage today” and “HANDMADE 2.0”. Robert Lo of ROB’s Gallery, ED Cheng and Sean Cheng from Framesi HK were invited to guest star. The newly launched Italian paraben free, fragranced styling line: BY - BE YOU, was introduced and used on all the models.

Adam demonstrated cutting techniques focusing on high precision cuts whilst promoting the “M” fringe shape and 60° cutting angles. Henshaw used multi-shaded colours and accessories during his presentation. With over 28 years in the industry, Adam Noble has been chosen as one of Australia’s top 10 hairdressers for more than 10 years. 達人會三周年會慶由四位達人髮藝會委員的表演掀起序 幕。髮型匯演以「強烈對比」為題,帶動場內熱烈氣氛。 Adam Noble聯同染髮師Leslie Henshaw即場示範名為「童 話」和「叛逆」的造型系列。 Adam示範了高度精準的剪髮技術,並重點教授「M」形 瀏海和60度角的剪髮技巧。Henshaw則採用多重色調的顏 色和獨特的髮飾來演繹他的作品。

BabylissPro and the YN Club recently held an exclusive gala dinner for the 2015 BabylissPro Hair Styling Competition Hong Kong District (Semi Final) Award Ceremony. A highlight of the opening was the voting for an additional award: “My Favourite Hair Style Award” by the invited guests interactively. Nearly 300 guests enjoyed watching live performances by the five finalists.
