USEFUL INFO
BRUNY ISLAND in MAY
Bruny Island in May will present us with an ever changing landscape to photograph. It’s going to be an awesome few days and we will be busy most of the time. In order for everyone to get the most out of our time together there are a couple of things that you can do to help.
Timing is always the most critical, sunrise and sunset doesn’t wait for anyone and so neither can we. We will be planning our excursions so that we have you in a great location, set up and ready to go in plenty of time to catch all the changes of light, so we ask that you are on time, ready to go at the time we tell you. Of course, if for any reason, you decide that a sleep-in is more important than another sunrise, you are most welcome to stay snuggled in your doona, but I reckon you will be sorry you did when you see the shots that we come back with! As well as going out to take pictures in some of the most photogenic locations in the country, we will be showing you how we go about working your images. All 4 of us use Mac computers, however Ian and Bruce seem to know their way around a PC and will be able to help. Most of our post production work is done on Capture One and Photoshop, so if you don’t have it on your computer you can download a free 30 day trial.
ACCOMMODATION You will need to organise your own accommodation for this workshop, however, we would recommend that you stay at Explorer Cottages as we will be basing the workshop from here. They will also be able to help team you up with one of the other delegates to share accommodation if you would like. http://www.brunyisland.com/accommodation/explorers-cottages/ If you decide otherwise, there are a wide variety of different accommodation options, in various price ranges, on Bruny Island. You will be able to find something that suits your needs and budget.
TRANSFERS
We will pick you up from Hobart on Sunday afternoon, and will drop you back to Hobart on Thursday morning. If you want to spend longer on Bruny, all you have to do is organise your own travel and accommodation, and let us know so that we are not waiting for you when you have already left in your own car.
USEFUL LINKS BRUNY ISLAND FERRY Access to Bruny Island is by vehicle ferry. The Bruny Island Ferry, The Mirambeena, departs from Kettering, 40 minutes drive south of Hobart. OTHER ACTIVITIES Bruny is a great island for touring - drive north to the sheltered beaches of Dennes Point and Killora; head south to Adventure Bay, the Cape Bruny Lighthouse and Cloudy Bay, where there is a great surf break. It’s a perfect island for walking - stroll to Penguin Island from Adventure Bay and climb along the crest of the sea crags on Fluted Cape; take the loop track around the Labillardiere Peninsula and picnic along the way; take a beach walk on one of the island’s many stretches of untracked sand. But please don’t try and see all of Bruny in a day or two - you’d be surprised how many people don’t realise that Bruny Island is nearly 100 kilometres long! From the tip of Dennes Point in the north to Cape Bruny Lighthouse in the south, the landscapes change dramatically - sheltered sandy beaches and farmlands in the north, tall forests, open bays and wild coastlines in the south. That’s one good reason to stay a few days - you need time to climb to the top of the sand hummock and look out across the Neck; to gaze out at the Southern Ocean from Cape Bruny; to walk on the wide and wild Cloudy Bay Beach; to see Mt Wellington and the Sleeping Beauty across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel from Dennes Point; to observe seabirds in the shallows of Daniels Bay at Lunawanna; and to take one of the world’s best eco-cruises from Adventure Bay.
